It’s no secret that our planet is running out of water. But… can recycling wastewater be the solution we need?
This episode of Spotlight looks at how cities are starting to turn to recycled sewage water to help keep the taps flowing - and why this solution is well, a little bit hard to swallow.
We’d love to know your thoughts on this topic! Let us know in the comments below.
Spotlight is a 12-part series on climate solutions created in collaboration with Earthrise and Bloomberg Originals.

In the UK we've thousands of gallons of sewerage water pumped into the rivers and coastal waters almost daily. Doesn't seem to be saving anyone except for the shareholders and bosses of the water companies

You mean sewage water that has been treated, correct?

One issue is I've tasted the water in London where it's recycled and it's horrible (Obviously not dirty just doesn't taste nice). Compared to the stuff I got where I live.

Do you get an algae aftertaste in it?!

Interesting stuff! I guess it's all a marketing game now to get people actually wanting to recycled water. Ik the issue of taste is also a problem with these plants, so probably fixing that as well

Is it not possible for clean water to be tasteless? Haven't they developed methods to eliminate the underlying source of the lingering aftertaste in treated water at a molecular level?

Call me naive but I thought that all waste water goes through the treatment plants (at least in Europe).
