@5:38 - Gianni Vio was an offensive set-piece coach. He didn't do defensive set pieces. The issue is defense where 14 goals have been conceded in some form. Still not the worst team in the league and even Villa have conceded more... Just needs to be much better.
I agree with much of what is discussed in this pod, its very measured. You bring up a good point about Gianni Vio, I think as fans our set-piece defending is appalling (3rd worst in the league before Sunday and 3rd worst at attacking from set pieces) and where our biggest frustration lies. If we just improved in this one area (not even to an elite level just mid table improvement on set pieces) then we would have potentially 10 more points, that makes us outside challengers still!!! There is still much to be done on building the squad but everything I've seen in the big picture is very, very positive.
Maybe if Arsenal had 2 weeks to prepare and Spurs had 4 matches in the preceding 2 weeks with lots of pressure on this game, maybe Spurs wouldn't have looked so good. Why do you think Chelsea looked so good against an exhausted City last weekend?
As an Arsenal fan, Ange has been class. I have found myself respecting Spurs slightly because of him. I look at Liverpool with admiration because of Klopp, and Ange carries the same level of Charisma that makes me appreciate even little things like derby day pettiness. If Spurs get rid of him, it would be laughable but the man is certainly class and has them playing in a manner that even I am weary of, dare I say even entertained by. Urgh, that felt horrible to write!
@@alexkcchung the big problem he has is no tricky wingers... in all his squads he had weapon wingers who scared their defender to the point they wouldnt go forward... he desperately needs that in his team atm. Teams are happy to sit off spurs as they cant score. They arent scared of them.
I agree they are better to Watch, that being said I’m not sure he is tactically inclined enough to be able to push his team to the top. He plays his way and teams are working him out. If he does not change then he will be found out.
Word. If I were Jim Ratcliff, I’d try and poach Ange from Spurs. Even if it costs millions and selling a first born to Levy. And if that offer does come, Ange must take it. Spurs are going to chew him out. Their level of ambition is measured by wanting to stick it to Arsenal. It’s in the DNA. He can’t do anything, and they don’t deserve him.
they have an anti arsenal bias.. look how long it took them to finally admit that arsenal is decent. then with spurs from the beginning of the season they were so convinced by ange and the quality of the team, meanwhile since matchday 11 they have displayed midtable form.
If that game was replayed 10 times, Spurs are winning more than 5 times. If you watched the game, reviewed the stats and xG, there is _no_ _way_ you can say Arsenal weren't lucky and Spurs were unlucky. Credit to Arsenal, I'm just saying quit this basic narrative of "Ange needs another way to attack". Please analyse matches with more depth logic and less about "outcome bad, therefore team bad".
When you perform well for just 10 games at the start of the season, it's called a New Manager Bounce. They never last and aren't indicative of any long-term progression.
The two weeks off doesn't help spurs. The lack of games during the season has gone against players searching for consistency. The terrible first half starts seem to be symptomatic of the lack of sharpness and match conditioning. You can see the players trying hard to find form and second guessing themselves, hence the lack of bravery. I'm skeptical THFC can finish the season strongly.
was the league in this same state when arteta took over? chelsea in disaray, united as a mess, newcastle unable to build on from what they had last season, brightons collapse, west ham being poor etc. the middle of the table has had sheningans this season, spurs could easily be 9th had some of their opponents been less injury riddled and generally less poor.
@@homelessdude5705 and why did he arrive? were arsenal looking like they were about to have an amazing season? this is legit is first season with a squad mostly of his own desired players, arsenal had done a massive clearout, and the prem was more top heavy back then. look at the state of chelsea, united, and even honestly spurs right now verses spurs back then.
@@zavtradnem I like that he doesn’t make excuses. He acknowledges where his team and he failed and he praises where the opposition outclassed them EVEN though he could easily have pointed to both the offside VAR and possible pen issues as excuse (see Ten Hag as exhibit A - that mofo is STILL talking about Garnacho SA’s offside goal against arsenal 😂 what a noob)
Here's a better question: what if we come out if the Chelsea match with a draw or close loss but NO injuries and suspensions? THAT'S what killed the momentum, not outsized expectations.
So Villa who don’t have FFP issues would sell one of their better players to a team that will probably finish below them? Very hit and miss with the analysis at times. So contradictory.
have you noticed their spurs bias. it makes no sense. they are convinced by the ange project in a few games, with arsenal and arteta even last season they didnt believe it, even as this season started they were so quick to dismiss arsenal until like february. its very bizzare. even their analysis on united is very like eh, i find united fans are actually more insightful, or just watching the games.
Its not that Spurs are too structured and need mavericks, its that they only have ONE structure. You're blaming the players for not being spontaneous like your Center back recing to be a striker, leaving a massive hole in your back line isnt a a good thing and could've gone horribly wrong. There's no helping spurs fans honestly
Wait, spurs unlucky? No. Their goal was offside, and Kulu knew he wouldn't get the penalty. Spurs first on target was our error to their goal. We deserved to win, 3-0 first half, and errors were gifted.
Media darlings. Always have been, always will be. Probably because they're back to being entertaining without anyone being even slightly worried they might actually win something 😂
all the videos they had about the NLD have been framed around spurs, even the one they released before the game. idk if spurs is paying the athletic or what. and also its often clear they dont watch a lot of the teams they may often talk about. i remember they were talking about johnson as if he isnt all that good which is absurd, especially given his age, and his numbers aren't too bad, especially considering the way they have changed around their frontline throughout the season.
He will need a tricky proper world class winger... maybe the young swede might come through... but he needs a 20 goal striker, needs new FBs, another 6 who good on the ball. He should go for Sancho.
Amazing how much criticism Ange is getting…don’t forget Klopp or Arteta’s first EPL position. We lost Kane ffs, have a new GK, new defence and new midfield, and we are already competing for top 4, despite the video’s title… Klopp, Arteta & Pep have ALL benefited from having their own system and tactics developed over time (and persisted with!). Yet we lose and the media shouts our system is broken and we need a plan B 🤦🏻♂️
Stop comparing klopp first season which wasn't even first full season as he joined in november. liverpool squad was very poor compared to current spurs and we had european football which they reached final of. ange had full week rests for last 6 months
Bot drom Athletic, last pod discussing Villa was 50 minutes of them saying we had no chance against Arsenal. Then never to mention us again, even when discussing how Arsenal's chances were at risk of been derailed by the result @dharris-rd2md
@@Amberle38 This wasn’t really praising spurs and there’s plenty out there bigging up villa. Either way, it’s still insecure to whine about it under a spurs video.
Don’t get the narrative that spurs were unlucky. Arsenal literally gifted all their goals, and had more chances to score. Romero hit the post. That’s it.
Yeah Romero missed 2 free headers, a goal narrowly ruled out and a possible pen all in the first half. That's as many chances as Arsenal had in the whole game, they simply took their chances.
I emplore any one to find a Spurs fan who wants to make a "statement" win against City. The whole crowd will applaud City goals if it keeps Gooners from the title.
It’s not better than Klopps first full season. Klopp came to a team in mid-table in late October, it’s not comparable stop peddling this fake narrative. Arsenal fans did it with Arteta and now you are doing it with Ange.
You mean the team that is 5th with 2 games in hand, that was in pole position for 3rd last year until the Conte drama started and finished top 4 the previous season…. Of course they are as Ange is god or the 2nd coming of Pep according to the pundits on the Athletic this season, if they aren’t then Ange isn’t that great…
This was a terrible Chelsea team with 70% of their first team out injured and we hardly laid a glove on them!.. A pathetic performance…. It’s so obvious that the team are now struggling to buy into Ange’s tactics. There’s not creativity in attack, the midfield are nonexistent or tripping over each other because they don’t really know where they should be, and the defensive play it quite literally Sunday league stuff!.. And all this with what is in my humble opinion a good squad of players!.. Especially defenders!.. Ange keeps telling us they don’t have many matches, well why the hell isn’t he working with the team to irradiate the most basic of issues?.. I’m sorry to say and obviously would love to be proven wrong but I feel the Premier League is a stap too far for “Ange-ball”!..
Vio only did attacking set pieces by the way not defensive. Mila sucks at his o job he is one dealing with defensive cost us maybe 10 points we 3rd worst in league
What about Arsenal? One lucky own goal due to Højbjerg being thrown off balance by Tomiyasu and Saka's goal resulted directly from a Michael Oliver brainfart.
