Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing the ELDER WAND-the most POWERFUL wand in the Harry Potter universe. Specifically, we’ll be tackling the question of whether or not the Elder Wand could ever be replicated. That is, if a wandmaker was given the right materials- could they make…ANOTHER Elder Wand?
Let’s dive in.

I believe the deathly hallows are only known because of their involvement with death. The Elder wand with its deathly creation to its bloody trail in history. I believe the creator of the three hallows could have been a very gifted magician who was bested in a bet and/or robbed by the three brother hence the death coming back and killing the eldest brother in the night with a knife because he didn’t have a wand to do so.

I still say The Peverils made the three hallows and The Tale of The Three Brothers was inspired by how each of them died. One from Violence, One from Heartbreak, and One from Old Age. But that the tale as a whole is a fictitious cautionary story for anyone who may follow in their footsteps.

Antioch never had the intention to lose the wand. For a wizard to kill or beat the owner of the elder wand, it must be against the owner will. So Death killing him still won the wand allegiance but you ask a great question as to how another wizard won it from death. It should be remembered the story is dramatized. Its not really Death in disguise, its another wizard acting on the intention to murder. We don't know who the wizard is that killed him but what we do know is that after Antioch death Emeric the Evil had the wand. So its likely he killed him or Emeric killed the wizard that murdered Antioch.

With the right materials a skilled wand maker could fashion an elder wand. But would such a wand be capable of the incredible magic that the elder wand is able to perform? I’m not so certain. While the elder wand is powerful, deadly, and produces results beyond what is generally thought possible of magic. But are these amazing things possible because of the wand’s construction and the materials it is made from? Or is its power a result of the wand passing from the hand of one powerful warlock to another for centuries? “The wand learning from the wizard, the wizard from the wand.”-Ollivander

I'm not so sure. Gregorovich was the greatest wandmaker of Eastern Europe, had the Elder Wand for decades, but still no new generation of Deathsticks appeared. My theory is that it was actually recreated multiple times, but the OG Elder Wand is also not overpowered, it was just always wielded by the strongest ones of their respective age, who didn't actually need it to rise to power. That's the only explanation to why its wielders can actually be defeated, which kept on happening throughout the centuries.

The story of the 3 Brothers is a story of the muggles and magic. If they choose the path of Grindlewald and Voldemort, coveting power, there will only be loss and death. If they choose the path of longing to be together, they would enjoy it for awhile, but ultimately it will lead to heartbreak and disappointment. However, if they choose the path of secrecy, they would live long lives and great death in their own time.

One thing I have curious about since I read my 1st harry potter book is how do the wand makers get the core into the wand? Does Ollivander have a super long and thin drill bit on a drill press? Have the wands been sliced in half length-wise and a little bit chiselled out? Does he slice the tip off and stuff a unicorn hair into it and reseal the end? Such an important and earth-shattering question. I know i have too much time on my hands but I can't be the only muggle who has pondered this dilemma. Any answers to my query?

It must go into the handle n run through the entirety of the wand based on the broken wand, Harry's wand in deathly hollows..the book stated that it was held together only by the Phoenix feathers when it was split in half. They can't put it in the tip..n they probably use magic to seal the hole once it's drilled into the wood..then they most likely stain amd push it to finish it.

It's not just the wand, but the Deathly Hallows. Their associated themes are incredibly mythic. I feel like something greater had to have some influence in their creation, circumstances that can't be replicated by just a powerful and talented wandmaker. I feel like the next truly epic wand to emerge in that setting would not be death themed, no elder wood or thestral hair.

Fun fact, the Invisibility Cloak is actually not even magical at all! Rather, it is the molted skin of a Changewing Dragon, a specie of which spits acid rather than fire, can turn invisible against anything that isn’t itself invisible, (i.e. it couldn’t turn invisible when flying far from anything that itself is visible such as air), and the dragon itself possesses no magical properties of any kind. That’s right, you can’t use a dragon heartstring from a Changewing in a wand, it simply won’t work. Anyways, when a Changewing molts, it sheds its skin, like any other reptile, and those naturally shed skins are quite literally perfect invisibility cloaks just laying there on the ground for the taking. In fact, although the Changewing’s scales are said to be quite soft, properly cured and treated, (not to mention enchanted in this case), these cloaks can indeed last an immensely long time. Even without proper preservation techniques, the cloaks made of naturally shed Changewing skins will still last much longer than traditional charmed cloth or demiguise pelts. So there, cloak mystery solved, sounds like Mr. Prevell was quite the skilled leather worker for his time, being able to not only find a naturally shed Changewing skin, but also to properly tan, treat, cure, and otherwise magically preserve the shed skin. Note: Killing and skinning a Changewing does not result in a cloak, as the skin used must by naturally shed by a Changewing while it is still alive. So don’t do Dragon Hunting kids. Rockatoa, Brickticks out!

it should be possible for a crafty wand maker to create another elder(wood) wand. it might be a difficult task with many possibilities to fail, but it should not be impossible. and even if the new elder(wood) wand comes out to be weaker than the original one, it doesn´t really prove the origin of the OG one as Death´s creation. it would only show that the creator of the new wand wasn´t that capable and powerful as the creator of the old one. and on top of that, i assume even the original elder wand could only bring you so far. it might make your spells stronger and more powerful, but only a top notch sorcerer should be able to unleash and use the wands full potentuial - which would go for the reproduction like for the OG wand. but in the end, most people will think of an alder wand just as a myth, not willing to consider it´s recreation at all.

Haven’t watched the video but the answer is yes… short explanation! The wand was either 1 actually created by Death him/it self and thus death can just create it once more if he wishes or 2. The wand was created by the 3 brothers and then that would mean a “new” elder wand could technically be created again since it already was by some powerful wizard. Either way the wand technically can be recreated yes. Thx for watching

There are two coaligning facts that I'd like to put forward. The first is that wands were described as "learning" certain spells from their owners, therefore making it easier for, let's say, the Elder Wand to learn spells related to death and destruction. Something else that surfaces in the world of Harry Potter is intent. A witch or wizard has to want the spell to succeed, to actually know it will succeed, in order to produce consistent results when casting spells. As we learn later on, the verbal component isn't necessary at all, and successful practitioners can simply think of the appropriate incantation in order to cast a spell, charm, hex or curse. This requires focus, intention, and most of all belief. That last one, belief, is most important for my argument. If a witch or wizard believes that they possess the most powerful wand in existence, a wand that has already learned how to deliver death and destruction at the hands of previous owners, then that combination will yield an unprecedented level of power. Simply because the weilder believes it will happen. J.K. Rowling has shown us time and time again that doubt is the biggest hinderence in her world, and that complete focus and belief is the true strength of an individual. The fact that someone allegedly has the most powerful wand in existence is simply a mind game, which alters the perceptions of others when they have to stand against it
@gamezx
@gamezx 2 месяца назад
HP Theory, I've actually thought about this a fair bit and not only do i believe you could, i think its possible to create a wand that far out classes it and it wouldnt even be a contest. This is a theory you might actually like. The question became why was the elder wand on a level above everything else, elder wood isnt some powerful ancient tree, its classified as an invasive weed. And thestral hair while cool in design, is from a magical creature so common that wizards use them as a common form of transport. This isnt even starting on the fact that olivander has tested thestral hair and deemed it not good enough for use. So just from its materials, there's no reason it should be so much more powerful than anything else. The only reason it is the most powerful wand, is because the story says it is But then hogwarts legacy came along and presented a new possibility, ancient magic. We know that wand wood works in the same way as humans in that within a whole group you could find only a small percentage of trees that are attuned to magic. We also know that there is an even rarer chance than that you can find a wizard that's instead tuned to ancient magic, which we know is in a class above regular magic in terms of power. So my theory is the elder wand was so powerful because it was made from wood that was tuned to ancient magic instead of regular magic. Once i had that thought, i started designing what could be the most powerful wand you could ever theoretically create 1. Wand wood As discussed we need to start with a wand made from wood tuned to ancient magic, but which wood. When focusing on the aspect of ancient magic and the fact we're selecting the VERY best materials theoretically possible, i thought the best wood would be the kind to come from a legendary tree from ancient history. Going through the list, one mythical tree stood out immediately, a wand crafted from a branch of the original tree of knowledge. From its name and reputation alone, if you could find that tree there wouldnt be another wood type more attuned to ancient magic than that 2. Wand core Next step is wand core, and there we hit another major problem, which core to pick. Thestral hair is powerful but unstable and deemed not good enough by olivander who we can assume is THE authority on the subject. Now olivander himself identified 3 core types as being better than any other; dragon, unicorn and phoenix. But again which type to pick cus each type has its strengths and attributes over the others Then i came across one of your own videos that gave me the revelation needed. In deathly hallows during the fight in malfoy manor, there is a moment when harry is holding all of the malfoy's wands in his hand at the same time, he cast a stunning spell with it and it "shot out like a cannon". You yourself made a video discussing how this proves it IS possible for a wizard to use multiple wands with different cores and woods at the same time, and that casting with multiple wands exponentially amplifies the spell. This is the key, why pick from the 3 supreme cores, when you could have all 3 cores at once. In hogwarts legacy there is 1 wand design that stood out to me, the spiral wand. As this wand shape is infact 3 "wand shafts" twisted together into a single tool. If you take that design and string a different core through each shaft, this will give you a new "tri-core" wand design which would exponentially amplify your magic just by itself But again, lets select the BEST materials possible. I didnt just want any old dragon/unicorn/phoenix cores, how could you select the BEST ones For the dragon core what's the best dragon. Hard to say from what's been seen onscreen but what about offscreen? I theorise that just about any creature from mythology is up for grabs as being a creature in the wizarding world, that isnt too much of a stretch to say. So the best dragon i would say would probably be an eastern dragon. Western dragons are wild animals and giant pests, but in mythology eastern dragons are seen as gods or nature spirits. They can speak, are highly intelligent and most interestingly have the ability to control the elements. In wizarding world lore, i translate this as having the natural ability to perform elemental magic at will. A heart string from this kind of dragon would out class all others, more powerful and would have a natural affinity/boost to elemental magic. But you cant just kill an eastern dragon and expect the core to choose you, you should earn the dragon's respect and defeat it in honest combat to ensure the core doesnt reject you For the unicorn hair i question, what's the upgrade to a unicorn in mythology. That would be a winged unicorn, which fun fact is actually known as an alicorn. This would be possible in harry potter lore as winged horses cannonically exist, so its not a stretch to see the breeds mixing to create what would essentially be seen as a living angel of the magical creatures. I did consider a crossbreed of unicorn and thestral but honestly god knows what that'd create, probably a creature with entirely different effects. I also considered replacing this with a qilin hair from fantastic beasts as qilin's are sometimes called "eastern unicorns", but again i'm not sure if that'd be diverging too much from the unicorns properties. Either of these though would be a suitable upgrade from regular unicorn hair, but ofcourse to ensure it doesnt reject you, the creature should offer the hair itself to you in gratitude for something you did for it Finally the phoenix feather, at first i thought the thunderbird would be a cool upgrade as its related to the phoenix and just looks way bigger and more powerful. But then i learnt that thunderbird is a standard core used in ilvermorny. Although stated to have similar properties to phoenix and having a natural affinity to transfiguration magic, i guess olivander still deems phoenix as the more versatile. So i questioned, what if you had a theoretical crossbreed between a phoenix and thunderbird to blend their properties, creating essentially a much larger phoenix type. Something which in my head canon i've been calling the "firebolt phoenix" in reference to harry's broom name. A feather from a phoenix like that, especially if it was a phoenix you've cared for since it first hatched, that would ensure a feather with the greatest loyalty to you and give a boost to transfiguration So these are my 3 cores; heart string from an eastern dragon, tail hair from an alicorn and feather from a thunderbird/phoenix cross breed, twisted together in a spiral tri-core wand design. From this you could see how the core's would work together in unison. The dragon core would provide the power, the alicorn core would provide the control and consistency, and the phoenix core would give the spell shape and versatility. A normal wand would probably burn up from this kind of power coursing through it, but the ancient magic wood its made from should be able to handle this level power - Post too long, continued in replies -

- Part 2 of theory - 3. Wand handle Hogwarts legacy introduced wand handles as a thing so again i thought, what's the best you could get. Immediately i thought of a handle made from goblin silver. This would impart 2 important effects. Firstly goblin silver rejects any negative effects imparted to it, which means a handle made from this should be immune from the disarming charm which ofcourse is very practical. Secondly goblin silver absorbs any positive effects imparted to it, so the question becomes what is the best potion or material to "stock up" the silver with? Basilisk venom is too situational to be useful, and potions boosting magic arnt needed cus the wand already doesnt lack for power. What i settled on instead is felix felicis. In theory, if you polished the silver with liquid luck it would permanently have an added luck factor for whoever wields it. This i believe would be far more beneficial in the long run than any other potion the silver could absorb Plus the best part, despite goblin tradition saying they would try to take the wand back after your death, they cant because of the fact it IS a wand. Goblin's cant even pick up a wand without causing an international incident, let alone a wand like this one. They wouldnt dare try to claim this wand handle back as it would probably spark a full scale wizard world war. And if all else fails, just put the same enchantment gryffindor's sword has to always summon it back to its chosen wielder But even further than that, i wanted something cool for the pommel of the wand handle with a final effect. I thought of magic gemstones and such and one springs to mind right away, that being the philosopher's stone. Now while this would be an excellent choice, i still think its too situational to be useful. All the stone seems to do is create the elixir of life and transmute gold, and its unclear if the stone gets used up doing this or not. Now this might be delving far more into fan theory territory but i instead started looking more into pensives and how in the movie they seem to be made from a magical metal. What if you could break down the enchantment used to create the pensive and imbue the goblin silver with a variation of it? Not enough to enter memories, but to store the memories of every spell and skill you've learnt while wielding the wand in a miniature goblin repository (like from hogwarts legacy but tiny) on the pommel? The effect of this would be everything you've ever learnt would always be at your fingertips, and with the phoenix core having the added known effect of casting on its own in certain situations, imagine if said core started casting (in conjuncture with the other 2 cores) while having a full record of every spell you've ever learnt on hand. Then there's the added factor of imagine if this wand gets passed down and used throughout the generations, each wielder adding their own memories and experiences to the repository of knowledge. That i feel would be a fitting final device to finish this wand. But hey, if that's too fan fiction for you, philosophers stone is always a backup choice So all in all you've got a wand made from a branch of the tree of knowledge, attuned to probably the most ancient magic of all. The cores of an eastern dragon, alicorn and theoretical firebolt phoenix in a tri-core wand design. Held together with a goblin silver handle imbued with liquid luck and topped off with a repository of memories derived from the pensive enchantment (or philosophers stone if you otherwise wish). Incase you didnt notice, in total thats 7 different kinds of magic going into the construction of this theoretical wand, which means it gets an ADDED boost from the whole arithmancy theory of magic around the number 7 Can you see why i said this theoretical wand could curb stomp the elder wand?

The elder wand also probably gained power from either the owner causing death of dying through magical means while in possession of the wand. I think in the books its mentioned that if the owner dies a peaceful natural death the wand would lose its power.

Let us look at this just as logically as Death did. The brother asked for an unbeatable WAND, NOTHING was ever said about the Wizard wielding it. Well, the wand DID remain undefeated so it did exactly what was asked for. The Wizards, not so much.

A muggle could combine ingredients, but it wouldn't be magical. There is a step not mentioned in the books that converts a wooden stick into a magical object. A wand maker could combine the same ingredients to make a wand, but it might not be as powerful. There might be something in the make a stick magical procedure that the brothers did differently. I wonder if wands draw off of an energy source and Death has his own energy source that is different. The make a stick magical procedure may involve connecting the wand to a magical energy source.

Using time turners, someone could permanently repair the elder wand by repairing it first with a normal wand for one spell, then go back in time and use the elder wand to cast reparo on itself.

Somehow I wonder if you couldn’t create a wand with multiple wand woods or wand cores. I mean it’s not impossible to use multiple wood types or to put in multiple cores. Of corse they could just not work, but they could also be extraordinarily powerful. The most interesting option could also be that a wand with multiple wood types and/or core types could be somewhat mental. I mean wands do have some sort of own will like choosing their wizard/witch or sometimes doing magic on their own like Harry’s wand did against Voldemort. So a wand with multiple wood types and core types could have split personalities or could otherwise be unstable or psychotic.

I personally think all the hallows were made by the brothers, all can be remade with relative easy, but albeit, powerful magic. The one I'm most interested in is the stone. We know alot about the wand and cloak, but almost nothing about the stone other than what it does. The wand and cloak appear frequently in the books and movies, but the stone on the other hand, hardly at all. What kind of stone, what kind of enchantments may have been on it, etc

You left out an important aspect. Ollivander told Harry that the wand chooses the wizard, and the wizard and the wand go on a journey together, they learn from each other. So even if a talented wandmaker created a replica of the Elder Wand, this new wand wouldn't have the "experience" or "memory" of centuries of great magic performed with it that the Elder Wand has.

I think that even if a wand maker would have made a one to one replica it wouldn't be the same. As I also agree with Dumbledore that the brothers, either all 3 or only Antioch created the wand or the hallows all together. Maybe each brother donated to the strength of the wand, if that is the case this would mean that the elder wand was one of a kind.

An often overlooked bit of info that could likely be assumed as part of the creation process and if true the key piece/ingredient to the recipe is the use of Ancient Magic. I think that the Hallows were objects of outstanding power created with ancient magic. Which now makes me wonder if Dumbledore discovered a way to tap into ancient magic to create the Deluminator, which is a unique device of his own design.

A theory on The Elder Wand and why it is more powerful than any other wand... Since wands and wizards can gain a sort of symbiosis, When it was first created, The Elder Wand was no more powerful than any other wand. However, as it got passed from one powerful wizard to another, it added a smidgen of each wizard's power to its own. Over time, it became more powerful than any wizard holding it. So if you created a "Younger Wand", it could eventually be as powerful as its Elder brother, but it would be at least a millenium. (Not a theory I subscribe to, but it popped in my head and I wanted to share.)

You can do, and it is very tricky, complicated and takes a lot of power and you have to do it during the full moon because of it's power will be at it's strongest and yes, you need to be very skilled a creating wands in the first place. It isn't a thing for anyone can do. Okay. So you will need Eldertree wood, you will need threstal tail hair (hopefully you seen death to see them). You will need to infuse them together with a binding spell, combine it with rare materials, wizard power, magic, protective elements, powerful charms, unique herbs, zinc, water and gold, that will help make it solid, stable, flexible. Create a unique core with birtch, bronze and tin. Each time you do do these steps will alwas be on the full moon....and somehow, you have to connect it to death and the afterlife (that's another tricky one). Then, you recite some poem. ''By the light of the moon and the ancient tree, Craft now a wand that shall let magic be. With elder wood strong and Thestral hair hidden, Bind them with spells, where secrets are bidden. Let the wand's power through the ages transcend, A new Elder Wand, may its magic never end.'' It should be done. I must say, the work that goes on Mugglenet lore is pretty interesting.

The Elder Wand isn't the only unique wand. Yes it is powerful but wandlore has proven that can there can be wands created to perform similar feats. Salazar Slytherin wand of Snakewood and Basilisk horn core was able to perform powerful magic which also allowed the user (who can only be of his family line) to put the wand in rest mode. Now its not stated if a user who disarms the wand will earn its ownership or loyalty but if the wand is put to sleep it cannot work until it is undone. So by that logic the first Peverell brother Antioch Peverell must have found a way to subtract the thestral core within the wand to allow it to fuse with it. Then he magically enchanted it and now its stated to be legendary yet beatable. Its only a matter of time before another brilliant wizard replicates it or creates a wand more stronger.
@MasterTMO

*Can* it be recreated? Yes. By a wizard as skilled as the original Peverell brother, which they probably don't have. We do have at least some evidence that the Hallows are more powerful than standard items - Harry's Cloak. In the books they call it "perfect" and hasn't faded over how many hundreds of years? The Stone is apparently unique, and so may or may not be powerful for its kind, or may be supremely tricky to make, or just odd enough that no one thinks to try and make one. The wand is the one that there's both plenty of similar items out there and no hard evidence of being stronger than others like it. But I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, considering the other two Hallows' natures.

The resurrection stone - he gave to Harry as shown in part 8 Cloak- given to Harry in 1st part Didn't he had the resurrection stone before! If he had all the deathly hallows then no one should have been more powerful than Dumbledore.

Yes, you probably could recreate it, but it would be difficult. According to the fairytale, the brothers came across death after going across a river. While this is part is definitely fake, there likely is truth contained in it. It was centuries ago so it’s possible that they saw a dead person or a person dying. This led to them being able to see thestrals and so they would have able to kill thestrals and use them to make the deathly hallows. Edit, someone suggested that death was the thestral.

I wonder if a wand could be repaired if the resin native to that specific tree/material were applied, because the resin in nature is the essence of that said tree/material so shouldn't it in theory still hold magical properties and through its own adhesive properties act as a binding agent for the wand itself and by extension an insulator for the core? because like take hagrids wand being turned into the umbrella for example, I mean sure, it's still not as good as a standard wand, but I mean it still holds magical properties and can even perform some minor spells, but that's just as an umbrella, if you took the essence of the wand itself and used that to repair it, I don't see how it couldn't in theory restore it at least close to its original state.

Wand of elder never prosper was a sayung about how wands made of elder didnt work or pair well at all. Regardless of core this was a special combination, we also have to factor in how many powerful owners the wand had learned from n how it kept seeking powerful wielders over n over for centuries..the last few owners were supremely powerful so imagine the lessons stored in that wamd from Albus Dumbledore and Grindelwald alone..incredible to consider. They usually bury the wand with the death if the owner plus the rarity of the qood and the core combination.

Actually the wand did have a core, thestral hair. All of the items were made from thestrals, which is why they are so powerful. The Cloak last forever since only those who seen death can see thestrals. Harry’s ancestor must’ve adjusted the skin somehow. The Wand is powerful because not many people would be able to acquire Thestrals hair. The Stone can bring back the dead, possibly because Thestrals are already connected to death somehow. Perhaps the person brought back is a death that they witnessed.

Seeing how the Elder Wand has been studied by the likes of Gregorovitch and it yet has to be recreated despite it is apparently known that it is made of Elder Wood and has a Thestral Tail Hair as its core, it might not be possible to recreate it. And I think the cause of this is the Elder Wand itself. A temperamental wand like the Elder Wand probably wouldn't want a copy of itself and seeing why it was created, the same might go for his creator. And with how powerful the wand actually is, I do think it possible that Antioch casted a curse with it, making it impossible for future wand makers to combine Elder Wood and Thestral hair into a similar wand. None shall be allowed to create a rival to his wand.
@mr_yoru5834

I think the Wand is man-made and could be recreated, but it may be that there was something special involved with its making that makes it so powerful beyond just the materials and nobody knows exactly what that is and it could take a long time to stumble on it again. We don't really know the specifics about how normal wands are made, and there's clearly more to it than just the materials, otherwise all things being equal a simple repair spell should be able to fix a broken wand.
