CAN'T BELIEVE I FOUND THIS AT A PULL A PART! WORTH $500

Today you come along with me to a pull a part / self service salvage yard where I found expensive BMW car parts. I show you the tools that I took and just a walk around of the junk yard where everyone can go and take off parts on their own. This is a good way to learn how to work on cars as well as see how things are on different cars. There are several national self service salvage yards like Pull A Part, LKQ Pick Your Part, Pick a part, and many more. It is much cheaper to pull your own parts then buying them from a salvage yard where you don't know how the parts were removed. When removing parts on your own, you can also save fasteners and miscellaneous brackets. Comment down below if you would like to see more videos like this!

Whatever I didn’t learn about e36/e46 from RU-vid I learnt from doing exactly this. Best part is you can take pictures of different stuff for later when you want to see how things changed between models and years. I sucks that a lot of decent cars I see are destined to become beer cans. I feel like saving all the BMWs lol

WOW! I needed that very same part for my e39 540i and had to go to LKQ for it. I couldn't find it anywhere locally online and like you said, the only place available was like Croatia. So I pulled it myself. I too didn't have the right part so this guy came by with his mini sledgehammer and banged it out for me (I gave him a few bucks). There are guys who can pull parts for you for money but it's always good to have your own tools because you never know. I miss going to Pick and Pulls. They're one of my favorite places.

We have a local Pick-a-part in Fredericksburg, VA. Haven't been there in a few months, but after seeing this vid, I am starting my list of items to grab next time I go lol. The yard I go to usually has a bunch of E46's available, but they don't have a system in place where we can get notified when a new car comes in. My friends and I just check the online inventory before we go, and usually end up finding more than what is listed online. Great video on junkyards and pick-a-parts. Good idea to bring the wheelbarrow with you just in case you have to haul parts haha.

I have 5 LKQs near me and have alerts set for all. The trick for airbags is to wrap them in a rag or two and put them at the bottom of your packed tool bag. I would happily buy them but they won't sell them. Lots of time for pigtails and small stuff they don't even charge. Also reassemble things, I had a 3-piece trim piece I reassembled, one large plastic trim piece is cheaper than 3 small trim pieces.

Pick-a-part yards are the best place to learn how to work on your car. Find your same model of car, and you can do anything to it to learn how it comes apart. I have a 2004 saturn vue and my local jalopy jungle has over 15 of them on any given day, so i go there and fiddle with them and find parts. There are a few items they charge too much for considering its off a well used car, but other than that the prices are great.

Nice precise tools are good to have, but if you aren't subjecting everything to daily hard use, hobbyist-grade stuff is usually quite sufficient, and the Harbor Freight cheapies of things you don't use much are usually a lot better to have than not. Usually you want to focus the best quality on things that need to be good under lots of stress. Anything else just needs to not-suck. (I've had to rebuild a lot of tools since I relocated and it's a combination of old stuff brought along or found in pawnshops, often-cheaper sets of things for completeness, and random Autozone things to fill in gaps that turned up. You don't have to throw thousands at tools. That only becomes worth it if your time gets that expensive. :)

Telltale sign that it's a 528 would be the 16" BBS style 5's. Unless it was a sport pack car with the 17" or 18" style 5's, the most common wheel that is 528 specific is the 16" style 5. Just a tip from a bimmerhead who's been working on/ owning them for over 25 years 😎👍
