WTF subtitles!! where ever you're getting your movies from.. get another one.. your reactions were great! but the freaking subtitles were messing everything up!!
Taki got lucky that he wrote "i love you"... If he wrote his name mitsuha will just forget it or won't understand but the "i love you" makes the feeling of being loved linger
If you look at what mitsuha wrote, the first stroke isn't part of her name. It does match whatever Taki's first stroke is when he wrote on her hand. She was writing the same thing he was.
A nod to anyone that enjoys a little journey ;) I'm also convinced it was a total reference. Lots of travel by train, our protagonists are essentially strangers waiting, living just to find emotion that they can't seem to quite place.
Absolutely yes. All 3 are incredible movies. A Silent Voice has the more powerful story in my opinion and Maquia is a movie you watch and then go call your mom and tell her you love her lol
You HAVE to watch a silent voice now. Whenever someone watches your name they have to watch a silent voice right after. It's a right of passage (Edit: ty for all the likes but PLEASE don't be rude or toxic in the replies. It's okay to think a show is better than the other but remember, everyone has different taste and all bc it's different than yours doesn't make it invalid, and although ppl usually watch these two movies together, you don't actually HAVE to, my comment was obviously a joke.
I did a silent voice and I want to eat your pancreas b2b at 10am after staying up to try and reset my sleep schedule :D cried so much I fell asleep out of exhaustion lmfao
stfu with silent voice why is everyone on every reaction to Your Name has to comment nothing regarding the actual movie and only "watch silent voice, watch silent voice" like a monkey, putting disrespect on this masterclass of a movie
I really despise how butchered a lot of subtitles are for a lot of shows. Not just anime, just subtitles in general. Really can change how you view something. Your editor is a real MVP.
Which makes the "always watched subbed" crowd so funny. Ahh, so much emotion in their voiced as they say..... "me so mad, parent die and me want revenge" so powerful 😂😂😂
I've already replied to someone else's recommendation earlier, but... seriously... Frieren. I promise you won't regret it. It'll hit you in the feels and blow you away with how beautiful it is. Don't walk, run to it. It's that good.
I'm glad you are diving into anime! It is definitely a great medium. I recommend everything from Makoto Shinkai (the director of this film), Masaaki Yuasa, Hayao Miyazaki and Mamoru Hosoda. You'll fall in love. As you said, some anime is difficult to react to on RU-vid. Especially the Studio Ghibli films. As for anime series, I could go on forever so I'll spare you on that lmao, but there is an anime for any and everything you like. 100%. Great reaction Meesh & Dee! Looking forward to more!
I'm sorry, but anime is NOT a "medium" (unless you use the word in the Japanese sense, in which case it literally refers to all forms of animation). In the western meaning of the world, though, it's a culture and style (somewhat, that isn't entirely true either) specific category of animation, but it is not a medium, and it kind of annoys me when people try to frame it as such. Animation, I would say, is a medium. Different types of animation (stop motion, classic, 3D etc.) could also be referred to as different mediums, though often they are combined. But anime on its own is not a medium. Referring to it as such is a misuse of the word "medium".
I am so glad that this is the first anime movie you two watched. I love Makoto Shinkai movies so much and there isn't one I've watched that didn't make me cry. Every one of his movies has a fantastical element that just makes each one beautiful in such unique ways. I hope you'll watch more of them (either publicly or on your own) because they are all magical. I would highly suggest looking up interviews with him when he talks about why he made each of his movies. I am also happy that you noticed and enjoyed a lot of the big things that make any anime amazing: the animation quality, music (all the music), how good food looks, and the potential for great story telling. Radwimps does a lot (all?) the music for Makoto Shinkai's movies and for Your Name, "Sparkle" is the main one and it's in my daily playlist. The opening of the song alone will get me emotional each time. Lastly, major props to your editor for making sure you had the best possible experience with this reaction. I am glad they are so dedicated to you and your audience to go those extra lengths. As always, thanks for sharing this reaction and I cannot wait for more!
Love your reaction, it was one of my favorite, here's many of a new list you might want to watch. Movie 1. Silent voice 2. I want to eat your pancreas 3. Grave of firefly 4. Weathering with you (Taki n mitsuha were featured as cameo here) Series fantasy 1. Frieren (it a must) 2. The apothecary diaries (you'll meet a bad ass and kind a crazy fl here) 3. Spy x family Slice of live (romance-ish) 1. Lie in april 2. Horimiya(watch this after your lie in april is my advice, to bring your energy up) 3. Komi can't communicate 4. My dress up darling Action (watch at your own risk) 1. Demon slayer 2. Jujutsu kaisen 3. Attack on titan Sport 1. Haikyuu 2. Tsurune 3. Kuroko no basket Happy binge watching
i can't believe you're watching this movie!! it's one of my faves of all time for sure. i've watched this one a thousand times already and i still cry every time i rewatch it. thank you for reacting to this movie! i enjoyed crying to this again with you!! huhuuhuhu
If you want more emotion and tear-jerking moments, and a longer series rather than a movie Violet Evergarden is a great choice. An emotional and beautiful storm.
The companion to this movie (at least as reactions go) is A Silent Voice (movie). You need to watch it! You'll have ALL the emotions. Bring your tissues this time. Also, if you're not "getting into" anime, you're missing out. You absolutely need to watch Apothecary Diaries (series). It is epic! Extra viewing: Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (movie), Your Lie In April (series), Spy Family (series), Golden Time (series), Toradora (series), Clannad (series), Nisekoi (series), Horimiya (series).
It is not a companion to this film. It's not related in the slightest and couldn't be further in terms of quality. Its nothing but a stain on reactions to this film.
It wrecks you, but my head cannon is that if he had written his name, the magic would have erased it like it did all of their messages and that his feelings carried her through to do what she had to do to save the town and why she was always searching for him in Tokyo.
I love seeing people being introduced to Anime through this movie. It's one of my favorites and the one I recommend as well for beginners. And you will probably see this on other comments so I will add to it: your next watch should be A Silent Voice. I feel these 2 movies go well together for Anime beginners. Loved you reaction and shout out to your awesome Editor. I know from now on he will be checking the source before sending you to it haha. Thanks girls for the reaction!
This movie is best enjoyed on your 4th or 5th watch. Each watch youll learn new things and see all the little clues he leaves all the way through- this movie should be studied in schools.
One of the saddest anime I’ve seen in recent years was Your Lie In April, it’s a definite tear jerker. Clannad is much sadder though, plenty of choices if you want to cry lol especially Clannad, I balled like a baby watching that. BUT, my all time favorite anime is Cowboy Bebop which, if you’re getting into anime, is a MUST watch, especially the dub, it’s one of the few where the dub is the best version. It’s a masterpiece and a classic, one of the greats.
You have to watch "5 cm per second now". Same producer and these two movies are meant to be watched back to back. They are the different sides of the same coin.
Oh, this was a beautiful reaction!!!😍 I went through the exact same thing, thinking it was like a cute romcom, when suddenly there was life or death, drama and too many emotions. I'm always bawling my eyes out at this movie😭😭 Here are some anime recommendations: You're gonna like Weathering With You, which is directed by the same man who directed Your Name. It is a similar story of old magic and romance in modern day, but with different themes and vibes. The composer or band who made this soundtrack is also back and it is such a lovely and dramatic movie!!!😍 After that, you could watch Suzume, which is this director's most recent movie. It feels very different to the first two, but also very similar?😅 Hard to explain. It's also like ancient magic and modern day romance, but it is less focused on the romance and more on the character development of the heroine. The music is amazing, too😍 Makoto Shinkai's movies are so good ever since Your Name. Everyone is already waiting for his next movie😍😍😍 You don't need to watch Five Centimetres per Second, which is a very old movie of his. It is fine, but it is nowhere near as fantastic as Your Name, Weathering with You and Suzume.😍 And if you're interested in series, I recommend Romantic Killer (a romance that is not a romance, so I hope Meesh will like it) on Netflix and Spy X Family☺️
If you guys liked this type of anime and you want to watch a series instead of a movie, i think you guys would like "your lie in april". I just watched both that show and this movie this month, amd they both gave me the same type of feeling
Plenty of great and wholesome Anime out there that are perfect for you guys: The Garden of Words, Violet Evergarden (both the series and movie), A Silent Voice, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (the series), Grave of the Fireflies, Spy x Family (the series), Akira, Ghost in the Shell (original anime movie), Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service (the majority of Studio Ghibli movies are all great actually), and many more.
All of Makoto Shinkai's are worth reacting to! I would recommend the two that followed Your Name: Weathering With You, and Suzume. Also, as far sub vs. dub. his movies are a rare exception where the dubs are actually good because they do them in house. Fantastic reaction!! Great work Editor!!!
If you look carefully at the scene where taki and his friends visit the town and saw the big lake created by the comet, you can see that it looks exactly the same as the other lake that has been there since the beginning of the movie. This is because both lakes were created by two separate comets. So they spoke about this big fire that happened a long time ago when the grandma was teaching them how to do the knot/thread thing - that's actually the first time the comet hit. There was already a big lake in the beginning of the story created by the first comet. In the cave, taki fell backwards and saw paintings of a comet on the wall - that cave is the old temple/shrine, so that painting was left behind by people that survived the first comet. Mitsuha's maternal family runs the temple/shrine thing in the village. That's why herself, her mum, her grandma, and all of her ancestors all went through this whole body-switching thing, because they're meant to prepare for when the comet hits again. It happens at every generation, but afterwards their memories become hazy really fast and eventually no one remembers what happened.
There were 3 impacts, each 1200 years apart. The first created the underworld crater, and the religion, the second made the first lake and destroyed the records (all wooden construction from the 800s), the third three years before Taki's first switch created the other half of the infinity lake.
you have to continue watching anime movies especially the studio ghibli movies! you'll easily fall into the anime rabbit hole cause there's so many amazing stories
If you're going for anime, next movie should be A Silent Voice, and then for a series you should watch Frieren. Also, Taki and Mitsuha reappear in Weathering With You, if you want to see them do a brief cameo in another anime.
You should watch ‘Suzume’ next, it’s by the same filmmaker! Or ‘Weathering with You’ is another good one, also the same filmmaker. Besides his movies another one that’s really beautiful is ‘A silent Voice.’ Also, I feel like you should be able to do Ghibli, as I’ve seen a few reactors successfully watch them, but yeah, definitely research that I guess.
Nice choice. Next anime movie recommendation: A Silent Voice and Wolf Children or for great anime series: Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Deathnote, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Monster. Edited: Just finish watch end of reaction for feel good anime series, try: Kimi no Todoke, A Place Further Than The Universe, Toradora, Horimiya, Skip and Loafer, Sweetness and Lightning, Usagi Drop, Fruits Basket, Spy X Family.
Great reaction, great anime choice for your first, amazing save from your editor, is what Himmel the Hero would have done! I agree with other commentators, Silent Voice is a must, good suggestion with Violet Evergarden and Frieren for an anime series, which one to pick? Both! You should definitely pick both!
You guys should watch Belle (2021) and Hotarubi no Mori e (2011) these movies are so good. Btw I really enjoy watching your reaction videos it feels so cozy and chill.
Fun fact which i read from someone else: The reason the boy wrote "i love you" instead of his name is because the "God's" that the girl prays to only protect confessions of love and promises! 🥺🥹
Thanks for the great reactions! I am Japanese. If you liked "Your Name", I recommend "5 Centimeters per Second". It is a film by the same director as "Your Name."
Anime is so diverse, like movies, comics, books. You can find all kinds of experiences, if you want to continue with this type of more intimate, but different experience. I recommend "Mob Psycho 100", it's only 3 seasons, a beautiful story of the emotional growth. Anime movie I recommend "The First Slam Dunk", is like to watch a NBA final, but even more exciting! This movie is cool because the own manga author write and direct the movie.
I showed my wife and daughter this movie last week, and Crunchyroll doesn't have the "I Love You" part translated either. SO MAD. I also had my son walked into the room and spoiled the 1st episode of "Oshi no ko" for my wife seconds before a specific scene as well I just cant win, :/
"Weathering With You" and "A Silent Voice"....are must see's. "Weathering With You" is made by the same director I believe and has a little cross over to this.
I'm a new subscriber & just finished your Arcane reactions. Found this, and I'm really enjoying your reactions! Some of my anime recommendations: - If you want amazing horror-action, epic music, and the best mystery thriller of the decade (bad if you can't handle blood/gore): "Attack on Titan" (4 seasons over 10 years, ~100 eps, complete). - If you want the same tearful, bittersweet emotions as "Your Name" but with a lovable cast, great music, and LotR-style traditional fantasy: "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" (1 season, 28 eps, in progress). - If you want a mix of light jokes, emotional writing, horrifying tragedy, and a gripping fantasy/alt-history tale of family bonds: "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" (1 season, 64 eps, complete). - If you want to try another creative rom-com in the "slice of life" genre that's loads of fun, beautifully wholesome, & adorable: "My Dress-Up Darling" (1 season, 12 eps, in progress). - If you want TOP-tier animation, gorgeous visuals/music, and incredible action with a side of horror: "Demon Slayer" (4 seasons, 55 eps, in progress). - If you want THE "hauntingly beautiful" artwork & ear-gasm of music that tracks children exploring the dark mysteries of fantasy nature: "Made In Abyss" (2 seasons + 1 movie, ~25 eps, in progress).
Everyone's already mentioning A Silent Voice (my favourite movie, go watch it!). But I'd also recommend "I want to eat your pancreas". Don't let the name fool you, it's an emotional gut punch.
Copied from another comment: Fun fact: the reason that the messages disappeared but the "I love You" did not is because in Japanese folklore, all messages of love are protected by the moon god.
You need to not look at Anime as a genre, but as a medium. Anime is divided into as many different genres as movies, and television. If you enjoy watching live media of specific genres you should enjoy Anime in those genres as well. I find that a lot of people get stuck in the mindset of "cartoon are for kids", and are not willing to give any animated media a chance.
Shame on you, Amazon. I love how your editor is the 3rd person on the couch, mad props to him/her/them(?). Funnily enough, I rewatched this the other day with my mom, who I've slowly been introducing anime to since we're both writers who enjoy bonding over good stories, whether it be movies, series, or books. Also, I think an amazing anime for you to warm up to would be "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" or "Oshi No Ko" The other more mainstream or hardcore anime can wait. You guys deserve a good welcoming, from one Pinoy to another.
