I am so glad to hear that both of you love educated patients! I often feel worried that the health providers that I see don’t like me to ask questions and just want me to listen to them! I respect this who would patiently attend to my questions. That’s how I can come informed decisions. I am extremely thankful for RU-vid where I have learnt tremendously.

The honesty and openness of this conversation is so refreshing. I really wish all dentist and doctors were sharing this perspective and good intent

Went to a dentist after 10yrs and having a baby and gingivitis during pregnancy. First dentist looked and showed me I have calculus and bone loss and gum loss due to it. No cavities. He examined and said I have no cavities and two previous ones filled. I told him I had 8 filled when I was a teenager. He didn’t believe me. He probed and said I have pockets 3-6mm and that he can’t treat me that I need to see a specialist that I am at risk of tooth loss due to periodontitis. I Went for a 2nd opinion a week later and the hygienist said there was bone loss and gum loss as well and so I do have periodontitis. Once probing there were more 6mm pockets and even a 10-11mm pocket. She said I can do SRP that I don’t need to see a periodontist. That my teeth are great other than not seeing a dentist in so long. She noticed the 8 previously filled cavities. She said once I do SRP my pockets will decrease greatly and I can just be on peri matinance. The dentist came in and looked at my teeth for a couple seconds and talked about my incisors being small and how they can add veneers later on if I want and how I’m in good hands with the hygienist and my periodontitis isn’t bad enough to involve a perio specialist. Who do I listen to? The first had terrible bedside manner and didn’t explain much at all. The 2nd seemed so sweet and listened and explained so much, but I don’t know if I’m letting that and the hope that there is cheaper fix cloud my judgement. I’m a stay at home mom and don’t have a lot of money, but I want to save my teeth. My mother lost all of her teeth due to periodontis and my grandma lost teeth. I don’t heal well and get infections easily so procedures scare me

Typical protocol is general dentist will recommend "deep cleanings" (scaling and root planing).Usually done in two appointments 1.5 to 2 hours long, THEN reevaluate in 4 to 6 weeks, where they need to full mouth probe and check tissue tone. If there are still pockets 6mm or deeper, a referral to a periodontist is appropriate .

Thank you thank you thank you! Please don't stop your good will..i may need to travel to Dallas for my dental care.. My trust factor is low. inability and willingness to show xray and ct results, no choices given and resulting mismanagement.. It's a difficult place to be in.. Still have issues to be addressed.. Ugh I hate dentistry. I still feel like the field is archaic like when I’m the 1800’s did blood letting

Hmmmm.... do you still have your teeth? Do you feel brushing is archaic? How about flossing???
@dplj4428
@dplj4428 Год назад
Eow! I never heard it described as "subjective". So i translate to mean: a matter of opinion and a dentist's experience/skill at diagnosis. Also, i think how well they read patient's outlook. Also, listening to these discussions educates me that we need to 😊 don't make it easy for the honest and
@Alex-wx8be

And what I mean by archaic is that the field still misses the mark on prevention. I feel like this field you could have severe decay on all teeth and dentists would be “who cares” let’s fill and bill baby! 💵

Sometimes it comes across like a griff. I go in for a cleaning and then they ALWAYS have deep cleanings, Floride treatments, water rinse, etc up charges. I said no thanks to the added stuff and they didn't clean my teeth. The administrator as I left (when I said it's weird I didn't get a cleaning) she said I have an infection and they can't clean without the other up charges. That was the first time I heard about any infection hygienist and doc didn't say that. I don't think it's true. It's not a money issue I can pay it, I just want to know how, why, and be asked. To be fair I don't trust it due to the up charges.

I just found your channel. Dentist must believe the pts that they are actually brushing and flossing. The problem is the method the pt is using might not be enough. Pt can only see their bottom teeth and the outside of their teeth they cannot see the inner parts of the top teeth so we brush and floss area we see. The top teeth gum line under the roof is not seen unless the pt but a mirror in their mouth while looking into a mirror on the wall and shine a flash light in their mouth, only then can they see what's up under the top teeth. Personally I use a toothette, dip in a salt water solution with peroxide and rub against the gum line to kill bacteria after brushing, flossing and water pik. It seems to work but I wish I knew this earlier. Some dental issues are caused by GMA foods. Fruits are too sweet but we need the fiber. Also some issues are genetics. Dentists never consider that some people are just genetically predisposed to dental issues.

Insurance has had a lot to do with the "upscale charges". And as far a s cleanings go, if they bill out a "cleaning" when you needed more, it is considered fraudulent. Its a whole bag of worms!

New dilemma. I recently had endodontic treatment on a molar. Getting prepped for the crown, I was informed, that now, I needed to see a periodontist for bone grafting, and scaling and root planing due to a deep pocket, and lack of bone in that area. I am perplexed. I thought that all was a go, that the tooth was salvageable, and that all that was needed was endo, and a crown, and now....I am sprung with yet....another step? This doesn't make sense to me. Before we went ahead with the endo and the crown prep, shouldn't the dental professionals have told me that there was a possibility of a bone grafting due to bone loss? Why spring that on me now? I just can't get lucky at any dental office. Every move I make opens up a can of worms. I am going to see the periodontist just for the consult. I am under the impression that bone grafting is mostly done when dentists are intending to insert implants, rather than for the procedures that I have embarked on. Big sigh. I have had enough. Not to mention, that Scaling and Root Planing don't look like it is the right way to go for every mouth either. I swear, I'm coming back in my 2nd life as a dentist. I would construct the very best dental office, and walk the patient through the intended plan...step by step, and why. If there are alternative methods of treatment, I would present them. Maybe I'm living in lala land, but...why spring a further step on this one tooth, if not for a poor diagnosis or for the love of money? Can you enlighten me please?

Yes see a specialist and if u need to see another one even more expensive do it. Don't let a general dentist do anything unless they have 700 reviews and little to really no bad review.

I'm turning 32 &I've been with my dentist since I was 27. My dentist left me with 9 teeth, and 4 root canals failed in the first year. Literally screw posts Ejected out of my jaw. My dentist said it was due to not having a cleaning. Every tooth is decayed, stained broken. I've paid for the same teeth over and over. In 5 years, my dentist got my life savings (having no dental insurance) my smile was everything until I had an accident (sharing my vulnerability to my new dentist of how important this was to me. Was a huge mistake, preying on a young girl who paid cash upfront and costs for future dental apps. While crying in the office being embarrassed and in constant pain. In 5 years, I paid over 27 thousand, and now I have to start all over with 9 teeth

I just wanted you guys to know that I have just had the worst experience ever at the dentist and I believe malpractice was performed on me. I need help. I’m so depressed I don’t know what to do. I’ll start here. I wanted a better smile I went and got a partial they pulled my front tooth bc it was crooked not bad no cavity in the tooth. They pulled it and the partial didn’t fit my mouth very uncomfortable hurt me so I started asking questions. I wanted a good smile they recommended 4 crowns and a bridge where they pulled the crooked front tooth. I go back pay 4K I didn’t have and it was a nightmare. They shaved down my 4 front teeth than office became very busy so they left me sit in the chairs for two hours the local anaesthesia wore off they shoot me up with more numbing injections it wore off again 2 more hours pass he comes back and try to drill around and I feel everything he gets mad and says I need a root canal he performs a root canal and felt it big time I started crying and almost punking. He says he don’t know what his assistant shoots me with more anaesthesia it wears off. The doctor literally says they need to take me to the hospital at this point I been in the chair for 7 hours numbing injections reach five or six my whole face was numb but I could feel everything in my mouth. They literally hold me down while the doctors takes care of his other patients I lay there in the worst pain of my life while an assistant put my temporary crowns on she picks up a drill and says she has to shorten my my crown I can’t take it so she only shaves off a little bit of the crown. The assistant wasn’t supposed to perform the doctors job but she did because he ran off and wouldn’t return he wanted to take me to the hospital so they could put me to sleep. Fast forward, it’s been 10 days I’m still in pain one the temporary crowns broke off yesterday. I don’t know what to do I need a lawyer. Please respond I need help

My son was on our state funded dental insurance, never missed an exam or a cleaning and never had a cavity. When he turned 17 and got on our work insurance, all of a sudden he had 8 cavities that needed to be filled! Dental care and insurance is SUCH a SCAM in the United States!!!

Because of this video, I now fully trust my dentist. I hadn't been to the dentist in over 8 years, and was uneasy about all the work my dentist said I needed done (tooth extraction and root canal). Based off of what was said in this video, I'm confident my dentist is competent with his evaluation. Thank you.

I was told prior to my implants I didn't need bone graft. So he's pulling 2 teeth and says oh you need bone graft. I didn't know where the bone came from or cost. Then after placing implants wasn't offered temp teeth. Is this ok?

What about when you go to dentist they do the X-ray and cleaning, then 5he next day you get to do a zoom meeting with the dentist who then gives his recommendation. I would rather talk to the dentist in person

I get judged because I have Sjogrens Syndrome and I actually brush, use dentist floss, water pic, dry mouth wash, fluoride and all sorts of things and it takes a lot yet I put a great deal of time into taking care of my teeth yet still get cavities crazy quick and get judged very harshly all the time. I have yet to find a dentist that will listen to me and fix my cavities ASAP then it usually becomes a bigger issue with me having to get root canals and crowns. So it frustrates me.

How does snap on dentures that run $7000 approximately, that’s 4 implants, to 4 on 4 that cost $13000 and up One is snapped in the other is screwed in , still 4 implants $6000 more to screw them in vs just a snap Psh unreal

Please note that it is NOT always the patients fault and there are medical conditions such as Sjögren’s syndrome that cause much faster decay rates and if you also have family history of dental issues genetics play a factor obviously as well.
