Trainspotting has been my favourite film since I was 15 - I used to watch it once a month every month - and this second one came out when I was 20 and I remember going to my tiny local cinema with a friend of mine who was also a huge fan and at the end of the film we were both sat there crying with our hands over our hearts and out mouths hanging open in awe of how good this is. It’s so rare a sequel doesn’t let you down and whilst this might not be the best movie ever I think this was the perfect film for fans (like me) of the first one. Loved you’re reactions to these films!

I loved this movie! When Spud gets his comeuppance I also got chills. He was screwed over so many time I love that both movies are alluded to him as the writer 🩷

I’m the same age as the characters, saw the first when it came out, and also (coincidentally) quit heroin nearly 20 years ago. This movie hit me, hard. It was the perfect sequel to the original story. And it was perfectly devastating. I cried like a baby during the new ‘choose life’ rant. I love that these two movies never flinch away from the real and the difficult stuff. The end feels hopeful, but also I worry Renton and Simon together will be unable to resist going back on. That’s one of the reasons I don’t see the people I did dope with.

Theoretically, in T1, as Renton put up half the money for the H deal he was due half the profits. Try selling Begbie on that though 😂

Spud is one of the greatest and most lovable movie characters ever. Also, he does some bad stuff but he has a much better moral center than any of his friends. Very sad that he views his family as better off without him, but it's an incredibly selfless thing for him to do.

I was born in 96 so never got to see the first one in cinemas so when this one came out I was straight there and I wasn’t disappointed. Think it’s a great sequel

Spuds girlfriend is played by the same actress in Trainspotting. She is Shirley Henderson and is a brilliant actress. She actually trained as a singer and was superb in Topsy Turvey. You should watch it!

I honestly think spud could hold his own as a main haracter in a spinoff/sequel. He's always been an amazing actor.

Having seen the original in theaters with my best friend at the time, having grown and changed over the years as mirrored in the movie, this is the perfect sequel to me. Has every reason in the world to exist, as it's not just a continuation of the story or fan service, but a direct look at how society and the human race has changed. Thank you for the vid!

I went in with low expectations being jaded by sequels being uninspired trash but T2 really followed up with their story and characters in a beautiful way and the direction and everything is just exactly what a Trainspotting fan could hope for in my opinion. This film is far more rewatchable than the original imo. Won't say it's "better," I just enjoy a lot of the scenes from this one more. I can't wait to watch these with my gf, she's never seen them so I'm excited to have these great films to watch with her and resonate as they do with many people.

They were originally going to call it "The Least Unfamiliar" but realized it wouldn't be as marketable. So they changed the name to T2: Trainspotting. Why T2? Because in Boyle's mind, these are the type of characters who would love Terminator 2 and want to call it T2 both as an ode and as a means to cheese off James Cameron. Or at least that's the reason Director Danny Boyle gave as to why T2.

The film T2 is not trainspotting 2 as thats actually a book called Porno with the same characters. If you read it you'd prob understand why they made this film instead.......

As an addict mostly using sometimes not, looking back some of the stupid things done while not sober in the late 90’s/ early 00’s was fun. Dangerous and stupid but fun. Now, not so much. I use daily and mostly hate myself for it. Even tho most people in my life have no clue
@tempbauer2131

I also want to explain that I have brain damage that mostly affects vision, speech, and memory (like just now, literally had to struggle with remembering memory is affected) PLUS i’m an insomniac with narcolepsy that will sleep walk, my fave: anorexia!, what i call “backwards” seasonal depression (originally labeled with manic depression more affected in summer as bipolar wasn’t very common back then... showing my age a bit) and sprinkle in some anxiety or panic attacks that mostly occur while driving. And those are just the things that have been diagnosed by doctors. Anyway... I’m already “crazy” and so sober me vs high or drunk me don’t look much different. In fact, the sleep walking will look like hallucinations and/or being delusional to those that don’t me

It's such a fantastic way to end the film. The absolution of spud is so satisfying. Mark has grown very little, and ends up where he started, and then that beautiful music kicks in.

@@Psilocybin77 Spud is just one of the most likeable movie characters period. Not a mean bone in his body. Just a purely good, albeit majorly flawed, person.

My only disappointment with the original Trainspotting was that they left out Begbie's back story, which was a key part of the novel & the play. T2 made up for it, while being an amazing exploration of nostalgia for those of us who remember the 80s & 90s. There was also the bonus of far more recognisable Edinburgh scenery than in the first one.

Originally they tried to have this follow closer to the sequel novel Porno by having it follow up after 10 years instead of 20. But for multiple reasons, 20 years worked better.
