A few months ago, there was an interesting article in the New York Times about how the more variables in a system, the more unpredictable the results. Such as with a model with 2 factors, the results are fairly predictable, but with 3, things get very wonky. So with 4 realistic GC contenders, I’m suspecting that not the best rider will win, but it’s impossible to predict

@recrevs963 7 месяцев назад
need to find article and in essence i agree with your statement, just that with cycling it is never more than 3 dudes really for TdF win. there are usually no surprises there. like one surprise could have been when egan won when the stage was shortened on the road to tignes or 3rd favorite, nibali destroying the field in 2014 after froomey and conti abandoned.... even when G won it was expected as his form was at peak and froomey just came off of winning giro so was tired.

@@recrevs963 Hi, the article is called The Terror of Three’s in the Heavens and Earth, from June 26th, 2023 and written by William J Broad. It starts with a discussion that Newton having difficulty when a 3rd factor is added to describe nature. This article goes from there into human/country relations and military planners. For me, if I was placing a bet (I’m not), I’d be tempted to take the field against anyone podium. Just as you said, accidents, illness or bad days can change a race.

Yellow is still fairly easy to predict, because there aren't realistic 4 contenders imo. Vingegaard and Pogi are a step ahead of everyone else with also the best support. All hte other jersey are not clear because there are really more than 3 contenders.

The real determining factor is how good Vanmol's form is in the off season and 2024. He means everything to Remco and the QuickStep boys.

Agree, Remco Giro just makes sense. Van Wilder should go for KOM jersey at TDF, Landa can top 10 and Merlier should get his wish to sprint on the big stage.

If you repeat the broadcast, may I repeat my comment? Remco will be even stronger in 2024 due to acquired GT experience and another 15-20km in his young legs.

This year is surely the one to do Giro Tour double if you can. Especially since it is a Giro 'Lite' course and most the key stages for the Tour victory come in the last 2 weeks, with the exception of the opening stages where you can lose everything with bad luck and the gravel stage.

Where-ever he starts, ANY race he's riding will be an exciting race. TDF 2024 is "incontournable" (a must) though, LBL almost certain. TDF he is able to win, because you never know what"s going to happen,

I think it is very possible remco could win the Giro or Vuelta multiple times during his career. But he will probably need pog and Jonas to drop out of a tour to ever win. Not to mention the next generation coming up.

i think in the case of Nibali he would have also had a great chance to win if Froome and Contador didnt crash out. he was so good that tour, the best version of nibali in his whole carreer. look at how much he had ahead of the number 2. but in Evenepoels case i doubt its possible to improve that much to be on the level of pogacar and vingegaard. so he will need them both to crash out and then still he will have a problem with his own consistancy (since he has never had a 3 week race without bad periods, even when he won the vuelta) and with Roglic.

Remco vs Pogacar in the Giro might be an interesting battle, but they are both conceding to Vingo in the TDF by going to the Giro. They might both be off of the podium in the TDF for their efforts in the Giro. It is also going to be interesting to see the wily veteran Roglic against the youngster Vingo at the TDF. Jumbo has a stronger team, but without WVA, they may not be dominant.

No, but who cares? Win a stage or two, get involved, race hard Remco. But do consider doing what Chris Horner was talking about at the Vuelta once he was out of it on GC, ride with the top guys, see what they do and how they do it. Then reset for the '25, 26 Tours, and get some fresh blood in that know about racing 3 week Tours.

wouldn't say 0% but chances are slim (under 5%) with the other 3 dudes contesting it. things with health, peak performance and some lady luck need to fit together in order for him to win. still don't trust him enough on consecutive high mountain passes in comparisons to other 3 dudes. as long as pundits come july don't give me a list of 10 people that can win it I am cool with remco being an option... more than 3-4 guys on the list something is wrong and i am switching the channel.

Pidcock is doing to much ! Pidcock should focus on 1 thing and than he can realise great things ! BTW Remco have no problems with high mountens , he is a top climber . If Vingegaard and pogacar attacking in the mountens Remco will ride his own tempo and will eventualy catch those 2 up ;-) . You know what they say: if 2 dogs fight for 1 bone the thirth one is riding with it home 😉. Remco will have not a lot of stress because he have a good luitenant (Landa)now AND Remco dont have to prove nothing annymore... Last week in the vuelta 2023 remco was riding everyboddy home every day . They give NO presents in big tours also not in the vuelta 2023....

As good as Remco is he’s not good enough to win the TDF . I think he’s too young and doesn’t have that killer instinct yet . Yes he may develop in a few years and if he’s doing too many races but his team is also not good enough.

Too young sadly isn't a good excuse if you look at the age of the last 5 winners of the Tour. But yeah, maybe Remco will develop and become as strong as Pogi and Vingegaard but I have my doubts (especially about long hard days in the mountains). He's of course still one of the great riders currently.

Everything is possible. Michael Mørkøv and Fabio Jakobsen could win the Tour. It is just extremely unlikely and everything has to go horrendously wrong for the entire peloton and go perfect for them. The same for Remco although the possibility is a lot bigger for him. But baring major accidents, illness and bad luck to the major contenders like Vingo, Pogi, Roglic, Yates, Hindley and a couple more, he won't win the Tour.
