Can I make an Open World RPG in Unreal Engine solo ? I guess we will find out. #gaming #unrealengine #unreal #rpg #openworld #solodev #indiegame #game #skyrim #elderscrolls #worldbuilding #fantasy #worldbuilding
Don't listen to the people who says "You cant do an open world as a solo dev". Echoes of Argora has been in the making for 8 months and I'm the sole developer on the project. Everything is possible if you set your mind to it. This is what differs "Us" from "Them", we can actually achieve this! Best of luck to you my fellow solo dev!
im at 90000 hours myself i have thought of giving up so many times and i have at least 90 k more to go if not 100s but i will never stop im way to far now . dont let anyone tell you tthat you cant do something . anything is possible if your not a puzzsssyyyy!
To answer - you can't, this question has been asked hundreds of times by solo devs. Creating a big world does not make a game good. I would advise you to focus on "RPG" rather than "Open World". Anyway, have fun, game dev is a cool hobby
OFC the answer is more complicated. Yes, focusing o RPG,gameplay loop instead fixating on huge open world (matter of scale of project) is ofc good advice. And yes, hundreds of solo devs make YT of kind "what I would do different if I could start again" almost alway points out to another issue--- next to the scope of the game IS attitude to "asset flopping", kind of thinking "I want to do anything by myself" as Author has said in this video. YEP, you wanna make your "own" game @ArdentDev That's totally understandable it's the fuel, biggest motivation for you. BUT I think you should at least to make some research in this topic- how other solo devs talk about their "mistakes". You pointed it yourseklf- TIME and amount of dedication, power you can give from yourself is limited. So WISE using of some premade assents, solutions, "hiring" other specialists (in terms of graphics, music, effects, animations) = by buying some wisely choosen, probably altered later by yourself premade assets, products my benefit a lot, save you a lot of time, etc. OFC I wish you best( thinking myself about starting own project) and I think using others help (by buying some stuff for your project) is something almost UNAVOIDABLE and probably best decision you can, almost HAVE to make, sooner or later. Otherwise you are seriously risking burning out after few months, 1-2 yeras of developement. OFC VersionControl, backuping you project consistantly is another crucial topic.
I think the important part is that you create memorable and unique places that are distinct in your world. Gothic 1 & 2 are perfect examples that small open worlds work.
@ArsBeneVivendi That is super practical advice! Much appreciated! I am so worried about something happening to the project so I back up everything constantly !
Hello, dear friend... I am good at modeling and texture and I completely agree with what you said... I would really like to work together, but unfortunately my English is not good... I would be happy to work together one day (of course, the first The work is free and not for income) Good luck. Google Translate
