In this video, Michael and Brian discuss why HVACs don't always work well as dehumidifiers, why box store dehumidifiers usually aren't ideal for the crawl space, and the warranties that all Aprilaire dehumidifiers come with. Great video. Does the same advice apply to conditioned/sealed crawl spaces. If yes, why?

If the humidity is still high in those areas, a dehumidifier is definitely recommended.

Do you guys service Livingston Tn? I have a huge crawl space. Higher ceilings than my actual house. It’s more like a basement than a crawl space. Our hvac is down there. We moved into this house in October of 2019. As I’m typing this, it’s July of 2020. We’ve notice mold growing on some of the things we store down there just a couple weeks ago. Some standing water, I’m thinking from condensation on the hvac pipes. Anyway, there was an attempt as a vapor barrier down there but it’s torn and missing in a few spots. I suppose I should also say it’s block walls and Earth floor. We just put a dehumidifier down there yesterday and bought a humidistat. I’ve also made it so it drains out the same pipes my hvac does. When we started it, it was at 84%. Now it’s at 73% not even 12 hours later but I’m thinking the moisture will wick through the earth floor and always stay down there. Who knows if it’ll ever get below 60. I’m hoping for 50 down there. But I don’t know what my dehumidifier will be capable of. It’s just a keystone 50 pint. On amazon it said it was good for 3000sq ft. I guess my question is, would you recommend I redo the crawl space vapor barrier regardless? If so, maybe could we contact you for an estimate?

Hi Joshua, Livingston is a little out of our current territory (July 2020), but they may be able to make an exception. You can still fill out a form on our website to request service and someone will reach out to you and let you know. crawlspaceninja.com/free-assessment/ Having the vapor barrier replaced should help the dehumidifier get the humidity down more, but I'd say keep an eye on the humidistat and see how things are after a full week. It can take several days and even weeks for a crawl space to dry out. You can decide on encapsulation and mold remediation after then. Hope this helps answer your question!

Crawl Space Ninja Hey thanks for replying on this! My wife and I actually saw your billboard on our way to Dollywood this past weekend and she was like hey it’s the guys you’ve been watching on RU-vid. It was pretty funny. Update on the crawl space though, it’s down to 60% in there now. Hoping the electric bill won’t be too much. I’m wanting to get another one for inside the house as well because we need on for it too. I’ll keep an eye on stuff and most likely reach out on your website in short time. Thanks again for replying and also for the amount of content you have on here. I know everyone including myself appreciates your knowledge.

@@xperiarichards A lot of times our customers find that the humidity inside the house will begin to drop as well once the crawl space is under control, so you may find that you don't need a second one. Once the dehumidifier gets the humidity down it shouldn't have to run as much, but dehumidifiers usually don't cost too much to run! Thanks so much for your support.
