Originally, we planned to have our FGC PROS nail Ryu's combos in Street Fighter IV. However, when we started to record, all we had were a bunch of chumps who play Smash!! They'll have to make do. Catch our SMASH PROS trying their best at some of the HARDEST combos in fighting games.

sf4 isn't really a game good for coaching lol, it's more of a learn yourself and get some pointers here and there. big difference between smash and real fighting games is fighting games support learning by yourself more than needing you're hand held for every step

@@blyat8832 well smash you can learn on your own though, the controls are just simple enough that you don't need to spend hours in training mode to learn combos and can be more free form. Most of the learning comes from actually playing others and learning from other people.

Smash and street fighter can both be learned by themselves, but traditional fg skill Carries over between games, unlike smash. every game can hold your hand but it's if you choose to let that hand be held

@@interceptingfist5682 Marss has a contrarian / inflammatory persona, as I understand it, and plays heel, which I get. Even then, it was just annoying to watch. Combo trials take a bit, but these aren't, like, KoF combo trials; you can grind it out in an hour or so if you just stick to it. Especially given the fact that the Smash has a ton of difficult execution to begin with, especially with ZSS, so there's more than enough dexterity and training ethic that carries over. Even if he found the combos hard, Marss knows that learning execution in a new game takes a bit but is doable, as he's done it before like any other top smash player. His attitude couldn't possibly be genuine.

Yes, and it was extremely validating to watch. All the fighting games I want to learn, like +r, require a tab in fucking dustloop to do. Fighting games are bad, and not because they are not fun once you figure out what you are doing, but because devs are lazy shitty bastards that want to court -casuals- new players but not actually teach them anything. People say "learn them by yourself" and the reality could not be further from the truth. Fuck trying to learn fighting games by yourself, when the very notation in the game is so insufficient, people with actual fighting game ability can't fucking do shit until they figure out how to actually do the inputs through trial and error. This ought to be fucking embarrassing for Capcom. Its proof that they suck at their job, and that almost everyone on the UX design team should be fired. It was more than just the shorthand, they didn't understand that its links only, _except supers, gotta love weird, unexplained exceptions to the rules,_ because the game doesn't explain shit.

Literally everything in smash is links, sometimes as small as 1 or 2 frames, so its not like this is even new stuff to these people. Street Fighter just sub 50IQ when it comes to actually communicating how it works.

Watching the one dude roast WaDi and WaDi struggling at first and then seeing that slowly transition into WaDi genuinely doing really well and enjoying himself while the dude who roasted him ended up doing pretty poorly and being super salty was truly a legendary saga. Bonus points to WaDi for managing all that on a keyboard. Also I loved WaDi's comment about Ryu having "short limbs" finally I feel like someone understands my pain as an fgc player!

@@blyat8832 that combo isnt 1 frame links those are more like 3 frame. 1 frame would require a plink where you press HK than mk it will take that HK was press twice like it was press togather. So if you go to training it will look like Hk than next input Hk and Mk together how you know doing it right. For Mk or MP have to do with LK for MK. The only trickist ones to plink is the lights.

What I was thinking. I can imagine they'd have more fun gatling in BB with Ragna or Jin than than trying to figure out the precise timings for each link. Having a very generous input buffer and way better instructions and teaching tools than in SFIV would also be great for them.

@@carldalord I wish I knew those people. In my experience (at least online), the common sentiment is "I play Smash because I don't need to study an encyclopedia in order to play." Like... who are these people _demanding_ that you _need_ to know how to do XYZ concept or tactic (I mean, there was that one stupid-ass comment from SkiSonic at a UMvC3 tourney, but that's the only thing I remember off-hand)? Sajam actually has a video about this - there's no bouncer in the game saying "Oh, you can't do this Shoryuken -> FADC -> Ultra I? Then fuck off." If you want to play the game, _just play the game._ It's then up to you, the player, to decide if you want to dig deeper or not. If you don't, that's fine and dandy, but don't get mad when/if you come across someone who _did_ dig deeper and then uses your head as a toilet brush. This goes for all fighters, including Smash.

WaDi doing as well as he did on Keyboard is impressive. Keyboard is HARD, that's a LOT of inputs compared to controller or stick. On keyboard AND completely blind? That was really impressive. Also GS to ESAM for actually completing all 24. People forget ESAM has won a FG tournament before. Now granted it was Divekick, but still!

Keyboard isn’t as hard as people give it credit for lol. More keys doesn’t matter anyway because you’re only using a portion of them. It’s all a matter of preference and being accustomed to something.

Keyboard is actually the easiest of the controllers they used. It's not as ergonomic as a leverless fighting game controller, but it's the next best thing.

This is an amazing idea. I feel like smash combos can be pretty difficult but due to the nature of the game there are no set in stone combos, so having the smash guys make them is a really good idea. Wong would definitely have to do ESAM's combos, I think he's the only one who could do Pika's harder combos.

@@olympian543 i agree with you all the way through. Most “combos” in the game are stringed and mind games play a huge role. There are some crazy combos though that they could definitely try. Im primarily thinking of drag downs into kill confirms or the classic luigi 0-death (havent played the game in a while so idk if it was patched out) when it comes to hard combos. I know a few of them have played but they didnt really get deep into it so it would be fresh like this video.

This video is a perfect example of how it feels to be new to fighting games. I can relate to this on a spiritual level, I was rooting for esam the whole through and was hype to see him complete it, as someone starting out, i know how daunting it is to just look at the combos and figure out how its even possible, or how hard it is to even get my fingers to even move a certain was for a simple 1, 1, 2 crouch 3 combo once.

SF4 actually does have shortcuts lol. They are really lenient with what counts. If you do double down forward, it counts as a shoryuken input. First one registers as forward, second one registers as the down and down forward. Punch after gives a shoryuken. There's lots of other weird examples as well but I don't want type that much

Fun video. Lots of laughs. Would watch something like this again. 2 things at Play here. Both are equally important. 1. This is a great indication of how much work is left to be done by fighting game developers in EXPLAINING HOW TO PLAY THEIR DAMN GAMES! 2. Lots of "This game sucks, I'm not doing anything wrong". That mentality when doing ANYTHING new, gaming related or otherwise, is terrible. It stifles productivity, growth, and fun. As much as it would be appreciated for Capcom to say "This symbol means press all 3 punch buttons at once", lots of people are all too unwilling to accept that they may also be at fault. Tpp quick to blame the game, the controller, whatever it is. Take minute to breathe, and think critically about the info you have. Try to figure it out. The game doesn't suck, and neither do. It's just different from what you're used to. Don't be the guy who goes to Thailand and gets frustrated that nobody is using a fork to eat noodles.

I know this one is a joke and some of the players went straight to the trials with barely knowing anything about the game but this is a reminder of how little information fighting games (on single player mode) give to the player I think things have improved but there's still a long way to go. A lot of new players try and quit this genre because of lack of information or because the info given is confusing to them

Yeah but these dudes were clowning as well. They refused to use the tools available to them for the longest Like bruh look up the command lists smh. No excuse for going halfway through the trials without knowing how to focus attack when it tells you how to do it Also, there are only 3 p/k buttons and all of them are labeled L,M,H so if a nee one pops up with 3p/k, then bruh, logic dictates that ya have to press all 3 If they would've checked their command lists, the 3p/k thing wouldve been a non-issue

There is a command list that tells you what input is each botton, tutorials that teach you game mechanics like parry, ex, block, countrr hits, etc. And finally combo trials that show you how to do combos. What else do you want buddy? Someone to hold your hand?!

They just don't have the mentality needed to do these kinds of things like ESAM does. It's not just about mindlessly mashing a bunch of inputs to get combos like this completed in SF4. There's a lot more intricate mechanics that you have to become familiar with. Though I doubt any of them other than ESAM could notice this as Ryu.

All of those are easy compared to UMvC3 Zero Buster Changing. That was harder than his Lightning Loops but ya gotta do BOTH at the same time for optimal combos To explain, ya gotta charge Zero's buster by holding down a L,M, or H (usually L) but you'll often need the button youre holding for combos, specials and neutral so ya gotta switch which button youre holding midcombo and remember to keep it held or the buster will fire thus ruining your combo Smash players have no idea what kind of executional insanity exists in fighting games

Fun fact. Street Fighter is one of the few fighting games that have an entirely link based combo system in modern day (might actually be the only one atm). Most of the other fighters use purely cancel based combo systems such as chain combos, which imo are a lot easier on timing.

Ultra trials means trials for Ultra, not the difficulty. They did pretty good and the wadi dude put a smile on my face. I dunno who the guy in the blue gamer chair was, but he sounds like the type of guy who's a regular contributor to scrub quotes. Everybody else was just a little frustrated, but did their best.

Little Z holding up a stock Sanwa version of the Mayflash F300 and going "this controller is shit", like buddy I feel that in my soul. I've literally never used a worse stick than the one that came in mine and it will absolutely fuck up even good execution sometimes. Best reason to buy a Mayflash stick is to put your own parts in an affordable housing IMO

@@paletapayasofan Nah, I mean the Sanwa ones, lol. They're pretty easy to tell apart because the Sanwa version is blue, the "Sanwa style" is red. In mine the "genuine" parts were noticeably lower quality than ones I've bought separately, but I'm also a Seimitsu fangirl and always felt like the JLF standard was too loose and had too much throw to begin with.

The Elite version comes with the blue buttons and lever you see there, which are authentic Sanwa parts but are noticeably lower quality than Sanwa levers and buttons I've bought separately. There's also the standard version with red buttons and lever, which are in-house parts produced by Mayflash to imitate Sanwa parts, and the imitations are also lower quality than authentic Sanwa parts you could buy separately. Basically, if you buy a Mayflash, you should buy your own parts and put them inside of it instead, because the quality isn't there regardless of the version.
