Can the 200 Wheel? (Charouleau Gap Trail, Arizona) 

Fun video. Was short on time but stayed for the entirety.

I know this was from "10 months ago" but what you covered in this video doesn't change. I have a 2021 LC with a 2" OME lift and 285/65 18 KO2s on it. (Previously had a 2016 with the same setup.) But having a good truck does not make you a good driver. Watching what you were able to drive over and how you did it was awesome. We are returning to Colorado (after spending the last 5 years in the PNW) and along with trips to UT and AZ expect to do many more drives similar (maybe just a bit easier) than what you just drove. I will probably drive this a few more times to see what lines you took. And since this is the first time I have seen one of your videos I now know I have more to look forward to! In fact, I see you have one on a simple overland build of this truck. That is where I am heading next.

Love the looks from stock. I have 08 LC200 and has basic mods to it like 2"suspension, roof rack, wheels and tire. It has 210,000 miles on it and still love how it drives. Golden goose is perfect name for your LC200.

Golden Goose, dare I say GG, really is looking good. It's amazing how a few simple and functional additions tranform the look of a vehicle.

Great video guys, selfishly, I am so glad you all moved into a 200 series! Lots of helpful tips in that video and it's cool to see you all posting in the 200 series forum on mud!

I live in Tucson and have hiked the Charouleau Gap trail numerous times. The trail is actually in Saddlebrooke. No shame in having to turn around with your vehicle. I have been passed by numerous Polaris RZRs and have talked to the drivers about getting over that shute, they tell me to just pick a line, and stay with it- ha. It is a beautiful hike, especially as it is one place where you can find running water, most of the year, in our area. True story. One day we were returning to the parking lot, and heard a commotion coming off the trail. We turned around, and three trucks were coming back from hunting. One of the trucks was hauling a trailer (not camper) behind it. Not sure how they got that thing up, and back, but they did.

Love the "sleeper" look also. Thanks for the drive through the desert. These type of videos make me miss the four corner states so much.

Thanks for posting this video. I’ve done many a trail like this in my ‘94 4Runner (5 spd), which I’ve owned for the last 12 years. After much searching, I recently went all in on a ‘13 LC, as I needed a bigger platform to tow a “new to me” sailboat (1986 Jeanneau). I picked the LC over a truck because it could tow but also had the off-road prowess I was familiar with due to the shorter wheelbase (and also fit in my garage). Still, I was concerned about losing my off-road intuition with the bigger, automatic platform. I’m happy to say I feel right at home in the LC on the mild trails I’ve driven so far. Watching you tackle the technical in GG is further reassurance in the 200 series. Once I get a good feel for my vehicle, I’ll be right back to my old trail favorites in the Owyhees and beyond. Impressive climb on the granite. - minimal ATRAC bouncing - well controlled! The lower backend of the bumper is so chubby on these 200s but the departure angle kept it from hitting the dirt. You’re making we want a 200 again!

I love that you took the faux bead locks to save weight while I’m considering taking my instant pot and my blender (not to mention more kitchen stuff than most people own) 😂 You two are true pros.

I have a 2020 with a 2" OME lift, 285/75/17's on 17x8.5 0mm offset wheels and I trimmed mine almost identical to how you did yours. I love seeing y'all in a 200, I hope this one gets to stick around for a while as it really is a Swiss Army Knife vehicle. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build and what comes next.

We have Sonora Gold LC200 rocker panel covers on our Satin Cashmere Metallic LX570. Beige brothers unite! Congrats on your 200, looking forward to seeing where you take it. Small lift and tires look perfect, we run 285/75R17 on DakarZeros and found that size great across both off and on-road. We found using ECT and S5 (sometimes S4) trans settings usually performs better with this tire size than just leaving trans in D, especially if towing or weighed down.

We live just a few miles from there. Never tried to do it in my F250 4x4.... But, I hear it's lots of fun! We used to jeep with a friend from Oracle. We'd go all over the Catalina Mountains. Eat hot dogs over a fire. Have a beer. Then, head back down. It was a great time!

Pretty impressive guys👍 It's been a blast watching you guys tackle adventures in all your different rigs but I do have to say that Golden Goose, if it is to be, harkens back to a somewhat simpler adventure platform that originally attracted me to watching. But don't get me wrong, Dusty was Amazing and OG Goose might still be my fave.

First time I’ve liked the look of rock warriors on a 200. VERY interested to see which direction you go for sliders and skids. I’m on the low weight/low height program with my 200 but it always feels like gambling without a little armor.

You need to use the “Crawl Control”. It’s fun and impressive.

Would love an update on the golden goose and how that build is working out. Did you add an aux fuel tank, skids, bigger tires (trimming)?

Great video! Learning a lot from watching you guys wheel. Around the 10min mark you were demonstrating wheel spin when articulating. I've done similar before, but got "stuck" because regardless of right foot input, it wouldn't budge from the wheel spin while articulating. Come across that?

Nice video! Curious, did you consider a LX570? Seems they are lower cost/miles vs the Land Cruiser, and you get a few more creature comforts.

So RSCA stands for Roll Sensing Curtain Airbag. It turns off the roll sensor for the side impact airbags so they don't go Chevy on you. It doesn't affect the trac or ATRAC, FYI.

Either in a comment or another video could you speak on how a LSD would perform in off road situations? I recently acquired a first generation Tundra that came with a factory rear LSD. I haven’t had a chance to get it on any trails. I’m curious how it would perform on elephant tracks. It has no traction control, which as you say, has its pros and cons. Great content, lots of useful bits of information in this one. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Our first gen Tundra had a really touchy throttle and you really had to brave that foot to be smooth off road. Our Tacoma is much better in that respect. We would not try the chute in our home on wheels! I am just a little disappointed the Golden Goose is not going to be Blanche Devaroux, but I can live with that. Lol!

See I feel like Landrover already solved all of that 20 years ago on the Land Rover Discovery 2. The ace system had the hydraulic pump that would stiffen the sway bars when the accelerometer sensed movement not body roll which would be too late. But in low range it automatically shut that off and the movable part of the sway bar hydraulic ram portion would become free and allow those solid front and rear axles to articulate like crazy for stock vehicle I mean those things would fall so far and go so high into the fenders and then get back on the road super super enhanced stiffness around corners. I don't get why they keep trying to change everything and make everything are or independent. There's videos of Discovery to doing a slalom with Mercedes and BMW ifs vehicles and with a tripod mounted surveying camera it showed a dead-on image of the Disco not leaning nearly as much as those ifs other luxury vehicles but then off-road we all know how the discovery 2' off-road so it's kind of annoying to see where Land Rover went. It's like this because you can change things be really have to? I guess with the Range Rover but the poor Defender I mean it just says Defender but it's a Range Rover underneath. The Grenadier is awesome but too bad it's not mass-produced and something where you could get parts and actually not worry about owning. I don't own a Jeep Rubicon but gosh the Simplicity of sway bar disconnects front rear lockers and Brake actuator traction control. It's like how can you beat it? Especially Land Rover being a four-by-four only heritage and then acting the way they do now it's so strange. A lot DieHard off-roaders in Britain and Australia are turning to Jeep now. I haven't yet just because everyone and their brother has one on the trail. I like the idea of what Toyota has done there but still I feel like everyone over complicates everything. I think one of the best examples of where they could have stopped and just increased luxury or body style but not constantly changed and already great thing is the Range Rover P38 with air suspension but still solid axles and a similar system that would provide articulation and stiff on the road but it didn't stiffen up off-road when you didn't want it to it knew what low-range was and it did the opposite plain and simple. In my profile I'm on one of the big step-ups heading down my first time there I was so low and it rained the day before so it was kind of sketchy. I don't have lockers but I have phenomenal traction control and Center diff lock. For a 22 year old vehicle that Discovery has something pretty neat where I can lock it into any gear I want in low range. So if I want to be in anything from 1st to 4th locked in to a dead stop from a takeoff as a torque reduction. So I normally just climb everything in second gear or take off locked in 3rd gear. Only low range of course. Most of the off-roading is second and third I never use first it's just too low LOL the old-school Hill descent control actually works good it'll get me down to about 3 mph I don't trust it but it's fun to play with. Not sure if you guys have been up there in a while but rice Peak is a little more gnarly than before towards the top. Instead of just loose gravel some of it is washing away revealing some pretty tall Little Rock step-ups on the already 28 degree angle. Good Times!

Why run such high pressure on the street? Isn’t factory psi like 33?

I find that some tire shops as well as the tire sticker on the vehicle ( in this case it would list a smaller tires air pressure at max GVW ) tend to play on the mind and cause one to think one requires that 50+ pounds for example in the case of this tire shop. I am only guessing you your current weight with you both in it, is that about 6500 lb or less ?. I looked up what I think is the tire size you are running ( BFG AT 34x 10.5 x 17 ) and using a comprehensive tire inflation guide that toyo has, based on that size tire it says at 35 psi it can carry 2100 pounds per tire, at 30 psi it can carry 1865 pounds. If I am correct at all in my uneducated guessing !, I personally would run 35 psi as my maximum knowing there is a good allowance for a few pounds less and all that based on highway speeds, off road of course is a whole other matter based on the pain in the butt factor to air back up and as you proved on this type of trail it did remarkably well at that air pressure ... a world of difference from Tonto kicking you both in the butt constantly 😀. Of course I realize both of you already know this and more as to what I just said but just bugs me about the tire shop giving such poor advice for the customer that assumed they are being told good advice by the experts.
