Are you looking for ways to strengthen weak voice? Do you believe that you can improve voice with diaphragmatic breathing when speaking? In this video, I will untangle several myths about the diaphragm when speaking. In my opinion, if someone says “speak from diaphragm”, it only leads to more confusion. This phrase does not really explain what it feels like or how to speak from your diaphragm exactly. What muscles should you engage? What muscles to relax? So, stop wondering how to speak from the diaphragm and improve your voice with more specific and effective exercises.

Gosh you seriously post things at the right time and I couldn’t be more grateful. I’m dealing with voice problems at the moment and would appreciate suggestions: A few months months ago(probably closer to a year now!) I commented on your video on muscle tension dysphonia. I mentioned I got tired super quickly from singing and sometimes had a lot of tension after talking sometimes. You said that getting tired as a beginner is normal, but the tension after talking worried you, but I didn’t bring it up to my parents because I had no professional opinion and my teachers didn’t mention anything. I finally switched to another voice teacher and right away she knew there was something going on. She sent me to an ENT and my vocal cords are fine. No nodules, no swelling or irritation from acid reflux (which I thought would be the case since I’ve had reflux since I was born). We were both relieved, but my teacher is still determined to find answers as to what’s causing my voice to tire out so quickly. She suspects muscle tension dysphonia and mentioned going to a doctor to examine my neck, but didn’t mention a specific doctor and I forgot to ask before the class ended. Is this a job for a speech therapist/ language pathologist or some other doctor?
@healthyvoicetips
@healthyvoicetips 3 года назад
To diagnose MTD takes a few people but yes, speech-language pathologist and a laryngologist would be on the team. I am glad that your teacher sent you to an ENT and is determined to help you! A voice therapist should be able to help.

Your description of the issue is right on the money. I blow out the air and then can count to 4 or 5. When I run out of air, I engage extrinsic throat muscles which then tires my voice and makes it feel tight. Then because my voice is tired, I engage my "Michael Jackson" voice which is light and breathy but am realizing this is only another bad habit that I have created to deal with my hoarse voice. I do feel the difference when my Vocal Chords close completely and when they are closing partially. When they close completely, I can speak and sing effortlessly. When they close partially, I am breathy and weak. I am currently working on SOVT exercises as you suggested in your other videos and hope this does relax my tired voice and even wakes up my sleepy voice in the morning. Hoping this will strengthen my voice.

@@capenterjojo3373 there are a lot of parts to your voice. Breathing is just one part. if you experience pain when using your voice, it can be your breath, it can be the vocal fold closure. I recommend looking at your voice from several perspectives. It's rarely one thing. it's a balance of many parts.

@@healthyvoicetips I need to know what exercises are helpful for retraining myself not to use my supraglottic muscles too much. I blow a straw into a cup of water and do a few exercises in the morning. I'm able to do it and noticed no throat tension. However, the tension always comes back throughout the day. The tension is worse when I subconsciously feel I need to speak louder. I'm trying to develop my social skills and feel somewhat handicapped.

I would look at the vocal fold closure, they may leak air and therefore have trouble counting to a higher number. And do some exercises to release tension from your torso.

Hello Ma'am. You're channel is really a treasure as I found it owing to a serious problem, and your tips really work. I feel that I've already improved my voice quality but still I'm seriously depressed with my problem. I've felt I'm patient of mutational falsetto, and I'm really lacking my social confidence and being mocked. I can't now afford to consult a speech language pathologist. I've found you very generous and much responsive to comments. So please recommended me some exercises of voice therapy or some vocal exercises to heal my high pitched voice. If you respond, that would be life changing for me. Genuinely Thank you.

There is an inexpensive vocal training course ($99.)…look up on You Tube Ken Tamplin vocal training. I have gotten this course and my voice is stronger. I can actually feel my vocal cords more flexible. It’s not just for singing..it’s a course also in addition to singing stronger, will repair your voice..or whatever problem you have with voice related issues, He gives some examples also, if you can’t afford the $99 course, you can search You Tube and see some examples which may help you if you practice daily. Hope this helps your voice.

I am sorry to hear about your problem. However, I am not an expert on mutational dysphonia and therefore I cannot offer help. Someone here recommended buying a cheap vocal program. That program is not meant for your vocal issue. Please speak to your doctor and find a way to speak to a voice specialist because your problem requires professional help. I wish you all the best.
