I wanted to challenge myself to get a limit of doves with only one box of shells. This is the ultimate dove hunting challenge because doves are challenging to hit. Can I limit with one box of shells?

Did a limit with 5 shots before. That was just a great combination of location and weather. Where I'm located at now, be really lucky to see 4-5 dove a day.

In 30 years of dove hunting my dad never once shot a whole box to get his limit of dove. He was more selective than most people..but he was absolutely deadly with a shotgun on dove and quail! And he has witnesses to prove it! He was from the old school..shells cost money..so you didn't waste them!

Aw man my season opens here in a few days can’t wait unfortunately I didn’t spend enough time with my lab to make her a good retriever so she’s just a goofy girl with a big heart and get to take lots of naps 😂

I enjoy your hunting videos and watching Cora work. I no longer hunt over dogs, I'm 76 y/o. But, have trained Goldens decades ago for dove and ducks. One thing I notice is Cora is not marking her birds. She is not seeing them fall. This increases her anxiety to please. I would recommend working on only short retrieves with bumpers to regain confidence. Before, the retrieves have her heel or place. Take your thumb and fore finger of your left , place them at the lip & gum line at the back of her muzzle, apply gentle pressure, when she opens her mouth place the bumper just infant of your thumb and fingers and command hold. This force fetching will teach her to hold the bird softly. The other thing you can do is don't let her make all the retrieves. This reduces the urge to break. For blind retrieves, I used tho work my dog with a sented or wing from a dove / duck at night. This forces her to use her nose. Again, start short and progress distance as she improves. A couple of years ago there was a debate on a California hunting forum about using #6 Steel over using #7 steel for Dove hunting. I decided to count steel #7's for a 15 dove limit. I got my 15 bird limit with 28 shells. I found that #7 steel worked fine for me. The next year, I bought some steel #6's and tried some with the #7's. Both shell worked fine, the #6's did work for a few very long crossing shots. I have not felt handicapped using steel #7's for Doves, limiting my shots to about 30 yards.

I used steel 7s on my land since i dont want pounds of lead being broadcast out everytime i hunt it. I did notice more cripples, id like to try 6s. We have strong wind here in WY

Last season I shot 2 doves with one shot, I amazed myself as well as my friends. Gotta try this one box for a limit though

Lowkey makes me sad for no sunflower field this year, I understand the pain. Definitely takes me more than a box! Looking forward to more dove content come September, hopefully! Good luck brother!

My Dad got invited to a dove hunt in Alabama ,if I remember right the limit was 11. The guy we were hunting with had 4 boxes. Dad got his limit with 17 shots, the good old boy with 4 boxes of shells ran out of shells. Dad gave him his remaining shells and the guy never got his limit. When we met up with the rest of the group , the guy sais no damn wonder we lost the war , them damn yankees can shoot! It was 1965 .

Ive heard of shell restrictions for duck hunters in some areas, but never for doves! Thats nuts!

@@OutdoorLimits California. Steel is AWFUL. I have switched to #5 for dove because of it. 6's and 7.5's just aren't doing it. Haven't yet seen where they only allow one box for dove. However, I don't hunt state land for dove.
