Same issue with that darn airbag light. But I was recently putting in LED's for all dash lights, and kept popping the dash light fuse with the cupholder light, so just left that little bastard out. Also remembered my passenger airbag disable switch used to light up.. Turns out that unit stops working if the bulb pops (and airbag light)... but soldered in a new one and all is good now. But thanks, now I know how to get at the clockspring if need be :)
Sorry for the late reply. The clockspring fixed it but it died again after a year. I did buy an extremely cheap part at around $65 from eBay. If it breaks again, I'm going to have to pony up the big bucks and buy a factory replacement which, I believe, is around $200.
I didn't mess with the passenger airbag. I did replace the passenger airbag dash switch but that didn't do anything. It was just cheap from eBay and I could rule it out. If your passenger airbag light is out on the dash, chances are that you have a faulty clockspring.
