Dr. Walter Salubro How to tell if its healed? I have small disc bulges and run every day. A mile a day to get strong legs and core. What is your take on a strong core fo a strong back and to heal or help bulging disc? My upper back always cracks when I do crunches too. Put feet under sofa to hold me and cross arms and lift touching left elbow to right knee and right knee to left elbow
I have disc protrusion at all levels and iam only 22 years old and am an it profession who works a lot of time sitting..I have sever pain now ,and iam going to do ayurvedic treatment ..you have any suggestion ??
My MRI report says- 1. Lumbarspondylosis. 2. Diffuse disc bulge at L4-L5 level 3. Posterocentral disc protrusion with posterior annular tear at L5-S1 level. One Dr told me that i have fucked up my back doing all the crazy stuff at the gym and another told me that it's nothing to worry about, MRI is an intensive test and it may find minute details/findings from ur body that has nothing to do with ur pain. So he basically said, no one can expect to have perfect lumbar disc as all our lives we put so much pressure on our spine. But guys, i have been feeling pain only in my lower back region, it doesn't go to my hips, not even to my legs. I can run for 5kms and I don't feel anything. But when it comes to sitting, or doing things while sitting, it bothers me a lot. I mean this is a pain that don't stop me from doing anything, i can still lift weights but i just don't feel comfortable enough. I mean that mindset of feeling 100% fine is not there with me anymore. I feel tight, a strange kind of stiffness, hell i can't even express in words. The focal point is something near sacrum/tailbone area. Can someone help or even relate?
I have 2 herniated disk in the same area L4-L5 and L3-L3 I think. If you type on google if you can lift weights with an herniated disk it says it is reccomended to do so... You're saying the opposite... I've also heard from other people and they all say opposite things.... I'm so confused...
Hi Sir, I am not sure if you will reply to this question or not but I would really be grateful if you could: 1. I have a herniated disc L5-s1. I am taking treatment from one of the best spine doctors in our city and I have been going to him for almost 9 months now. 2. For this entire time he has only prescribed 4 exercises and has asked me to do them twice a day with 10 reps each. - Bridging exercise - In the second exercise I lay down on the floor on my back and pull both of my legs together and then rotate them once on the right side and then hold them there for 10-15 secs. - In the third exercise I lay down on my back and I put both my hands under my lower back and hip joining section then pull my tummy inside and push the lower back towards the floor. - Fourth one is similar to the third one but the only difference is I don’t put my hands underneath and I have to lift one leg at an 180 degree angle and push the lower back towards the floor. Please let me know if these exercises are good or do I have to add something new to it, I have also recently joined the gym after taking the approval from my doctor so can you please suggest what are some of the exercises that I must avoid. Looking forward for your response. Thanks Parakram
Just read your experience. How are your feeling now? Has there been any recurrence? What were the symptoms earlier and how are they now? Thanks in advance. I have been facing the similar issue, though the Latin had subsided but I am afraid to go to the gym.
I do the Bird Plank Cobra Superman N it help me a lot I walk for 40 minutes after my workout n it been helping a lot I want to run or jog but don’t know if I can but I feel great
Thank you for the content. At 1:59 you advised not to do leg presses while lying on one's back. Does this also apply to the seated leg press? If so, could you recommend any other safe quadriceps exercise? Thank you!
Dr.Salubro , i have problem with nerves that come out from S1 and under. I'm 26 y old male. Have burning in adductors(inner thigs) , pain in the right buttock when walking and 80% loss of sensation and skin changes in the S2-3-4 area. I have 8 xrays on the spine. In my country there are no chiropracters and i bellieve that only chiropracter can help me.I also have uneven pelvis, which was corectet 2 months ago and pain is 70% lower and burning almost gone, but the other promlems still remain. How can i contact you for help? Im this situation for 15 months and its unberable
I have bulging/ degenerative discs in my neck. I’ve taking steroid shots in the area twice in the past and it’s gotten me by. Can I still do weights if I use strict form and low amounts? Or is it safer for someone like me to avoid weight training altogether. Thank you for any advice you can provide
Can u do a full body workout or squats with a C5 C6 disc bulge? I used to roller skate all the time and was very active! Now if I even do squats or really any exercise I'm down for days! Dishes hurts, mopping! So is there any safe exercise I can do to gain muscle and tone?
It all depends on your level of pain and tolerance. Getting an exercise program for a health professional that examined you would tell you which ones you should do and which ones you should avoid.
I have cervical disc problem, can i lift heavy weight in order to build muscles? I don't have that yet, i want to stay healthy and want my muscles to help my body in old age
Light weight may be doable, if you can tolerate it (like 5lbs, 10 lbs). Also, lateral shoulder raises help activate the multifidus muscle, which is a key stabilizer of the lower back and often dormant with disc injuries.
Hello sir, I was recently diagnosd with starting of cervical spondlysis,my current age is 32 and i have been working out in the gym from a decade But my sitting postures were very poor and thus the begining, now since gym is my temple ,can i still lift weights? My doctor has suggested me neck strengthening exercises, can i lift weights also? And still have a normal life if i build a stronger nexk and correct my posture?
I have had many patients in your age group with similar condition that have done well with corrective chiropractic care and have continued to live a normal life.
Is it possible to fully get healed from disc bulge ?? I am not talking about the pain is gone ! I am talking about my spinal cord goes back to it’s normal shape ?!
Most therapies about disk bulge/ herniation seem to be generic and apply to a bulge in the rear area of your spine. If you look at a section of a L4/ L5 disk from the top, bulge / herniation can happen at 12 o’clock, 6 o’clock, 3- 9 o’clock or at any intermediate point... I’m I wrong? therapy cannot be the same for all situations... some therapies which are good for one, can be damaging for other. Can you comment please?
I healed up my sciatica and was good for 2 months. I started lifting weights about 2 weeks ago, nothing crazy as I am a beginner and noticed maybe 5% more pain, only about 1 hour after the workout is finished, never during. I worry that it will come back and prevent me from getting exercise.
Chin ups should generally be okay because they don't load the spine. Adding weights will cause some distraction and may be okay. However, you should always check with your doctor before doing any exercises just to be sure they are okay for you.
Dr. I am having L3, L4, L5, disc bulge after your vedio excersise now iam free from pain thank you. My doubt is shall i ride bicycle or not. Please reply sir.
Hi. I am glad you’re doing better. If you can tolerate sitting position in a chair, you may be able to tolerate bicycle riding. It’s hard to really know, without doing an assessment of your clinical condition. It would be wise to get clearance from your own primary doctor who has assessed your condition.
Hi Arul. This is what I do for my patients. Find a doctor or chiropractor in your city that does this type of work: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NraNnc4Dipc.html
Diffuse disc bulge indenting thecal sac causing no mass effect over nerve roots at L3-L4 and L5-S1 levels. Diffuse disc bulge with small central disc protrusion causing bilateral mild neural foramen narrowing indenting thecal sac abutting bilateral traversing nerve roots at L4-L5 level. Hi Sir , above is impressions is notified my MRI scan report, can you please advice me.
Yethu improvement iruka bro same problm disc bugle intending the thecal sac no sciatica but with worst back pain can't even sit for 30 mins iam 25 yrs old
Bro as per my knowledge go throughout doctors they will give uh injections tht help to reduce inflammation in ur nerve and make ur nerve strong by they way nerve get heal itself but takes long time my suggestion u intake (DXN GANOCELIUM(GL)(RG))it help u in improving nerve damage and if u really experiencing more pain means reduce eating gastric food because it increases pressure in nerve and due to ur disk problem that nerve get inflamated no take ur care and take care of ur spine 🙂
Thanks for the information doctor. Will orthopedic cushion help when I have to sit for a long while. Also is it okay to travel for two hours when there is a leg pain.
Hi preethy. The cushion may help when sitting, but might be better to put it behind your lower back and not under the buttocks. For 2 hour drive, I would recommend taking a break every 30 minutes, so you get out of the car and do some stretching and walking.
L4 L5 & S1 with nerve pain. At present I am under treatment of a spine surgeon who medicated about four & half months of PREGABALIN-75 , two capsules each day and phase wise some exercises of low back pain. I am about 60 years now. Feel relief at present, but I want it permanently cure. Please suggest. Thanks.
Hello, while there are some exercises that could be done with this condition, I can not answer specifically for you because i did not examine you. check with your primary doctor to see what types of exercses you are cleared to do.
I got a herniated disc around May of this year in the l5-s1 range approximately 2mm my question is will I be able to get my large muscular physique back I don't care if I can't do certain exercises my question is can I be able to achieve the way I looked before the disc herniation and feel good like no pain because the pain has gotten better than before but it's still there I've been going to therapy and they said it's better I'm doing machines now I just want hypertrophy ik I can't do heavyweight but like a regular 45lb plate? With good form idk I'm just tired this injury really depresses me if I can get back to 25 inch legs 20 inch biceps and 20 inch calves What do you think?is my goal possible BTW I'm 18
Hi Brayan. There may be some exercises that you may have to avoid, like dead lifts, press squats, shoulder squats. However, with proper guidance from your therapist/doctor, you may still be able to form, or at least maintain your form. Check with your therapist/doctor about what exercises you should be doing and should be avoiding. It's hard more me to give more details without a full exam and case review. Also, keep in mind that healing of disc injuries takes time. And you are young, so you have that going in your favour. Stay positive. The human body has an amazing potential for healing and recovery.
When you say to avoid exercises such as squats, do you mean forever like never again? Is it possible to fully heal these injuries? Or is it a permanent thing
I believe once you are healed with no pain and limitation, you would be able to do squats with no load, so only your body weight. Doing loaded squats may cause reinjury. A lot would depend on your workout and fitness goals.
Hello. Gym workouts that target strengthening moves of the neck and back can help with strengthenging the back and neck muscles. Be sure to get cleared by your primary health care pracitioner so you know exactly which exercises to do and which exercises to avoid.
Sir,I have been suffering from lower back pain since 4 months.got this as a gift of doing leg press in full range motion .Since then I stopped goin gym This MRI report of mine says that I got minimally bulged annulus at L4-L5 level😰.Sir I am very much worried.doctor says this is normal .but he refused to go gym. Sir,can I go gym in future??? Pls advise.shall I do push ups, bench press, biceps curl with this ???
What does it mean when the only thing that relieves my herniated disc pain is lifting weights? I don’t squat or deadlift but I do bridges with weight and other stuff
It would depend on how you are lifting the weights. Like you say, avoiding deadlift and squat is smart Because the increase intradiscal pressure and will aggravate an injured disc. But, Doing a bridge is safe and perhaps you’re able to tolerate it with some weights. A bridge is like a reverse plank, less disc pressure is being built up. And, just because you can do this, it may not mean another person can do it as well. Everyone is unique and different when it comes to their abilities and tolerance for exercise
Hi Kenneth. Elliptical machine is lower impact compared to treadmill. It might be tolerable but it's case dependent. It is best you get clearance from your primary doctor who as assessed you and knows your full clinical picture.
Hi. It depends on your current clinical condition. There might be some exercises you might have to avoid. It’s hard for me to give a specific answer without assessing your clinical condition and doing exam, and assessing any x-rays or MRI pictures. Check with your primary health doctor and see what you can or cannot do.
Hi doctor.I would like to thank you for your priceless informations. I have bulging disc at L4 L5 without detectable focal projection and no signs of disco-radicular conflict with discreet or secret hyposignal T2 degenerative. how long does it take to heal the disc if I applied the exercice you gave before. Because I quit the gym.
bulging L3 and L4, started swimming and practicing some excersies to correct the lower back curvature . been doing it for two months, and lost 15 pounds, now lower back pain is completely gone and sciatic pain is partially gone, it only hurt sometimes hurt by the right buttcheck , so I think is pyramidal syndrome Next doctor visit is in 4 months, but I think i'm ready to start some simple weight lifting
there are weight exercises which you can use machines not those traditional. i did that and i gained big muscles only my fault is i didn’t go to the doctor for an executive panel. i think i have high lactic acidosis coz i felt the symptoms of heart attack like symptoms, sudden cut of air, tremors, etc
Check with your doctor, chiropractor, or physio for a functional abilities evaluation and spinal evaluation and determine if you can back to weight lifting.
Hello Sir, I recently got disc protection at c5-c6 due to injury. After healing from it and let's say after 6 months when symptoms go away completely then after that can I start gym/fitness again? I was into advance calisthenics workout. I really wish to do stuffs like handstand etc again. Pls reply and advice. Thanks a lot.
Sir i have pain becuse of disce bulge i treatment last 5 years but these days i feel pain in my back and leg plz give me soulation i like u so much from pakistan
Hi Main. This is what I do for my patients. Find a doctor or chiropractor in your city that does this type of work: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NraNnc4Dipc.html
Dr disc bulge.. I can't walk a single step. can't sit even on my hip. What kind of exercise u prefare for me. . Cos Dr suggested for surgery of L5 si..
Hi. You might be able to. I don't know your full clinical picture to give you a specific answer for you. In most cases, activities like cycling should be tolerate once the bulging disc is healed. It's always best to get cleared by your primary doctor first.
Hi Diana. Thanks for your question. It’s difficult for me to determine the type of exercise that you can do in the gym without doing an assessment of your current clinical condition. Some things I would consider is your overall flexibility, range of motion, core strength, spinal function, any level of pain and inflammation. The fact that four years ago is when the surgery was done, should have given enough time for post surgical healing. I would be cautious with any bending and lifting type exercises, any exercises that load the lower back/lumbar spine (such as deadlifts, squats, weighted squats, pressed squats, shoulder presses, running). And it’s always wise to get clearance from your primary healthcare provider, or the Doctor who did your surgery.
I had a slipped disc about a year ago Now when i left a weight after few minutes my left leg will hurt not much a little And i bent my back to backward it sound a knock and it feel good and the pain automatically stops What should i do
I have a question, I had a bulging disc in my lower back. I want to start working out and getting lean and fit but I am afraid of what exercises I can do or not do. Do you have any recommendations of what should I do? I wanted to weight lift cause my goal is to gain muscle but with a bulging disc I'm afraid I am maybe not able to so I wanted to know of alternatives that'll give m the results I want
Hi Bene Sapiat! This is a good question. I imagine horse riding causes up and down impact motions on the lower back. This may aggravate a disc injury. I suppose it would depend on your clinical picture/status. If you have seen a doctor for this and have exam findings and imaging like MRI results, check with your doctor specifically about your situation.
Hey. I agree. This was in my novice days on RU-vid. I realize its very annoying in the background. I stopped doing it. This video still got over 66k views; interesting.
Hi Hasan. Bench press will cause increase intraabdominal pressure and may aggravate the lower back post-surgery. It is best you get clearance from your doctor or surgeon.
Hi. Jogging is not the best exercise for disc bulge due to impact from ground reactive forces during jogging. May trigger more damage to the injured disc. It would depend on the level of disc damage, inflammation, spinal function/mobility, overall clinical condition, however.
