The "souvenir Jacques Goddet" is always awarded at the top of the Tourmalet, or the highest point in the Pyrenees if the Tourmalet is not part of the race. Similarly, the "souvenir Henry Desgrange" is always awarded at the top of the Galibier, except when it's not part of the race and is then awarded at the highest point in the whole tour.

Regarding stage 19: Iseran is 2770 Stelvio is 2757 Agnello is 2744 But the road in Sierra Nevada goes almost all the way up the peak of Pico Veleta at 3398 meters. For the adventurous, there's actually an unpaved south side; Capileira is the final village and quite soon the road turns to gravel. I'd guess the pass is somewhere in the 3000-3100 meter range. Highly recommended, I had the pleasure of climbing it from the south many years ago.

I was on holidays in les Cabannes (foot of Plateau de Beille) like a dozen times. Plateau is a very steady climb, that gets easier at the end, comparable to Alpe, but a bit longer. Jonas has to attack with 5-6 k to go, there it has about 9 % for a good amount of time. What i wanna add, Agnes, the climb before, is brutal in the sun, in the first few kilometers, sun shines right on your head and in the afternoon, it can feel like 40 degrees there, with no wind at all. Might really fatigue the riders. Even though, it's often raining there, but then there would be spice aswell, wouldn't it;)... All in all, i'm really loking forward to this stage!!!

The Valloire stage can be really tricky. Wind can be a factor on these less steep but very high altitude climbs. Also the last section of the Galibier is steep (from Lautaret) so not just high altitude. It was very tricky back in 2011 when they finished the stage on the top of the Galibier. If Visma smells blood it can be very similar what they did this year on the Tourmalet but more room for big tempo with high watts on the less steep slopes until the Lautaret

The obvious breakaway stage will be stage 18 Gap > Barcelonette. Other than that maybe the two stages in between Massif Central and Pyrenees. I think a strong breakaway like Le Creusot 2021 could somehow form on stage 1 to be honest, we will see lol. Puy Mary according to the TDF website the final km averages 14%... Key thing about that Bonette climb is the final kilometre, you are going up to 2800m and its 10% and higher. If Pogacar cracks then we saw how quickly a gap to Vingegaard can open on Ventoux / Marie Blanque / Granon in just a short amount of time. And it gets more concerning for Pog because I think Vingegaard can take time on that descent too, before we even reach Isola 2000. Re preparation for Tour: Dauphine almost always does a stage that replicates in some part one of the Tour de France stages (in 2022 they did Vaujany which followed the route of the Alpe d'Huez stage for the Tour, in 2021 they did Roselend via Col du Pre which was part of the Tignes stage, in 2020 they did parts of the Lyon stage of the TDF as well as climbed Madeleine which was before Loze that year.) Given this, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Dauphine stage that finished in SuperDevoluy or finished in Valloire after Galibier.
@henrikmadsen6446
@henrikmadsen6446 8 месяцев назад
Vingegaard might win the last three stages. Stage 19 are just so very attritional that Vingegaard is favorite because he is the best uphill. Stage 20 follows stage 19 so people might have blown up legs. Here Vingegård will follow until the last 2 km and he takes ½ a minute. 2023 showed that Vingegaard is a top 3 on a hilly TT in the last week just like like stage 21. So my shout is 3 win in row meaning another Tour win for Vingegaard.

Good evening! it's a very tough tour, I don't agree with this new way of making the first stages immediately hard, much less the last one. the first and last should be a prize for sprinters, but it is a category that is now gradually disappearing because it is no longer possible to be pure sprinters today. let's get to the route now, the Galibier in the fourth stage will do damage even if it is on the easy side. but when you climb above 2600m nothing is easy. I predict that the jumbos will start strong to have a buffer for the dirt stage where I consider Pogacar clearly superior to Vingegard. the weekend in the Pyrenees will be very tough, the two uphill finishes are real climbs. the central massif won't do much, the usual escapes and little else. the final weekend will be very tough. the isola 2000 stage will be entirely at altitude and I repeat there is no need for large slopes to create selection. Saturday's stage will be breathless and the final time trial will depend on what's left in the tank. I see Vingegard as the favorite as he always has a third week higher than Pogi, who will have to prepare specifically also because in the two time trials to date he is inferior and not by a little (great to increase the km of the tt after years of nothing) final opinion, pogacar should definitely do the tour of Italy which would give him depth, long climbs and high altitude, he would come out with a great leg and it would benefit the tour, I am against the bullshit that today it would no longer be possible to do the double, it's impossible if you start full throttle in February and have an intense spring. but if one plans the tour well it is feasible, for a great champion obviously.

Almeida is doing the Tour, that's almost a certainty (at least according to portuguese media), so it'll be interesting to see who UAE takes besides him and Pogi. Is Yates going again? I honestly don't think so. Pogi will be leader, Almeida will basically replace Yates (although a podium seems impossible imo), Majka seems likely, Politt and Bjerg for the flat... and Vine? Mcnulty? Soler? Sivakov? Fisher-Black?

Bjerg/Hirschi, Pollitt, Wellens, Soler, Sivakov/Yates, Almeida, Ayuso, Pogacar would be really strong and interesting team. Almeida pure domestique, while Ayuso would start as a shadowleader/2nd threat but if he loses some time early has to turn into a domestique rider. For UAE it can be interesting to for once be the one in the TdF to have a dual threat initially (even if it is unlikely to hold). Both Almeida and Ayuso indicated that they want to do that tour. Ayuso already did vuelta twice, so either Tour or Giro for him and Tour might be better (also longterm regarding experience)?

@@adrianbuck8772 Hey, Chris Horner is calling both UAE and Visma "knuckleheads" every year because they both CONSTANTLY make Le Tour more difficult than it needs to be. I do think Pog has matured in the last year or two, but he still gets his team to pace for him when it doesnt' really seem to benefit him, or because he wants to win early stages to prove his dominance, despite Jonas proving again and again that he is patient and waits to do the proving in Week Three after the other teams (and Pog) are more worn out than Visma/Jonas.

If Remco, Roglic or Pogi feel confident to win the stage their Team are gonna make it hard. Maybe Jonas still takes time on them. Thats life. If you think you have the upper Hand you go for it. And Pogacar up until this year did that sort of thing a LOT, and even the first week of the Tour this year, because he's full of himself (for good reason, but I think it hurts him in the long run), where he'll go for a stage win because he knows he can, not worrying about what it might mean for his legs--or, more importantly, his team's legs--two days later. And rules Horner has, like not leaving your leaders alone, make complete sense to me. Please explain to me how that no longer makes any sense because team tactics somehow are different now than they were a decade ago. (He's old, but it hasn't been as long since he won a Grand Tour as you might think from looking at him.)

@@adrianbuck8772 Jonas said before the Tour even started that the third week looks good for Jumbo and that's what the team was focused on. After Pog won early stages and picked up a couple of minutes, Jonas wasn't fazed one iota and said again that he and the team would have better legs than the others in week three, exactly what had happened the year before. UAE's DS should have been paying attention and not letting Pog dictate things so much. I mean, if they want to win. But they won the UCI points "race" this year, so they're okay. But if I were Pog, I wouldn't be okay. I'd want to be chasing that record that Armstrong got and was stripped of... He's maturing though, and racing a bit smarter. We'll see. Then again, Roglic is as well. Vingegaard has since day one. Van Aert does what he does. I hope he gets wins this year after being more worried about his expecting wife than the race last year. A wee bit distracted, I think. What he did in 2022 was as phenomenal as what Cavendish did the year before...

If Remco goes to the Giro, do you think it's possible Kuss can beat him?
@adrianbuck8772
@adrianbuck8772 8 месяцев назад
Kuss wont ride the Giro. Already said that he wants to defend the Vuelta GC and will ride for Jonas at the Tour. Even if he does ride the Giro and Remco does too Remco has an huge ITT advantage and Kuss wont get the 3+minutes advantage as the sole leader of his Team from an breakaway. So Remco should be the big favorite compare to Kuss.

That's why I was impressed with UAE getting someone on the podium with Pog at the Tour this year. I think Evenepoel said he wants to do fewer Classics and focus on 3-week training next year, and do the one-week high altitude preps like le Critérium du Dauphiné or the Tour de Suisse. I think Vingegaard did the former and Pogačar the latter this year.
