Ryan, I have watched loads (LOADS) of RU-vid running videos and this one, by a country mile, was one of my absolute favourites. You have made me chuckle repeatedly for the last half an hour. I’m running my first 100k on Saturday and this honestly was the best thing I could’ve watched to relax me and inspire me. I’m also doing the Thames path this September and I really hope we get to bump into each other. Well done on this amazing achievement and big props to Andre too! Oh my, what a GREAT video 😊😊

That's just flat out incredible, Ryan. The fortitude you need to get through that on a good day is already insane. To do it in that heat, with the set backs of the fall, the feeling queasy, the getting lost, and knowing you've missed the first target. That's something else. When you're deep in the hurt locker, those are all things you could easily use to convince yourself it's ok to quit. Seeing this through is amazing. Another brilliant video, too. With these amazing feats, and such well made content, I don't know how your channel hasn't blown up yet. It can only be a matter of time before that happens. Better get ready for the Soreen sponsorship!
@RyanCondon
@RyanCondon Год назад
Wow! Thanks Lee. I appreciate the support as always. I've been making walking then running videos since 2019, recently 'upped my game' and I'm starting to see more people (then just my kids) watching now which is humbling. The 100k was a tough run/hobble but I enjoyed every second and I'm already looking forward to next year... Having said that, running 100k in a heatwave and battling sunstroke seems easier than a podium finish in Cat D on Zwift atm. 😅 I've also got a nice little weight drop to add to my Zwift profile but knowing my luck I'll get "promoted" to Cat C now. Lol.
@lee-cycling

@@RyanCondonFunnily enough, as I was watching, I was thinking, "you must think Zwift races are for pansies now", so pretty funny you say that! You will crush the next 100k. And it's going to be excellent following your journey, mate. 👊

@paulsmith2764 Год назад
Massive congratulations mate on completing that! I walked the 100k, and your description throughout is exactly the same as mine to friends since then! The 30km-50km in all that heat with little shade and breeze was unbearable, and the sun really chewed me up and spat me out! Think I finished in the low 500’s but ecstatic to get over the line! I completed my first 100k last year with London to Brighton about 5 hours quicker than this, a more technically demanding course, which just shows how the heat was a killer! Massive respect for you! ❤

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your finish. Dont forget that 35% of the '100k continuous' participants pulled out. Fantastic achievement. I've never done London to Brighton but I know it's no walk in the park, crazy to think that the weather conditions made that much of a difference.

If you've built up to it and you have attempted other smaller Ultras first to work out your tactics then this one is a great one to attempt as your first 100k as its almost completely flat and not as 'teckie' as other ultras unless of course you trip on a tree root or forget spare batteries for your torch.

Ryan you're amazing well done mate, terrific effort. I'm about to do mynfirst ever 100k this Saturday 27th July. Brecon Way 100. All the things you've gone through in this video are concerns and questions ive had. Yes there are tons of videos about nutririon and get your pacing right but it means nothing without the experience and the reality you showcased. What youve done here is build a realistic case study and understanding of the physical toll, emotional impact and how you will be challenged and most likely fail the initial goals set out without the experience. Its about perseverance, not stopping, adapting the goal so that you've always got something in front of you. I dont know how to word it all properly but this is the best video ive watched for the importance of fuel, how much to fuel, reality of pacing when the conditions change, im not a people person but also finding a buddy. Andre kept you going and although it wasn't covered, you are likely the reason Andre finished the event too. Thanks for the video

Hi Ryan, just come across your channel! I’m a marathon & 50k ultra trail runner & am entered into the 100k Thames for this year too. Quick question, what was terrain like? % split of mud, gravel, path? And yes… I am also a serial faller! 😂
@RyanCondon
@RyanCondon 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for the comment. The Thames Path is completely flat and the first 50k is footpath and concrete, very easy to run on. Last 50k is a mix of path, dusty trails and very slippery grass. I ran it on the hottest day of the year so when the sun went down and the temp dropped the grass across the fields within the last 20k were soaking wet caused by mildew. This year ill be wearing running trainers for first half and then changing to waterproof trail trainers for 2nd half. Hope this helps.

Can i get your advice?? In april i completed a hilly 63km race, in 7hrs 56mins. Very hilly and warm. In 3 weeks i have a 100km run coming up. It has no cutoff time, so im going to be taking it very easy. 8- 9 mins per km. My longest run before the 63km was only 17kms, but i just kept going and did it just under 8 hrs. This 100km will be much much flatter, im feeling quietly confident to get it done! But just nervous. Im going to have a crew car carrying my water, salts, and food, so i dont have to carry anything myself. Im absolutly determined to get it done. No cutoff time. Do you think based on my past race i can do this.?? Thanks

@@RyanCondon I think so too. It's just the fast that it's 100km, it's unknown territory for me going further than 65km. I keep telling myself compared to the 65km race in april, this one is on much flatter route, it's going to be nowhere near as warm, and there's no cutoff time, so all those things are big plusses. Also i dont have to carry any gear as i have a support crew in a car. If you were me, would you look at all those as plusses and feel stronger going into the race ??

No land speed records were broken, you're right, got the job done though! Relentless forward progress. Thanks for watching.

@RyanCondon respect the effort but you woukd be better going for much less distance like 2k or 5k and picking up the pace. If the title of the videos is going to be Run it's not quite running. All the best to you all the same, staying fit is not easy I have my own challenges in that regard
