I watched this live and it was so nuts. The first 3 games were some of the cleanest PvT I've ever seen, then Maru just won 4 in row. Even if Trap choked, the mental fortitude to come back from 0-3 in a Bo7 still makes Maru's win crazy imo.
I went away for 30 minutes when Trap was leading 3-1. When I came back I saw the "Stream ended 5 minutes ago" so I naturally assumed Trap closed it out comfortably and didn't give the match any afterthought. I only found out about this video today.
The only thing better than Maru in this series was Tastosis, man, I watched them for years and years now and they keep managing to make me laugh out loud, stellar job guys!

Watching game 5 made me think back to Day9's most recent yt video: "When your opponent is doing something weird, sometimes the best decision is to just grab all your units, and go fucking kill him."

There was no way trap should of lost that, like 9 batterys over there, he would never have broken it and would continuously take chip damage, he just needed to be more patient, he even had 2 base vs 1! Glad Maru won though
Trap was lost already that mistake was the last nail on coffin. Trap had already lost his workers and couldnt touch Maru's. He had to get loose from battery to hit workers and cant go sideways. So Trap should have finished what he had started minutes ago.
Hey Trap my son is a huge fan of yours. Anyway over the past few days of watching you play this game hes got much better at playing baseball (he plays in the 11-13 year old division). I just wanted to stop by and thank you for teaching him how to throw so well.
Has 80 shield batteries... Let me run all my tempests as far left into the map as I can so that they are out of range of literally every shield battery.
@@bardfall9555 I did, instead of finishing off cyclones, the CC, or production buildings at range, he literally almost sat himself in the enemy mineral line as far as possible away from the shield batteries lol. That game was his, and he chose to throw it away, I don't know what point you are trying to make
@@135791max that was his mistake but I don't think he could win it. The vikings were at his base so he had no mining while Maru was still continuing. The vikings were near critical mass where they could take on the tempests even over shield batteries. Even if Trap didn't have his tempests killed a few more minutes and Maru would have broken out of the blockade after he adds more vikings. The distance between the two mains is too short that the vikings could put a stop to Trap's mining and still be back to defend.
@@N0noy1989 What do you mean? He has his probes, and he now had a nexus where his shield battery spam was. And he also still had his stargate and proxy buildings. Him losing his main was an inconvenience there. Conversely, if Trap played it smart, I am pretty sure Trap just guts all of the production of Maru altogether, and hides safely in layers upon layers of shield batteries. And yes, he would still have plenty of mining at Maru's natural. Also, while you mention critical mass for vikings, there was also a lot of tempest. Enough where at the end, if he didn't throw them away, would have one shotted viks, and probably taken 2 or 3 before the main engage. And the vikings were not that numerous where that would not have made a big difference in a battle over the shield batteries. If instead of playing idiot, he killed the production, like the stargate, and played safe, I do not see how trap could possibly have lost that game.
@@135791max they’re SHIELD batteries, not life batteries. Moreover, he didn’t see Maru’s vikings coming back. The Tempests were out and they move slowly. Even he got them back in range, they have NO GROUND BACK UP.
The creativity Maru showed in pulling out these wins is so underrated. Maru was like, "OK, if I play by the book, he's beating me straight up. Time to throw out the book and do crazy things." Like normally Maru is always about bunkering and beating you strategically in the long game. The games he won were all surprise and disruption.
16:11 Tasteless mentioning an Artosis pylon but being sensitive not to call it that, then Artosis saying you can just kill all the buildings around it instead, but noticing Tasteless was talking about an Artosis pylon becuase he says "it's the opposite"

It's a misplay but not a throw. Trap could have flew them towards the batteries but he already burned his overcharge. So, even with batteries healing, vikings plus lockons can still one-shot tempests, while tempests are struggling to kite back against vikings. Even if Trap did the right move and flew towards the batteries, the army composition matchup (8 vikings, 3 cyclones, 6 marines versus 6 tempests plus one sentry that doesn't even have guardian shield energy left) is heavily favoring Maru for that engagement.
@@ziweiwang1127 i really hope it wasnt a throw but game looked sus af. trap spotted vikings flying back couldve easily repositioned before getting trapped. all trap needed to do was contain and win. just pick off attacking units one at a time. he dont need to hit buildings. by the time terran has enough to retake natural trap can recall workers and army. maru would also be resource deficit that was pretty much a guaranteed win.
@@joonjoon819 im not saying it is and I hope not but these guys are top of the top level players. even mid tier players can spot a building at the edge of vision and can react on the fly based on what they see. he saw the vikings coming back from a mile away
*H O L Y S H E E E E T!!!!* The only thing that can match this are the commentators. I wonder if Maru and trap watch the replay with comments and laugh their asses of as we do :-D
Even if Trap flies over the batteries his overcharge is used, most of his tempests have a lot of hull damage from barely keeping them alive repeatedly, and all his probes had only just arrived and started mining again in Maru's expansion. Those tempests are likely going down either way, the probes are going to follow. Maybe Trap does enough damage to Maru's army to reset the situation if he flies over the batteries, but it's definitely not a guaranteed Trap win. Also the post-match interview is another must see moment. Even when Maru gives up he wins.
This entire matchup was such a "rubbing salt on an open wound" moment for Trap. Imagine losing the hard-earned dominating 3-0 lead and then lost the decisive game to a fucking cheese.
@@artanis5163 Agreed, Trap tried to cheese out a quick win to close out the series when he completely didn't need to.. You could see his mental state failing the longer the match went on.
@@artanis5163 Except that he did play the same way he did in game 2, with DT drop. And game 1 was a triple oracles from proxy Stargate, not sure how that is not cheese build.
What a heartbraker especially knowing Trap's GSL history. He clearly has some mental blockages, trying to close out the series with cheese again and again instead of sticking to his macro game that worked like a charm in the first three games.
Game 1: Win with superior army. Game 2: Win with superior army. Game 3: Win by clicking scan. Wow many skill such micro such strategy. Terran having such an easy time against cheese while being able to win games instantly with their own cheese is such horsepoo.
