Wow! Surprising results from the peanut butter. Might have to try this on some really dried out door panel trim.

I usually use clean automatic transmission fluid. Plastic is made out of petroleum and over time the oils get dried up and cause it to fade. You just need to add oil back to the plastic. (Or bring up oils to the surface of the plastic by heating it up) I've always used petroleum-based oils because I've never thought of using a plant-based oil to restore plastic. I do like this test though. Might need to go to the store and get some peanut oil tonight😀

Like I always say if you don’t try it even if it sounds Crazy we’ll then you won’t know if your Crazy idea just might work!! I actually tried Boiled Linseed Oil that you would use for woodwork restoration and amazingly it did and awesome job!! It lasted for a while and beaded up when it rained but like any product it Didn’t last Forever!!

To restore old plastics my father said he used oil in the old days. With that said the peanut butter can restore it because of the oils in it. BUT the oil will attract a lot of dust when it does it is really hard to wash off. Soo you would be better with the plastic restoring bottle.

You mentioned that the heat gun may have worked better at a different temperature, but didn’t say what your heat gun’s max temp was... Do you have a suggestion on what temperature would be best for this application? And, you didn’t say which kind of peanut butter was best... No, not dropping brand names here, just wanna know if it should be creamy or crunchy? Haha! Thanks for doing the experiments to show the various ways the trim can be restored. It was informative and entertaining.
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 3 года назад
Creamy is defiantly the way to go. 🤣 I would say trial and error with the heat gun. The one we used is a very inexpensive gun. It just takes time. Thank you for checking out the video. If you need auto parts go to: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-Now
@valichesu

The main difference is that the area treated with the heat gun will last much much longer than peanut butter and plastic restorer. Of course it takes longer with the heat gun, but you save time not applying the restorer/dressing after each wash.
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 3 года назад
I'm sure you are right. We just needed a hotter heat gun. Thank you for checking out the video. If you need auto parts go to: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-Now

Neat video. However you missed out on really making this useful for folks. With the expense of buying a replacement, most of us are willing to do 2-3 runs with a product. Would have been excellent to show what doing the extra passes and then a wash and maybe protectant coat would end up looking like. Don't like criticizing people who actually make videos, however it seems a waste when they only give 80%. That extra 20% of doing a couple of run throughs like here is what most people are going to do, and might end up totally different. I would have done the PB and compound a couple more times, then a good wash and wax or protectant. More than likely although we all would love to see PB finish first, just because, I expect once its been exposed to some rain and the oils have run or baked off in the sun, it may be worse than the compound.

So what if the PB isn't "made for this"? Its peanut butter. What would you rather breathe afterwards? More chemicals being released into the air OR .....?

"Liked" and "Subscribed". Thanks for sharing this video. I'm wondering how good the panel looks after washing the entire panel. I would think after leaving the peanut butter sit on it for a day or more that it will come out the best after a wash as well. :)

I tried the peanut butter method, and it did look much better. But after a few minutes, flying insects and other creepy crawlers started to come around my car, sniffing it with great curiosity trying to find the mysterious delicious-smelling snack. Obviously, they got worked up by the peanut butter, and since I live here in hot, humid, bug-infested Florida, well, I'm just going to buy some trim product at my local auto shop and put the peanut butter on my bread. Let the insects eat cake!

Instead of using peanut butter just use peanut oil instead, that's all your doing with the peanut butter anyway and no smell. I might have to try it just to see how it works and how long it will last.
