Same! I played C:S, didn't really get it, shelved it, and years later discovered Biffa's traffic fixes. It helped me realize how much of the game I was missing and gave me a new appreciation for it.

@5:48 you mentioned you wished the camera would follow in a set position... It will if you follow, then switch to the photo (camera) app in game. I believe it still shows the app in the corner, unsure if you can make it go away with hiding UI. Worth a look maybe. 13 years is a long time! I remember when Biffa would have to send his videos to us in the mail, b4 the internet was invented...lol.

High rent warning may mean it needs higher density not just low rent housing. If you go to medium or mixed in a few places it get rid of the popup.

@Biffa, you should create a checklist of all the things an area needs, 2 elementary schools, 1 high school, police, fire, medical, death care, etc, so that you don't have to keep going back and adding it in haphazardly.

The death-and crime waves seem pretty frustrating as I remember we were told there'd be no need to spam service buildings all around a city in CS2 whereas it seems that's what has to be done anyway to make the city work

I mean, ~50k People on that Island and 3 or 4 crematoriums isn't that bad at all, is it? Wouldn't call that spamming, especially as Biffa surely overdid it a bit for the future. The traffic also didnt really help getting the services to their desired places.

em, Biffa. the largest stadium in the UK is Twickenham and it can only fit 82K people. Don't know if you go to rugby games, but if you want to know how it would feel like to stand in front of 150k people imagine that, but double.

Just for the record, Twickenham is only the largest dedicated Rugby venue (actually the largest in the world). Wembley holds 90K and is the actual largest capacity stadium in the UK (and the second largest in Europe) 😉

Hey Biffa, gotta say I wasn't expecting a rundown on your youtube history, but 13 years is impressive. I'm a brand new creator for Cities Skylines 1 and 2 for now, and honestly, 2 is making it tricky to stay motivated. I guess you could say I'm doing what you did 13 years ago and just doing videos for fun....er, more or less. Anyway, thanks for all the tips and tricks that got me into CS1, and that are helping to stick around in CS2. I'm still trying to find my own style, but like every new creator, I'm just another bumbling fool for now. That said, I wouldn't have considered doing my own videos if not for you and others like you, so, hats off. Take care.

fell in and out with a lot of channels including yours as i grew older. First seen you poking around in season 3 of Minecraft. Really got into your Cities, the same time Keralis was posting, you carried in those years. It's wild to think how long ago that was cause id guess 5-6yrs but seems a lot more time has passed haha. 39:54 pretty sure the high rent symbol only disappeared because no one lives there anymore. I only realised with my large city recently by hovering over all my low density residential, that half of them were empty. When on the zoning tool, you can see the roads are red which means bad suitability and no one will live there, meaning you have to increase the zoning density. This is really annoying as now my city has literally 0 low density residential. 🙃

"Why dont you just make one big one" Have you ever seen a 5mile wide 10 mile long singular plot of farmland owned and operated by a single family farm?! No, no you dont... you see something like 5-10 farms just along the one 10mile long side so like 10-20 families on that 5mile by 10mile rectangle, most likely many many more... So thats why you dont just "make one big one", because it just doesnt make sense unless it were some massive industrialized farming company with thousands of employees...

Huh... random question for those dev tools... Does a parking lot NEED "concrete" or just a driving lane and spaces? I ask because if it just needs the lane and spaces you could totally make some "field parking", like those gravel/dirt parking lots at camp grounds or other outdoors areas like rural farming areas... people would make dirt lots for parking instead of becoming a "concrete jungle".. this would add some serious realism as well as looking really really cool before you put down the concrete part.

Transportation, taxes, parking and many other city services are free. Where are you making the bulk of your money? Exporting Energy? Industry?

Even if you don't tax your residential zones, citizens still have trouble paying rent bescause it's someting that's defined by the land's value. And land's value is defined by service availability and parks. Some of the ways to fix high rent issue is to add welfare offices, make a low residential zones far from services, or lower the quality of life by removing parks.

Has anyone else been experiencing parking motorcycles creating massive traffic jams throughout the whole city? My city is at 125k population and I opened my game today and the whole city is riddled with traffic jams because when a motorcyclist parks the stop the traffic on the street next to them, and it seems they only finish getting off and let the traffic continue after I zoom in on them. I saw a bug report for this but it's causing crime and ambulance and hearse problems since the service vehicles can't get anywhere 🙃🙃🙃 My poor city, I want to play it but it's too big for its own good

I'd rather live downtown. Crime waves don't bother me as much irl. Just get good locks and be nice to your neighbours. Especially if they are criminals.

Seriously, the Dev menu has so many cool things, it's a real shame they didn't implement them in the main game (without having to use the command) Something like Advanced Parking or so that gives access to the objects you need for a customized parking and what not...

Has there been anyone looking into if the crime system is working correctly? I have a prison and the most peooke in it I've seen is 7 and thr Jails at stations are empty inspite of high crime at times. According to what i see, my coverage is very good, my police just dont seem to catch criminals. I am wondering if there is some odd error with police and crime. The other thing could be im doing somethinh wrong i cant seem to figure out. Maybe this video will tell me how yo fix the problem. "Workers and resources" crime system is so much more robust, having a courthouse helps as well.

29:28 with that kind of parking lot, you could realistically enter from anywhere, I'm not sure how the game designates entrance/exits but its something that is generally overlooked that would add a lot more depth and efficiency to the city builder style games!

I suggest making districts that we allocate schools and city services separately to each district. This cuts down on travel and efficiency of the services. It might help with Job repopulating schools as well.

Hi Biffa, I've been watching your videos for a few years now, probably i'm the only viewer from Brazil hahaha. Since you're open to game suggestions to the channel, i would like to recommend Oxygen Not Included. This is a game from Klei (Don't Staver Togheter is also a must) and you need to micromanage your resourses and duplicants until you build a rocket to get out of your asteroid. It's very very fun. Since I can't afford patreon, i'll be very sad if this suggestion would become exclusive to patreon's but there's it.

The easiest way to get people to stop whining about rent is to give them jobs. You have basically no offices and very little industry aside from resource extraction/farming. You can easily build out offices next to your residential and commercial areas which will both give your higher-educated citizens better incomes and open other job slots for lower educated citizens as employment reshuffles.

Hi Biffa. Congrats and keep it up... You can get the camera to maintain orientation to a vehicle if you click on it to follow it then open photo mode and hide the UI using the 'crossed out eye' icon...

Biffa the ones with the chimneys are industry producing buildings whereas the other type without is generally storage (except for the 2x2 buildings which are all without chimneys).

Well that was a funny moment. The moment Biffa starts talking about the lower resolution videos the quality dropped. I thought he was doing a little effect for a flashback or something. Turns out one of my games started to update and RU-vid dropped the quality automatically due to bandwidth.
