If the bride, and groom are on the same page, there should be no problems. We were fairly poor when we got married, but we pulled off a fantastic wedding for around $2500. First, I found a nice county run facility that sat right behind a mountain they have had fireworks shows on the 4th since I was a child. We set the date of the wedding for the 4th of July so free show there, and I'll never forget our anniversary which weighed heavy on my mind.😁 I hired El Pollo Loco to cater the food. I hired the chapel at the Mission Inn here in Riverside, Ca which was a playground for me when I was a child because it was empty, and not open for business at the time. The chapel also included our honeymoon suite. I had a friend who had a karaoke business at the time, and hired him to be the entertainment, and DJ. We had a great time for basically $1500 with the chapel, and room costing an additional $1000. Hope this gives some ideas to those who are getting married on a budget as it can be done very inexpensively. Of course this was 30 odd years ago so the prices here probably doubled or tripled, but El Pollo still caters, and it's good food for a great price. Find a local county or city run facility on the cheap, or maybe a church, or someone's backyard, we all have a rich friend or two to lean on. 😉Don't bankrupt yourself having what you think will be a fantasy wedding as your must pay the bill at some point! 👍✌ P.S. The rings, and dress were about $2000 so all in it was under $5K which is CHEAP for a medium sized wedding, and we didn't owe a dime afterwards! 😁

It's a bit harder now. Catering costs are much higher and usually the bulk of the budget. People also don't want to do things for free or cheap anymore unless you are a very good friend because the cost of living is much higher and they are constantly asked by entitled people to do things for discounts. Backyards are also much smaller or non-existent. But I do agree there should be a compromise about the kind of wedding you want before you go ahead and plan it. And you can get discounts by lowering your expectations on the cake, buying a dress off the rack, having the bridesmaids pick their dress in a certain colour, making some of your own decorations, minimising your bouquet, hiring fewer cars etc.

@@MsJubjubbird I still feel bad about the catering by El Pollo, it was unbelievably inexpensive at around $400. But, I had no idea I was supposed to tip the servers before they left. I did learn soon after, and the following week I went back to the store, and gave them $150 tip. I had no idea they were going to stay, and dish up the food I paid for. Yeah, I would bet the catering is Quadrupled now, but still considerably cheaper than hiring an actual caterer to feed your guest filet mignon, and such. Even back then, a wedding our size at the Mission Inn, fully catered by the Inn with the cheapest menu would have been $30,000. OML, I wonder what it is now? 😁👍✌ P.S. Our cake was $120, and one of the best tasting cakes I have ever had. The bouquet was like $75, everything just seemed to go perfectly, I couldn't have asked for more.

@@TOM-C. I live in another country so the costs are not comparable but even if you ordered everyone a take away- say eighty people-, it would be a few thousand dollars here. And they won't serve it. And we don't even tip people that much. Plus it would be much harder to do these days as there are a lot of regulations about bringing in outside food because food safety laws have toughened over the years with advances in scientific knowledge. Other than that it is bad for their business, they don't know where it's come from or how it is prepared so they could be in big trouble with the health regulators. Then there's alcohol and licensing laws mean you can't bring your own. Expect half of the costs to go to food and wine these days. You don't have to pay thousands for a cake though, unless you want a designer one. I think a bouquet costs about ninety dollars here but you can do it cheaper if you do it yourself or want something smaller. For my friend's wedding we bought flowers cheap and did them ourselves. Photography costs about 5 k and that's not something you can skimp on and neither is the DJ- they and their students get influencers asking for free work all the time so they don't do free anymore. DO your own hair and make up.

@@MsJubjubbird Yeah, food has gone exponentially up since we got married. The same fast food chicken place we catered from is likely closer to $4000 now for 80 guests. I don't recall how many people I catered for, I think it was 50 though more showed up than we expected. We have different laws in the US, and brought our own liquor supplied by my in-laws. I'm not including some of the things we had to buy in my $1500, like invitations $100, Our photographer was my close friend who had paid weddings under his belt, so that was free. Everything worked out perfectly as though someone was looking down on us.😁👍✌
