VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
Why is the NEP 2020 a welcome change?
What are some of our concerns?
The new National Education Policy (NEP) has been unveiled by the Ministry of Education on July 30.
Here is a list of key policy changes that have been announced and what it means for you:
1.School system: The 10+2 system will be divided into 5+3+3+4 format.
2.Report cards: The report cards of students will be reviewed by peers and teachers.
3. Board exam: The class 10 and 12 exams - referred to as board exams - are likely to be held in two difficulty levels and students will be given a second chance at boards to improve their score. They will be free to take up courses regardless of the stream division of arts, commerce, and science.
4. Language policy: The policy states, the medium of instruction until at least class 5 (and preferably till class 8) should be “home language or mother tongue or local/regional language”.
5. The common entrance exam for admissions: From school to colleges, it is advised that there should be a single gateway. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct a common entrance examination (CEE) for admissions to universities across the country. A common aptitude test, as well as specialized common subject exams in the sciences,
6. Exit point: “Graduate-level, master’s and doctoral education in large multidisciplinary universities, while providing rigorous research-based specialization,” mentioned the NEP. The undergraduate degree will be of either three or four-year duration, with multiple exit options.
7. Credit bank: An Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) shall be established which would digitally store the academic credits earned from various recognized HEIs so that the degrees from an HEI can be awarded taking into account credits earned.
8. Educational technology: An autonomous body, the National Educational Technology Forum (NETF), will be created to provide a platform for the free exchange of ideas on the use of technology to enhance learning, assessment, planning, administration, and so on, both for school and higher education.

I have done masters in mechanical engineering. The saddest part is that after MTech, my only 2 gateways were either to join a Research lab as an associate or to get into lecturing. The only way to upscale my career option later was to do a phd, yet have no industrial exposure. You are right, a person who teaches engineering students himself/herself is unemployable.

A flaw (in my opinion) I want to adress about the current education policy is related to the completion of notebooks of every subject just for the sake of it . During exam time , this becomes hectic as all the students have to make sure they prepare well for the exams . But not a lot of us get to do that since we have this burden of completing never ending notebook work . Sometimes it feels like we're not even studying to learn something . Because our teachers will hand out all these questions and worlkload tends to get a lot since a part of the portion of the syllabus is rushed during the last week before exams actually start . There seems to be no benfit in just brainlessly copying questions and answers . It's not just me but my fellow classmates too who I've seen spend hours on completing the same . The completion of this notebook thing is damaging and time consuming for us students .

Wish NEP is implemented in a proper way. I am from tamilnadu. My state government is opposing it but I just feel they are doing it for votes. Please stop this we need this New education policy 2020. I suffered from education system and I just want my future generation for creativity to be encouraged among them. Many argue that we have CEO like sundar pichai satya nadella but again Remember again they are just workers again and they can be replaced. Please revamp the engineering curriculum too dear central govt. And teachers is a big mess of india. Teaching is considered as a low lying job and it's only unemployed engineers are being recruited as teachers. See in 2018 ctet only 1.5 percent cleared exam it was revamped. It's a transition phase.

The problem here is that only the students have curiosity, but the teachers they're supposed to be taught by, aren't. This then leads to a fixed old poor mindset of the teacher, and then most teachers believe that they're above all the students of the class and close their minds to anything new. As the time would pass even if the curriculum would be updated, still the students would have a pulling back effect from the teachers. The teachers have to be very curious and open to learning new things every day!

TL;DR; I will talk in perspective of CBSE and DELHI --> 1. Board exam: CBSE at present allows students to take any combination of subjects and it doesn't differentiate b/w science, commerce and arts. It is the school which doesn't enroll students because either they do not have teachers or not many students take subjects like SCULPTURE, ENTREPRENEURSHIP etc. These subjects have been there with CBSE from long time. So, I wouldn't count it to be something new in NEP. CBSE also allow to retake 12th Boards and you have option to retake as many subjects as you want, you don't have to retake every subject. For retake you don't need any school. You can appear as an individual. After exams you get a new marksheet and that marksheet doesn't show if you have reappeared for the exam. 2. Exit point --> Delhi University provides multiple exit options from quit a long time. say in a 3 year Bachelor program, if you exit after first year you will get certificate, 2nd year diploma and 3rd year degree. These are only few points, just want to show that GOI and previous MHRD had all the same things in the basket. BUT the biggest pain is implementation. WHEN you don't have teachers leave the point of good teachers how will we uplift the lower part of the society. IN good private schools carpentry, potery, clay making had been since I started school (2000). WE don't have a timeline or even plan for implementation of NEP. THIS is should not remain a marketing gimmick. INDIA needs it.

One practical suggestion: Let capable YOUNG PEOPLE, both men and women, VOLUNTEER to give one year of their life for nation building. Left to the professional school teachers, who as you say are conditioned to think in an unimaginative rote teaching way, we will mess up this opportunity. When young creative persons, with a vision to transform this country, and also the world are willing to make a sacrifice,, we will reap rich dividends. You see the very idea of sacrifice; living for others, is a powerful, purifier of human beings. It benefits the sacrifice far more than the beneficiaries... that is a truth which we miss out. With this dose of willing sacrifice, future generations will together grow into what we call the golden age of Bharat.

We need to be optimistic and pessimistic at the same time to actually be able to come up with solutions to the problems in the education system and rectify mistakes. I disagree with you on choosing either optimism or pessimism. Both are required.

Well said. Thank u giving me clear explanation of what I was thinking. One thing I realize is different in North American education system is teaching kids from kindergarten about how to treat others, respect others even if you disagree, have dignity and self respect, keeping bubble space, self care and name it to tame it. I strongly feel if we add such emotional intelligence and socio behavioural skills in our system, it would be beneficial to the country, less struggle when you go out of the country or welcoming or invite foreigners safely in Bharat. Keeping my eyes on more educational related videos too.

Only children born with good IQ make it to the mark & become Sundar Pichais ..but majority don't because of Indian education policy based on Orthodox British education system which was meant to produce only office clerks. So when will Indian education policy produce a million sundar Pichais ? First thing the NEP should enforce is that no Home-work should be forced on children because of which children spend hours just to copy paste & somehow submit the homework & after school hours let's say if there is homework even for just 6 subjects then a student spends minimum 6 to 9 hours in just writing & filling pages of book without reading or understanding the subject matter & this is the reason most students are not sucucesfull in the later part of their life . and then we say when will India have a Microsoft or a Tesla or a Google. India does not have a Elon musk or a Bill gates etc because Indian education encouragees Mug-up culture and are producing crores & crores of non thinkers who may pass university exams but miserably fail in competative entrance exams. Why? Because Indian education only suits or is meant for children born with good or high IQ but what about the rest. ? Moreover since the student spends many hours in just filling pages without reading the subject as the student does not get time plus because the student spends all his or her after school-hours time in non productive homework so the student does not get time to play or engage in extra circular activities. So as a nation what kind of youth are we producing . As a nation India is producing non-productive..non physically fit youth who cannot compete & such a non competative youth population start taking short cuts and so compromise on merrit & so India has become a nation of non meritorious population & how can such a indian society of non-meritorious citizens create a positive & secure future for India. This vicious cycle which is the DNA of the current Indian education system must be broken to produce not a few sundar Pichais or Satya nadellas but India needs a million sundar pichais..& satya nadellas & Vishwanathan anand else India will be a slave nation dependent on other nations just to survive but not to prosper.

This was a very well put together research. I would have loved it if it talked about how reservation / quota going to work in relation to the new education policy.
