Jayapal’s idea of working towards M4A in workable ways with with Biden sounds good to me. As a Warren Democrat, we got there first. My respect for Joe Biden is growing a lot these days. I ask myself this all the time now. If Bernie had won the primary, how likely is it that anyone would have cared what moderates valued as important and worked really hard to make sure moderates had a place at the political table. I see all of this a.great sign for the Biden era. It is a peak into a great presidency. He should nominate Warren as VP to seal this important deal. This crisis is not the time for pettiness but a coming together for the good of every person on this planet.

You're right that moderates would have been left behind and that probably would have hurt Bernie in November. My fully biased view is that the time for moderates is over. We are in a health crisis, a financial crisis, and a climate crisis. It is time for radical change

manning181016 I couldn’t agree with you more about the time of moderate politics is over. It is just a matter of how we break to a better path. I think Biden will be that bridge. He was not my first choice in all of this, but he is doing better than I would have hoped. You are right, this crisis changes the game.

Papa Midnight I would be the last person to complain about a underhanded throw, since I pitch them out all the time. Turnabout is fair play. I hope the Biden team gets off their backsides with the press thing. The stuck at home business makes it all hard enough already. I bet it is hot in Florida today. It is in the low 80’s here in NYC.

@@brianwalkup5214 The guys brought up a good point in their main pod segment (prior to Jayapal's interview). It wouldn't be a good look for Biden to break his own state governor's Stay at Home rules to go out and campaign; he'd then appear a lot like the Trumpists who think the rules don't apply to them. That being said, I do think the Biden campaign needs to up their game when it comes to a digital strategy, because the need to abide by social-distancing/quarantining is going to mean we're going to have to think outside of the box re: voter outreach.

Would invite my southern neighbourghs to take a look at our system here in Canada. What's required to access the free healthcare? Birth certificate:) Then, it may cost you 20$ if you loose your card (replacement fees...). Also, lot of companies offers very good drug insurance (that covers something between 80 to 90% of the fees), and if you do not have access by your job, there's a provincial prescription drug insurance...

Too bad you have to live in Canada. It's a shit hole. I was there last summer and made a large purchase, I was told the VAT Tax was something like 20%. I told them to stick it. "free healthcare' would cost me more $$$ in that dump My employer pays for my healthcare...

Nope, we are in the middle of a pandemic and millions don't have any healthcare, any job, and are being thrown out on the streets. We need a lot more than "Not being Trump". We need a universal healthcare system just for starters

Thank you for this excellent interview with Pramila Jayapal. She is a genuine politician with an honest approach at trying to repair the inequities that exist in today's polices which affect the working class. I am a 60 year old from Washington State and I am proud that she represents our state in the capital. If Pramila believes that Biden truly intends to implement some of the polices mentioned, Biden has my vote.

I like what she has to say here. Its clear and it makes sense. Long term actual functioning plans that cannot be easily undone. Plans that open the doors for future leaders that are optimistic, realistic and meaningful options, in all the areas that badly need government focusing on. Where all levals of government can built on them in a meaningful way, moving forward. Oppose to focusing on taking away the progress that's created by new governement who come in every four years. I think she also understands here that everything cannot just magically take place right away, there are no fast fixes, but working together bit by bit on concrete foundations so as the years move forward will give continued lasting changes/ upgrades! refreshing...

Biden is a criminal, unmasked a political opponent. TRump was impeached for the same thing,
@porcorosso89
@porcorosso89 4 года назад
No, Trump was impeached for attempting to extort a foreign politician to announce a fake investigation of a political rival, and then obstructing any attempt to investigate. He has admitted to both of these crimes publically many times, most notably in the memo issued by the White House after the whistleblower complaint came to light. His supporters are either too willfully blind to realise, or too stupid to realise. Pick your poison.

Medicare for all That is bull s*** and it won't work Ipay $275 a month that's for Medicare that actually pays for things doesn't cover everything no Dental no eye care and I pay the same for my wife people that think Medicare is free they are sorely mistaken these are pandering politicians that will say anything to push their agenda and get your vote and I almost forgot there's a deductible of $200 a year and then you have to pay co-pay on prescriptions you know if it sounds too good to be true it's probably bulshit

If Biden wanted to win, he would pick HER as his VP. But we all know he isn't actually going to go for a Progressive, only talk in vague platitudes during "Task Forces".. I don't so much blame Bernie and Jayapal for TRYING to work with the DNC, as much as I blame the DNC for not listening to their voter base

One of biggest things that can be done in a public option is making required for all medical providers to accept it if someone has it as t heir insurance. Then make the cap for reimbursements to providers at the Medicare rate. A lower public option premium coupled with capped reimbursements to providers will drive more people into the option and force private insurance to lower premiums and be more efficient
@alanblanes2876
@alanblanes2876 4 года назад
Reality check: 35 million people over the past 2 months now have no use for a public option.
@lucassende211
@lucassende211 4 года назад
@@alanblanes2876 That completely depends on how it is structured. Medicare for all would be funded by payroll tax for everyone. That could be done the same way through a public option...you just choose if you want the public option or a private plan. If you opt out...you have ability to purchase private plan. (The idea is to make private insurance unappealing and force them to be competitive). If you opt in the additional tax will be withheld from your paycheck Medicare for all has provisions allowing those who are unemployed to be covered. This could be added into a public option plan.

I don't really understand how you can say healthcare for all really makes its case because of this pandemic when the countries with national Healthcare policies are the ones that are suffering the most per capita.
@porcorosso89
@porcorosso89 4 года назад
The US is suffering the most: ~5% of global population, ~30% of cases (1.5m out of 4.7m total). The employer-based healthcare system in the US is clearly not fit for purpose when about a fifth of the workforce is now unemployed.

I think health care is really essential. I used to support public health care, but this pandemic has completely turned my head around. I look at the map, and there seems to be a strong correlation between the areas in the US that bought into and implemented Obamacare and those that didn't. The overwhelming majority of the deaths are in the Obamacare states and cities. About 90% or so. Maybe more. Other areas in the world that have seen significant outbreaks also have strong public health care systems, esp. Italy, Spain and the UK. It really brings home just how dangerous it can be to have all of your health care in one basket, everyone depended on the same organization, and everything in the hands of pizza girls, real estate developers, economists, soldiers and almost anyone except doctors and nurses. We need to move to privatization and wholeheartedly embrace for-profit care. This entire pandemic should have been put into the hands of the health insurance company executives the very first day. These experienced professionals have spent their lives dealing with health care and know how to do it, quickly, efficiently, while being able to pay everyone market wages and not have to require volunteers. They would have provided tests much more quicky, and would have been able a way to keep the hospitals open and providing regular service while also preparing for the flu victims. People really need to think about having their lives in the hands of politicians. I've found it to be the most terrifying experience of my life. I'd prefer private for-profit people anytime. At least with them you know who you're dealing with. And they are obligated by law to provide the services you pay for, while the government simply isn't. It's a much better way to go. And I think if the American people lead the way the other countries in the world will follow our lead and move from the 20th century of free care to the 21 century concept of best care money can buy.
@CincoSanders
@CincoSanders 4 года назад
How do you still not understand that Obamacare isn't public health care whatsoever?! My original question was going to be "How can this pandemic make you think a national health care system is not the answer?" but then I realized "This guy doesn't even know what universal health care is!"
