While one can't use the existing venting for the tankless, it is possible to use the path and penetration(s) of the existing venting for the new venting. This was done with my tankless install to replace the old tank type heater. Pulled out the old venting and installed the new venting without having to make new holes in the roof or wall and not having to patch the old holes. That was a big time and cost savings and as mentioned in the video, it resulted in the shortest possible vent run.

@@dougs867 Yes, that flex vent kit they have is interesting. Saves removing the old venting, just run the flex vent up through the existing vent pipe. In my case the existing vent was that nasty Transite pipe and I wanted to get rid of that.

Your direct venting was a required concentric vent water Heater. Your concentric vent example was a heater with separate intake and exhaust and an option of running concentric venting.

My parents have an old gas water heater, vented to a brick chimney (it was bricked in but the top is open) can I use that with the proper pipe for exhaust and draw intake from the room (its a large basement). Thank you for the video!

I mean the one is for fresh air no harm no foul and the other is just for emissions a 2 inch pipe should be more than capable of pumping the co2 gas out the side of my house
