Can I play CS2 on *really* old GPUs? (HD 6670, HD 5770/HD 6770, HD 6850, GT 1030)

In this video, we'll take a closer look on how the old AMD Radeon video cards (Sapphire HD 6670, AMD HD 5770/HD 6770, Sapphire HD 6850) run Counter Strike 2, and compare them with a GDDR5 variant of the GT 1030.
As usual, we're pairing the cards with the i7 4770 equivalent Xeon (E3-1241 v3), and 32 GB DDR3 @1600MHz, in dual channel.

Yeah ... The listed minimum specs are a bit too vague. And mind you, all of these run GDDR5.

I have an i5 3330 cpu and an HD 6850 but the game doesn’t run nearly as well as by you. What do you think might be the problem?
@oldertechtoday
@oldertechtoday 8 месяцев назад
Not sure, honestly; CPU can be a thing as well, and mine starts to bottleneck at 160 FPS. Maybe the CPU not supporting AVX2?

hello. what driver do you used for HD cards? 5770 honestly@@oldertechtoday
@oldertechtoday
@oldertechtoday 6 месяцев назад
@@dontcare3926 I think it was Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta (see AMD's page at www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-hd/ati-radeon-hd-5000-series/ati-radeon-hd-5770 ). Definitely not Nimez, if this is the underlying question.

@@oldertechtoday Whats the problem with Nimez? I would like to know cus im using it, with XFX HD6850 DD, it doesn't run CS2 btw
@oldertechtoday
@oldertechtoday 3 месяца назад
@@Cyber.Paloma As much as I like that Nimez drivers did fix some rwndering bugs, I don't think they [Nimez drivers] are signed and very likely they are not white listed by Valve. Modified drivers can be considered as cheats, and are not always straight forward to install, so I avoid using them when testing video cards.

800x600? Hello?
@oldertechtoday
@oldertechtoday 7 месяцев назад
That should increase the FPS by quite a bit, to almost doubling the values from 720p. I did not test any 4:3 resolutions though - I have a 16:9 monitor, and below 720p the image quality takes a steep dive.

@@oldertechtoday competitive players doesnt care about quality, they care about fps

Thanks for the comment. As I mentioned in my previous reply, the FPS you'd get at 800x600 is about 1.7 to 1.9 times the values from 720p.

I would be more currious about a 5:4 aspect ratio such as 1280x1024 resolution as I have a old 19" monitor with a VGA input that uses that resolution and I plan on using that monitor for a PC I plan on building to flip at somepoint in the future. When it comes to a GPU with a VGA output so no adapter needed would perhaps be something like a low profile Radeon HD 7730 1GB DDR3 card to pair with a Q9400, FX-4100, i3-2100 or i5-2400 for CPU with 4GB (DDR3), 8GB (DDR2 or DDR3) or 12GB (DDR3) RAM. If I were to just get a DVI or HDMI to VGA adapter than a Radeon HD 7750 or Radeon HD 6850 would be a option also or later on in the future perhaps a GTX 750. Edit: a Low Profile GT 1030 DDR4 is another GPU option I could get for the monitor if I get a VGA cable adapter.

@@letto18 Avoid pairing a monitor with VGA input with a GTX 10 series or higher. Those cards no longer carry the analog output - the DVI connector that some carry is a DVI-D (digital only) version. The adapter from that to VGA is more expensive than the ones typically available.
