I learned that here in Northern Calif. how to water outdoor succulents during a heat wave: avoid watering when it is hotter than 85-90 degrees outside (during the day), instead water in the evening after dark when the temp is 75 or less. It’s very dry here so we don’t worry about rot. Normally I water at 6am, but I’m experimenting with watering mid-day as you suggested, Kat. Thanks so much! Bonnie

If the morning/ evening water works for you, you don’t have to change 😊Sometimes more than one approach will work. There’s so much fear mongering when it comes to midday watering in summer so i thought i’ll throw my 2c in on the topic 🙂

So I've learned from this video and experience that I have to keep a close eye on my succulents and be ready to make changes to their placement and watering as needed.

I'm in Northern California and its hot !! I must spend 45mins/day moving my little collection out of the direct sun then back again. Heat waves are a hassle !! Thanks for your info😊❤🌿

Heatwaves are the worst 😓 I'll be in the same boat in 5 months time- it's going to be brutal. Hope it's not much longer until cooler weather comes around for you 🤞🙂

Thanku for these practical tips. Here we get temperatures soaring well above 40 degrees. I water usually twice a week at night, i just take care to blow off water frm the crown esp in agavoides. I hv seen that d next day they get cooked if the water has not been removed. The rest usually fare better. Thanku

Yeah, it can be so annoying when the water doesn’t drain away from the middle 😅 it’s so hard when it goes over 40- hope you’re ok🥵

I live in Southern California and it has been over 40*C/104*F for more than a week now. I put up shade cloth on all off my plants that I planted in the ground but forgot some plants that where in pots. My aeoniums got cooked in this heat. 😞🥵 I was thinking of beheading them and see what happens.
@SucculentGrowingTips
@SucculentGrowingTips Год назад
Ohhh, that is some serious heat. I hate when the heatwave just won't bugger off 🥵 I can well imagine the Aeoniums as it happened to me as well in the past. I guess you can try and see what they do. They tend to be dormant in summer, so it may take them a while to root (sorry, hope i'm not plantsplaining what you already know 😅) If one of mine get the stems cooked in summer, i put them in a darker greenhouse with 60% shadecloth and they usually make it. Best of luck, hope a cool change is on the way for you 🙂💚
@edlynramos6812
@edlynramos6812 11 месяцев назад
What percentage of shade cloth did you use?
@SucculentGrowingTips
@SucculentGrowingTips 11 месяцев назад
I use 30% most of the time. If the temperatures are over 40c/104f and sunny for a few days i double up and put another 30% until the heat goes down. Hope this helps 🙂
