These collabs are always so much fun, you two bring the inner child out in each other. Between Jazza's art skills and Shad's knowledge, these two could put out truly excellent fantasy/medieval castle layouts for roleplaying maps. All professional historians during this day and age are frauds. They read historical documents and then act like they know exactly what they're talking about. There may be a credible excuse for this but it's still the hard truth. Someone needs to be a time traveler to actually experience history. "I dont want to hit you" was the same exact problem i had when i graduated my Beginner's Class. When we armored up, consciously, i knew there was nothing i could do to hurt my opponent. But subconsciously my mind would go into a bout of anxiety, and hold me back, causing me to hesitate and not follow through with my attacks and counters; thinking "Oh no! You're going to hurt them!"

To be honest if you got hit by one it would hurt, but the issue with (most) jumping attack or other similar super flashy attacks is that they're telegraphed a mile away so any semi-competent opponent would easily see and counter them. This applies to pretty much any martial art (and I'm counting boxing and greco-roman wrestling as martial arts for this), some moves are super flashy and look cool if you can pull them off but are practically impossible to pull of against resisting opponents as they're so highly telegraphed that any semi-compentent opponent pretty much has to intentionally be hit by them due the attacks being so easy to see and counter.

@@Blox117I can't tell if you're serious or not, so I'll respond as you were. Short anwser:no Long Anwser: most sword are really badly balanced for throwing (there's javelins as heavy as some swords so the weight isn't really an issue) so hitting with them while thrown at any reasonble distance is more due blind luck then anything skill based and throwing it at melee distance it's really just a weak thrust that also disarms you. Not mention that throws suffer also from the exessive telegraphing issue, it's not that bad for weapons meant to be thrown as they're used in different role to swords, but throwing swords is just another flashy move that doesn't really work like it does in the movie, in fact you can see Shad slapping off thrown swords that could have hit him and same would be true if they were using steel blades.

@Davis Whitaker shad does spar, he trains with a bunch of different weapons. Hell you can find a lot of videos of him dueling a lot of other people.

Sure but the problem lies in the fact that he didn't change up his teaching approach much once it became obvious what he was doing was not helping resolve the flinching issue. It might be boring, but going quarter speed or slower is how you fix flinching. Go through the motions at a speed your body's natural reaction is not to tense at and you will be able to get rid of that reaction through the development of muscle memory. That is the fist step when a student is "afraid" of whatever you are trying to teach them, doesn't have to be swordplay. If their natural reaction is to flinch, then the only path forward is removing that flinch otherwise you get the situation we just witnessed where essentially no progress is made.
