We are getting a 9 week old rottweiler puppy in 2 weeks time. I've taken a few days off, my partner has taken a week off. She has also reduced her work down to 3 days a week, and comes home for her lunch. I start early, and finish early. She starts later and finishes later. We have taken this very seriously, I don't know why people don't. My last rottweiler made it to 16, and would love time alone when I was at work.
You, Daniel, are a wonderfully dedicated owner!!!!! You are taking this seriously, because these first few months are critical in a pup’s development. And to have a Rott live to 16, WOW!!!! You are definitely doing the right things. And Daniel, you may want to look up “The Old Grey Muzzle Tour”. It is an ongoing research program in the US and Canada that is working to figure out how some Rottweilers live to such advanced years. It studies Rotts who have reached the age of 13. They do necropsies on each dog. One of the very interesting things they have found in some of these Rotts is that they have various forms of cancer (in one dog 4 different kinds) that have been totally walled off by the dog’s immune system and not allowed to grow and metastasize. It is super interesting.
Crate training went absolutely superb. Little man seemed like he already knew the assignment before I even lured him he walked straight in first time he seen it and fell in love after first meal time
I grew up with 2 rotties and they did just fine when we all had to leave out for the day (my parents worked and my brother and I going to school) but that's because when came home, we loved on them and played with them. We did have to buy cages bc they'd eat our mom's clothes when left alone but when we got home, they came upstairs with us and we'd do our homework on the living room floor and they lean on us and we'd pet and play and then before dinner we were outside or in the playroom with them. Literally let them know they're loved and cared for and they'll adjust to your schedule. I've never been around bigger babies. Had one for 12 years before arthritis took out his hind legs and started to affect his quality of life (poor baby couldn't climb the stairs without being carried) and we had to put him down.. And our other one made to almost 14 before he got liver cancer. Though, I really think it started going downhill after his brother passed...he spent a good month just howling and sleeping in corners after we had to let his brother go...it's been like 5 years and I still miss them every day. My mom won't even get another dog, but I want one. And a rottie is definitely my first choice 🥰🐶
this made me feel so so soooo much better!!!! I wanted a rottie since I was a kid. I now finally have the chance, but my work days leave me out for 9 hours. I wanted to make sure having a dog walker stop by once during the day was ok. otherwise my desire to have a rottie was squashed. so glad I came across this video!
That's how I did the bench training and outside training. Letting them outside or in their bench till they are quite for 15 minutes long. Then reward them. After that I just build it up.
For the curious. My rottie runt grew up to be about 150 lbs of muscle at his peek. He is 8 and slowing down. He is around 130 lbs and had torn both of his rear knees years ago. No surgery just time and he fully recovered. I think he has a good bit of arthritis from his back leg injuries.
We have left our Rottie home alone since he was 3 months. Never crated. He made a few mistakes when he was young, like eating carpets and baseboards, etc...He enjoys his alone time but loves when we get home. Soe dogs love crates. Some hate them. You will realize early on. We bought an XL crate and the cover and bed. 250$ american. Loki never went in it once. No matter the coaxing.
Loki was house trained in a weekend with only one accident. Piss! Rotties are brilliant, very adaptive dogs. My wife and I did take a week off work when we got him at 8 weeks. Plus our teenage sons were home for 3 months with him. Rotties Rule!!!!
Oh yes!!! They are just hysterical dogs! They know how to use humor when their owner is having a bad day. And mine always seemed to know how to use it to “break the ice” with people who were unsure about them. Strong, super intelligent, devoted, loving, goof balls. They are the best breed ever!!!!

I had 2 young dogs, one a Rottie and an Amstaff that nobody wanted. I had never heard of crates if I had to leave the house to go to work. I came back one evening and these 2 had obviously had a great time in my absence. They had worked hard and shredded my salary slips and even chewed many of my beloved vinyls. If only I had heard of crates !!!
We have our new puppy Enya, honestly watching this and your show has super helped massively, although not my first time with a puppy this is my first time with a Rottie. Honestly she’s adorable and the best puppy so far with all your advice implemented in her daily routine Thank you so much for all your knowledge. Keep doing what your doing 🤟🏼
I know also if people have a nice yard they may want to leave them out while gone. But if the puppy is small I know I have to worry about coyotes, bobcats, hawks, and owls in the early morning or evening. My sister also has more predators like foxes, possums and skunks. My friend in town has an extra worry , pups are friendly and a not so nice person could come over your fence and steal a young dog easily.
I have a 6 year old male rottie and 8 year old Jack Russell we leave ours in the house about 6 hours a day when at work my wife leaves mid-morning but I also take them on rides about 2-mile round trip they follow me on the quad every other day I live on a farm and just feel safer with them in the house THEY ARE SOO SPOILED AND ARE MY BABIES
What is the best amount of time to start leaving your pup alone? How do you build this up gradually? Is 6 hours ok once the dog is a year old? Specifically thinking about the Rottie. I plan to take 6 months of work when I get my puppy.

I have been researching like crazy, I am a first-time owner and live in a large apartment. I work from home 4 days of the week. I have access to nearby fields I am very keen on Rottweiler. Is this a crazy idea ? PS love the channel
I have a four month old rottie.ive left her like twice in the whole time ibe had her and thats been for two five minutes. Would love some advice on not feeling guilty because shes not house trained properly yet.shes getting professional help from a dog trainer but im scared to leave her 🥺

Hi there! I have a girl Rottweiler Ivi which is 18 months old and i leave her everyday -for 8 hours and sometimes more -with my two other girls Roxanne a ten year old Labrador and Regina a miniature Dachshund .. Recently she started destroying things and everyday i return home from work i cone up with something new ..any ideas? PS .i cannot leave her with a treat-like to chew cause im afraid they may fight over it .
NP ... just feed him a burglar on regular basis ! 😉 ps: 8 hours a day alone ?! Sorry that's unacceptable to me, no matter how many crate's you put them in. 3-4 hours MAX. I do not even know where to begin explaining this is NOT how to 'own' a dog.
@@nokisgp Yep ... like me ... I take 'm along, or take time for a walk. I found it suprising myself that all understand. Several employers told me to take 'm with me to the office, and others had no problem that I had a longer break ... Try it ! 😏

I did once they were 2-3 yrs old. Before that I had a pet sitter come in. And still did a couple days a week when they were older. But we walked every morning before work. And every evening after work. We went to classes every week. We lived on a property that had an old farm pond. So they could swim. And my dogs did awesome
