Exactly and the biggest point all of these videos tend to miss is that China invested in their Railway Heavily to overcome the 2008 financial crisis. Where all countries are bailing out their big companies to boost the GDP China invested heavily in their public sector and capital expenditure , specifically in bullet trains and airports.

1. In case of DFC, we can follow US Strategy of building it and transferring to private sector for efficient use. 2. But, in case of passenger trains, Bullet trains must be on high traffic sections between cities and Semi high speed AC3 trains common on all routes or for night sleeper journeys. To expedite this, we must have to create PSU for Railways manufacturing, same as corptrisation of Ordinance factory boards, Convert the Railway Coach Factories into PSU. This PSU will focus on new generation train technologies, manufacturing of current requirements trainsets, etc like Chinese CRRC instead of dependent on foreign private entities. For bridges and tracks, L&T like Indian companies can do faster.
@shenanigans4177
@shenanigans4177 10 месяцев назад
Ever heard of ICF? Privatizing DFC makes no sense when tracks are built on govt money, unlike the US where tracks are owned privately. Eventually DFC should be made privately operated but till then govt should operate it with low margins to encourage industries.

Indian railways serves more passengers than China railways inspite of having less than half their network length but we have to massively increase high-speed and semi-high speed rail lines. Germany's example is a more viable solution for us than China's because of land acquisition issues
@zhangburnham7226
@zhangburnham7226 10 месяцев назад
Because China's railway and subway are separate systems, the railway data only includes long-distance cross-city passengers. China has 10,000km of subway to provide urban and suburban commuting for the population,which is 10x more than the railway passenger
@zhappy
@zhappy 10 месяцев назад
@@zhangburnham7226 Yes subways are excluded because in almost every country subways are separate from national railways (same in India except Kolkata). Intra-city and inter-city travel is different. If we include subways then actually Japan is far ahead of both China and India when it comes to number of passengers served inspite of their lower population as they use it frequently. Yeah China does have a fantastic network of both subways and railways but they have surprisingly low capacity utilisation (and their population is declining) so they might have to reduce operations or even close down lines which are not financially viable as they have amassed huge debt. More sensible for India to follow Europe and Japan to upgrade their railways as India can't acquire land the same way as China does.
@zhangburnham7226
@zhangburnham7226 10 месяцев назад
@@zhappy The difference is that the population of India still relies heavily on rail for intra-city commuting, so does Japan, while China does not. China's train stations are all connected to subways, so China has made it possible to commute between any two points in third-tier and above cities without leaving the air-conditioning system. In addition, Japan is a much smaller country, its cities are very crowded, and its railways were built early, so urban transportation has to rely on railways. However, China's big cities have wide roads, and internal commuting does not rely very much on the subway, giving ordinary people more options
@zhappy
@zhappy 10 месяцев назад
@@zhangburnham7226 Yeah I completely agree with you, the way China chose to build and rebuild its cities is more comparable to a wide open city like Noida or Chandigarh instead of old heritage cities like Jaipur or Chennai. Its hard to rebuild our cities like China because of land acquisition issues (but we can build our satellite cities like China), so for old city upgradation, Japan and Europian model is better. Instead of relying on wide roads, it looks to enchance the existing cities to adapt to modern times, delhi is kind of trying to do that it seems :)
@abirbo
@abirbo 10 месяцев назад
Indian railways serve more passengers than China because a large percentage of population in India cannot afford air travel, unlike China. Hence, they have to rely on train travel. Air travel in China takes away a lot of loads from overland transportation.

Indian rail can never overtake because the reasons 1. Our babus don't have a vision they only want that fat Central govt salary nothing else 2. The Indian population is the most 3rd class population if railway try to add modern stuff people will steal or vandalise it, look at recent vande Bharat trains. 3. Extremely old infrastructure, rail needs to upgrade tracks or leave the current network on life support and create new one. 4. People protesting against any fare increase whatsoever, now if govt doesn't have the money how will they improve the system. Now even if i am wrong and Indian rail mitigates all these issues it will take 80 to 100 years to reach the level where China is at now. Recent bullet tain is the example.

When China hosted the Olympics in Beijing in 2008, there was only one high-speed train from Beijing to Tianjin at 300 km/hr. The real boom in building started after the 2008 economic crisis when China poured money into HSR. Today, 15 years later, the network extends 44,000 km and has cost a total of US 1 trillion. Beijing to Shanghai in 4 hours over 1300 km. The routes in the dense Eastern cities are profitable, but not so in the more sparsely populated western parts. The route from Lanzhou to Urumqi cost 20 B and will never be profitable. Many routes are built for political reasons. China has two-thirds of the world’s high-speed trains ( defined as more than 200 km hr). The cost per kilometer is $ 17-21 M in China compared to $ 25-39 M in Europe because of lower labor costs. One reason there is so much delay in the West is the environment. China’s success is due to political will and cheap labor for materials. Also, legally, it can move people who block the project. Also, flying in China is not only expensive but frequent delays because the military controls most of the air space. China intends to double its HSR network to 70,000 km by 2035.
@Facts..Checker
@Facts..Checker 10 месяцев назад
Probably you analysis and observation are not quite accurate, more like the western's views and angles : 1. Profit for HSR is not their aim, and it ain't profitable as you knew. It is the overall development and mobility of the people in general that has far outweight the losses. Hence, the higher productivity and new revenues created due to HSR. It is more to compensate for the loss of operating HSR. Current China development is the proof of their strategy works. In democracy, profit, politiciking, winning election are more far important. 2. Aviation is dominated by the west, mainly Boeing and Airbus. Maybe that's why airfares are expensive in China. But China builds their own airlines nowadays like Arj21, C919 (in operations) and C929 (long haul version). Another potential flashpoint in the future. 3.Unlike many countries, they had to follow the west due to past history, opinion manipulation and western dominance of almost all sectors. Unlike China, its determined to go their own way - a mixture/adoption of the best global practises and own ingenious solutions/methods for rebuild. 4. Despite the name communist in the governing party, actually China practises MERITROCRACY. as some scholars suggested. The top leaders are well educated, experience with excellent track record of governning a province of hundreds of mils, and well briefs of international affairs are only eligible to be promote to top of the government. But all are demonized and labelled as dictators. Anyway who cares as long as the country has experienced a meteorite rise in development, poverty eradication at record time, much higher living standard, and increasing leadership in science and technology. Yet China never proclaimed the way is the best or promoting others to change, especially like the west, or those who are egoistic, gullible and narcissistic. It's undeniable that China is the only eastern and different country now that has risen and capable of standing up to western hegemony and dominance in term of size, economic, financial, technology and even millitarily for the past 3 centuries. And that "unacceptable" ! Perhaps you may disagree but which country in the world and in history had done such feat, in scale and achievements, all within 40 years.

India is currently facing Overpopulation, Poverty, illiteracy and lack of Morality and Ethics in citizens. Lol the average Chinese is not at all disciplined..and so is an average Indian. But back to the topic. What you are talking about would be Mao-era's iron grip on people, which the present day China also believes was uncalled for. But, at the same time, necessary. It was mainly fear-based. It didnt cultivate people to be better. Period. You would be surprised how present day Chinese youngsters actually destroy ancient artifacts and heritage in China (and recently Bhutan). But yes, an average Chinese is much more literate (as in aware, street-smart) than an average Indian. And that is the only difference.

No. Needs ground level work too. For example how Indian schools mostly discard "moral science" as a subject/ discipline. It is understandable when classes 10-12 do that, swap the class for Sciences. But Elementary school doing the same? Also, most of the Western countries are clean because they got the same clean country from their ancestors. Its a norm for them to keep clean. East Asian schools work on cleanliness extra hard by making school students stay back in proper circulation to clean classes, make corridor floors gleam until you see your reflection in them, and pick up litter across the school property. Many go a step further by cleaning beaches on Weekends as a group/class activity. Of ourse all these have points to be gained later in report card. But the point is, cleanliness starts at a very early age and it naturally settles in in one's character. While we Indians like to keep saying "cleanliness begins at home". It sounds nice, but is extremely misleading. Because not all households are responsible and nor do they care. Seriously can one compare a millionaire's kid to have the same outlook towards environment as a drunkard labourer's kid studying in the same class? This is where India lacks behind. On ground level. But I do agree that such policies are to be implemented top-down.
