I already ordered my Byrna and it going to take 10 weeks to get it as they are so backed up. In the meantime I love watching these videos so I will know what to expect when it arrives. This guy is so down to earth and I love his presentations. He'd be the guy I'd' want for a neighbor.

You're a good lad, Red. The Byrna is a great choice, but I wasn't able to get one here in the "No Self Or Home Defence Zone" of the UK, but eventually managed to buy a FSC Pistol and a few mods. On the subject of self defence stories, two years ago, I watched a neighbour on my street batter an individual using a large frozen fish, after he spotted him breaking into his garden shed. I would have gone to help, but I couldn't breathe for hysterical laughter. On a more serious note, my neighbour was arrested and charged, and later fined heavily, while the would-be thief received a mere police caution. Great video mate

Another excellent presentation. With the Byrna it shoots with only 13 joules, that is not enough impact power to render an attacker out of commission with impact rounds. The First Strike FSC and the Pepperball TCP hit with double the impact power. I just got a Pepperball VKS rifle and it hits very hard. In a documentary about the Nazi vs Soviet war, a soldier said when he was encircled and ran out of ammo, his bayonet saved his life many times. Presumably everyone was out of ammo, or he got the jump on his adversaries.
I've been thinking about getting one to replace the ol' bat at the house. There is a firearm in the house but there's a big gap between needing to use force and killing someone.
This might be a good alternative to a bat. Lol. Don't get me wrong bats are very effective, but what I like about the Byrna HD launcher (besides it being non lethal) is that it gives you space between you and your attacker. A bat is meant for up close and personal. A Byrna HD launcher give you space between you and your attacker. And that's a good thing! Less chance of getting hurt. That's why a handgun is (in most cases) better than a knife. I can't speak for others, but our Byrna HD launchers (me and the wife) have been great. No issues. Yeah it’s effective if your able to use the pepper rounds. That’s what makes you feel safer knowing your able to blind them temporarily. But for Californians we can only purchase the kinetic solid projectiles. Would you still recommend the byrna hd for home defense using only kinetic? Would that stop someone giving you enough time to get away? I’m undecided until I can get more opinions. I just bought the taser pulse and I know that will give me a good 30 seconds to get me and my family away from danger.
I personally believe anything can be used for self defense. Yes, having the pepper balls would probably be more effective. That saying, the kinetic rounds hit really hard. I mean, really hard! If I was using the kinetic rounds only, I'd be aiming for the upper torso and above. This would only be in a self defense situation of course. This is just my opinion, if I had a choose between the Byrna HD with kinetic rounds only or a can of mace for self defense... I'd go for the Byrna HD, hands down! My reason for this is, I know my skill set. I could place 5 rounds in a attacker's chest or face with in seconds. A chest shot may slow an attacker down. in my opinion. But a face shot... I know I wouldn't want to be that person! 13 joules may not sound like a lot, but with a fresh c02, the first 3 mags of a Byrna HD could do some serious damage! Bottom line, the Byrna HD is only going to be as effective as the person behind it. Just trying to keep it real. If you do decide to get one. practice! I mean, don't wear it out. Lol! great video, you're awesome. I've seen a few videos about how the Byrna is ineffective against anyone wearing more than just a t shirt and jeans, as in a coat/jacket would absorb the impact and thus not really deter an attack. What do you think? I have one but haven't tested it yet...
I have an issue with the Byrna Black rounds(green/black), they crack in the magazine. Bad, bad, bad!! I think the pressure from the spring eventually affects them. Other than that, it’s alright.
I've heard of some having issues like this, but I think it's a small sect. So far I've never had this issue with my Byrna HD. (Hopefully I never will) Lol. nwchamp321 As a work around, I’ve since received a 3rd mag and 2 x Magazine holders, my logic is keep the Kinetic rounds loaded in the BHD, and have the chemical rounds in the 2 x magazine holders, always carry at least one extra mag. I’ve found that those magazine holders safely and securely keep loaded mags without affecting the chem projectiles , and can one can IWB them.

When I carry my Byrna HD, I load my main mag with the first shot a kinetic round, second round pepper, the third round kinetic, forth round pepper and the fifth round pepper. My train of thought is the first round is to stun, the second round to to cause vision and breathing discomfort, the third (if necessary) again to stun, the forth and fifth (in extreme self defense encounters) to cause extreme vision and breathing discomfort! I would only use this in a self defense encounter. Hopefully I'll never have to. Stay safe and healthy. Peace
I went with the TCP because doesn't the byna have that squeezed trigger problem or like you literally have to snap the trigger...I actually just had another stroke yesterday and now I can't use my right arm so my TCP is now useless because it's not Amadeus.... I was looking at the byrna but with the velocity at 100 plus I didn't think it would stop an attacker Also the VXR and roundball for the TCP Crack very very easily I've had multiple live SD rounds pop in the mag in completely powder my gun I guess trial an error but I need definite confirmation with that trigger problem does it have it or not Any feedback is amazing! My prayers go out to you. Hope you make a full recovery. I can't speak for others, but I've never had a pepper round to burst in my Byrna HD. Mine handles both rounds, kinetic and pepper just fine. As for the trigger, is doesn't bother me at at. I've had more than a few firearms in my life. Most have their own distinct trigger pull. I'm just adjust to the firearm I'm working with. Although the Byrna HD is not a firearm, I adjust to the trigger pull the same way that I adjust to a traditional firearm. As for the effectiveness of the Byrna HD... Good Video, Godbless...When the Byrna backlog goes down to 2 weeks then get another Byrna, You can shoot with both launchers ...akimbo , since there is no recoil you can shoot with left and right hand synchronized...I practice shooting using my left one hand only and I move while I shoot to have a realistic practice...remember targets don’t stand still ...so practice shooting while moving left or right. Or jog backwards and practice shooting .Lol:)

Just tried my byrna for first time today with the inert projectiles. Loaded co2 cartridge in and loaded magazine. Safety off. Pulled trigger and punctured c02 but launcher did not fire nor on any trigger pull. Took out c02 and put in new one and tried again. Same thing. I think I was pulling trigger forcefully enough but launcher never fired. . Anyone else experience this?
Leave CO2 in and clear the magazine... see if ball is getting into position, or jammed, try the hard rounds. Squeeze trigger fully hard and release. Also spray a silicone oil inside barrel and CO2 every time you practice .before and after.Launchers need a good lubrication bath...I use pure silicon spraycan...never had a jam or failure.
Bet you would’ve LOVED to have had that when the dude pulled the club on you! For all the deniers , think about that. Not every encounter will be against a gun. And even if he had a gun I would rather have the Byrna than nothing at all! LE stats say somewhere around 80% of encounters are ended when a gun ( in this case , the appearance of a gun) is produced. Probably and hopefully the assailant won’t hang around long enough to find out. Plus you do have something that will pack a punch particularly when well placed. Better than nothing by a mile! Just make sure you drop it when the police roll up!
Bro, it would have been a whole different story if I had this launcher when that creep tried to steal my sister's bike! He was a coward to begin with. This would have definitely put a hurtin on him! Lol! That said, I'm grateful to the Lord above that I survived the encounter and that really what matters most. I would hesitate to pull the trigger unless I knew for sure it was my life or his. With a launcher I would be a lot more comfortable with a disabling shot and then get the heck out of Dodge! I kinda like that holster - solid and keeps BHD where it should be, and I like the fact they engraved the Byrna emblem into it - just too bad one can’t IWB it, defeats conceal carry unless one wears a jacket. Just my two cents.

Depends on how hot we are talking about. I've left mine in my car on hot summer days with no problems. Although I wouldn't leave it in direct sunlight in the car. Look, if you've ever been in a battle with a real crook, you know this won't work. If you have what they want, this isn't going to do anything at all, not even slow them down. Everything looks good on paper until you're knee deep. The ave encounter is less than 21 ft. That's 3 yds. If you are 3 yds, you draw now 2yds, you fire, 1yd. That's close enough to be grabbed. If you're able to retreat while shooting you gain 1 step. OC or tear gas isn't going to stop them. We don't use this crap anymore in maximum security prisons for this reason. It just pisses them off. You either need to end it, or don't pull anything and give them everything they want.

Anyone true practitioners of self-defense knows that anything and I mean anything can be used for self-defense. Yes, somethings are more effective than others for self-defense. That's true.
