This week, I took drew one of your suggestions from a hat and turned it into a hyperrealistic cake! This cake was very difficult and there were a few times where I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to pull it off. Although it didn't come out perfect, I was able to overcome several challenges and learned a lot along the way 💚

I was reminded of Japanese raindrop cakes that use agar agar, they were really popular a few years ago and they're sometimes transparent

Way less substantial, it doesn’t get the same firm bounce that gelatine gets when you add a more powder to the mix. Adding more agar just makes it crumbly and cloudy. It’d be more likely to collapse under its own weight or the weight of the cake on top of it. They make a kind of crunchy candy with agar that’s been crumbled into pieces and let to dry, but it looks quite powdery on the surface.

Agar agar is a great idea. But I thought maybe it's too jiggly? But idk maybe agar agar and a little bit of the gelatin!

I think gelatin that comes in sheets is supposed to be more clear. And they sell flavorings that don’t distort the color too much. I also wonder if another material like agar might turn out well. But this is one of the most impressive things I’ve seen.

Agreed, agar is used to make water cakes in Japan... they are literally crystal clear like water ! Can be flimsier sure but still more accurate than the yellow good she used.

I really appreciated your inclusion of the entire process. It’s nice to see the trial and error of someone as talented as you! Art is truly a process!! I’d love to see you do a cake or a tattoo machine or even just the sterling sheet with the tattoo supplies (think tattoo gun, ink cups, green soap, etc)

I think the coolest cake to see you make would be a cake of your cake sculpting tools, chuck of unused modeling chocolate, food coloring, etc. Making it look like your in the middle of sculpting a cake.

Agar set crystal clear and can be as firm as gelatin. 👍 But tbh, I think it actually looks better with the tint, almost like a flavored water.

Next time you do a clear cake like this, you should try using agar-agar and jelly powder, using a similar technique to Japanese raindrop cakes!!! They're super clear and super cute!!!

Hey, love your work. About the gelatin, I would suggest agar. It’s usually firmer than gelatin and many people use it to make clear desserts. Reverse spherification is also something fairly easy you could do to make droplets or even something like a runny yolk out of anything you like. I think molecular gastronomy in general has a lot of potential on making hyper-realistic cakes

I think the super clear gelatin just has less bubbles. I believe agar agar has less color but I’m not sure how different it is from gelatin texture wise.

I like the hyper realistic cakes best if I can also believe that they are delicious. If it's a large percentage of gelatin, molding chocolate or hardened white chocolate to cake it doesn't seem like it would function as a cake anymore. This is very clever, but it's more like a unconventional material challenge, not so much a delicious cake disguised as a water bottle. That's why I loved the peach you recently made! That looked amaaaaazing and seemed like a wonderful little cake as well. :)

for the gelatin not being clear, you could’ve completely dyed it and played it off as flavored water and made an edible flavor packet to really seal the deal. regardless, this cake was super impressive! great work!

Awesome job!!! I had to check my water bottle today......just to be sure......(sadly, it was not edible.) Do you think you could make a coconut cake, maybe even a half-a coconut cake? I think it would be really cool to see all the insides, fuzzy hairs, and everything else, and I know you could do it!! In movies, they often use sugar to make glass bottles that are meant to be broken. You could use that for the actual bottle with a gelatin filling.

I love your cakes, but a lot of the newer ones feel more like food sculptures than actual cakes with all small cakes made with molds and gelatin. Nothing wrong with awesome hyperrealistic food sculptures, but I sometimes miss the cakes that are large and sculpted. Would love to see you scale up some normal objects into jumbo versions of them for hyperrealistic cakes.

Recently I go to the beach and saw amazing rasp coral reefs, i like specially the yellow one. I think it would be incredible to see, you can put the cake at the log of the coral. Pease it would be unbelievebable. 😅❤
