I honestly believe the flood infection can't be properly cured. Due to the unique way it was created (that being literal star dust that a precursor broke itself down into that decayed over thousands of years) it's far beyond what we would call an infection in our modern day tech. A lounge time ago, the precursors were at war with the Forerunners because the Forerunners wanted the mantle of responsibility, which was given to the humans. One by one the precursors were dying, despite being so damn powerful so one precursor decided to avoid this conflict and broke himself down into dust so that he would be able to recollect himself in the future, and wether he knew it or not, the dust would decay over the years and would turn into the flood parasite, and then he would be reformed into the Gravemind. The Gravemind's consciousness is literally a reincarnated version of the precursor, and the flood is also a part of that reincarnation. This also explains why a Gravemind collects knowledge through it's victims because once a person has become a flood form, all their memories and knowledge becomes part of the flood consciousness. This also explains why if a Gravemind dies, a new one can be made and the previous Gravemind's knowledge transfers to the newer one. This means that the flood NEVER stop learning and advancing and this, combined with the strength of the flood, is one of the reasons why the forerunners lost the war to the flood. That's why the flood and the Gravemind are so deadly, they can communicate with each other in the most perfect way, their minds. Because the flood IS just one mind. That's why they all do have ONE goal. Because all forms of the flood is literally the same being, all down to the microscopic level. In Halo 3, the flood advance to a higher stage of their lethality, meaning they've infected enough to advance to the next stage of infectivity. You know about this when you hear a certain one said by an elite - "...the flood, it has evolved." The flood tank forms in Halo 3 (or more properly known as a flood super cell or FSC) can shape shift because its 'muscles' can think. The microbes that transmit the flood parasite have their own consciousness and trying to cure a being that has lived for hundreds and thousands of years and is extremely intelligent can be a bit of a problem. It took me years to fully grasp the concept of the flood and I'm still not sure if I got it all down. I love the flood...

The question I've always wanted an answer to is: why aren't the highly advanced combat skins of ancient Humans and Forerunners effective at keeping out a life form like a Flood spore? I mean, these suits are essentially tanks built to withstand heavy damage from advanced weapons fire and keep out hard vacuum and extreme temperatures for extended times. You would think the absolute LEAST they should be able to do is keep out organic lifeforms.

How to cure the flood: 1. Eliminate all life in the galaxy 2. Let the flood starve 3. Return to life 100000 years later in the future

How to stop the flood: Tell the graveminds to stop. "Yeah if you would stop infesting the whole galaxy, that would be really great... please."

The people who were thought to be immune in Halo were actually willingly spared by the Flood, who deemed them to be potential candidates for the Mantle of Responsibility. The only immunity to flood cells is worthiness of the Mantle.

I really like your flood video's because in my opinion, the flood is the most intresting thing in halo lore, and there are so many things that intrest me about it

if the primary way of infection is the nervous system, then really, you need to only do one of two thing, either completely replace the nervous system or find a way to fully protect it. I have theories on both that are within reason. for replacement, you could replace the major parts (spinal nervous system, brain stem, heart, etc) with fiber optics that can do the same job. as far as I know, there's no real way for the flood to infect basically a tube of light. Another way is to protect it. The way I think we can do that is by introducing a artificial virus with DNA/RNA instructions for cells to make either protein wall or a carbon wall around all of the nervous system. I don't know if it'll really stop the infection fully, but it'll make it a hell of alot harder. these are my theories, again, I tried to put it within reason for 500 years into the future upvote so Xperia can see this :D

being significantly more difficult to infect would be very helpful. the flood can't bolster their ranks on the fly and infections forms can be taken out during the process, making saving squadmates a possibility that wasn't one before. if it took, say, a few days to infect instead of a few moments, the flood would be pretty fucked because they only make gains when they win.

I noticed a problem here, regarding Sergeant Johnson's immunity. It wasn't due to his status as an ORION subject. It was due to a psychological mutation caused by nearby detonation of a number of plasma grenades. It was cureable, but Johnson never took the full course, meaning his mental structure was screwed up. This is explained in one of the books (I forget which, but I think it was First Strike.) Nut I dunno. Maybe it's changed.

in the halo book series specificly "halo: the flood" there is mention that sgt johnson survived a plasma grenade being stuck to him, and that the sticky residue on the grenade was what detured the flood from infecting him, just an interesting little fact im not shure you knew

Are spartans able to be infected because we never see it and master Chief sometimes nearly gets killed by the flood and he's the best so some unlucky spartan must have got killed by the flood. If the spartan did get infected what would happen to there fiscal body and how smart would the flood become after this change. The problem with the side-effect of the Orion project is that it only impedes Infection Form infections. Infections via Flood spore are not affected as that type of infection converts existing cells into Flood cells. As we all know, spore infection would be much more common that that of infection forms so really you need a way to prevent the conversion of genetic material into Flood genetic material.

Or they could design armors to specificaly repel airborne spores and infection form, sort of like the mjolnir armor pops infection forms on contact, create a whole platoon of those special units and use them to repel an attack, which would not be infection proof but would make it a good challenge for only one to be infected, put them on the back lines and put on the frontlines remote controlled robots without AI, which would make them the perfect fodder canon as they would be replaceable and unable to be infected by either the logic plague or the infection in itself.

Mess up all of humanity’s nervous system in a slightly different way, making it difficult for the flood to infect everyone because everyone’s nervous is messed up.

Around the 4:20 mark you make a mistake. Orion participants are infectable Sargent Johnson was an exception for a different reason. During the war he stole a crate of plasma grenades and used them against the covenant. The resulting radiation blasts fried his flesh and made it incompatible with the flood. Chief has a whole thing about this in the books and it’s confirmed several times that ONI would never be able to reproduce it meaning it wasn’t the Orion project which they could reproduce if they wanted to. This is explained in the book that takes place just after Halo CE.

There is no possible cure. That's that. The only cure is to destroy every Flood parasite.

We could engineer our immune systems to be resistant to the spoors/injected cells. Maybe build collars that discharge energy at infected forms when they try to latch on. Would make it much more difficult for a low grade outbreak to spread with specialist units. The flood just get so OP with larger outbreaks.

Wait, I thought the reason that Johnson is technically "immune" to The Flood is because his over-exposure to radiation. In one Halo novel that I cannot clearly recall, Johnson got his nervous system issue from a combat mission where he used a bunch of captured covenant plasma grenades and eliminated the enemies. Not only did he received a medal for it, his nervous system is also screed because of such massive exposure to the radiation that those grenades exerts on him. This nervous system disease was said in novel to make the Johnson's nervous system basically "unpredictable". This means that Johnson's nervous system do not transfer impulse like a normal animal do. This made him "immune" to the flood because flood could not hijack Johnson's nervous system in order to fully transform the host's body. I think either in Halo: Fall of Reach, Halo: First Strike, Halsey did examined Johnson's blood and detected flood genes that inactive within Johnson's body. Halsey even gave Chief 2 chips in which one of them contains Johnson's medical examination and Chief had to make the call on wether to give the actual one to the naval officer or the fake ones which has false medical report on Johnson's body.

Don't forget there was also the ancient San'Shyuum, (Prophets) who were allies with the humans, and the war was lost because the San'Shyuum betrayed the humans. If all the modern day prophet we see were mostly grave mind biomass, imagine how many San'Shyuum were in the ancient gravemind/primordial, along with humans and forerunners (who were mostly combat/ carrier forms). Well, given that in StarCraft, there is a way to reverse Zerg infestation, which is pretty similar to (and has probably inspired the Flood infection process), it is not unreasonable to assume that, given enough time, a cure could be developed for the Flood infection.

Don't forget about the marine from Halo 1 who wasn't infected when the Chief found him... As for dealing with the flood, Hunters equipped with flamethrowers (plus Covenant glassing and human nukes) would cleanse a planet in no time! :D

Realistically a sort of plasma based shield should keep the flood out, it's not possible at our technological level but a grid of Satellites could project a sort of magnetic flask type containment field that is then filled with superheated plasma. The energy required would be absolutely insane but it's something that's at least possible within the realm of physics. Now absolutely enforce insanely strict checks and decontamination protocols whenever someone leaves a contained planet and have orbital "semi safe" docks for ships to be fully inspected/scanned on return. Apply all the same shielding to ships. Everyone returning from a planet surface is checked and placed in a sealed area until proven safe and incinerated immediately if anything even suggests a flood infection. Should an outbreak occur the planet, ship or station in question is to immediately be nuked/glassed/wiped of all life in some way. Localized outbreaks are to be wiped with Orbital glass cannons or nukes regardless of civilian casualties. Any unauthorized breach of any planetary or station/ship shielding is to be treated as an active infection unless proven non threatening. if the breaching vessel/person can't be identified the location is to be incinerated/nuked/glassed. No material from any planet that is not "known safe" can be transported into or through a safe space without being treated in a way certain to eliminate any potential microscopic life form inside. If any native life on a non controlled planet are discovered and the planet can't be fully scanned and subsequently shielded all life on that planet is to be wiped out. Might be gruesome but allowing potential flood food to exist is a risk that can't be taken. Once a gravemind exists the flood might become too intelligent to clear out. Should a larger outbreak occur the number one priority is to find a way to destroy that entire sector of space or at least any life in it. Options like blowing up stars and other forms of stellar engineering are our best chance here.

So the infection was definitely made treatable if the stupid fourunners didn’t attack the flood could’ve probably been fully cured and pretty much all life in the galaxy would’ve never been killed and the galaxy never reset

Just a very late thought about this topic. Maybe humanity did find a cure but like many other pathogens in the real world, it adapted. The Flood they didn't succumb to it were slightly genetically different enough that it made it hard or impossible for the cute to kill or prevent it. However the fact that do many were suddenly dying and the fact that humans were resistant at all was enough to scare the Flood into retreat so it could regroup and assess everything. All organisms have the ability to express different proteins and activate, deactivate, or change genes. The Flood would be no different in that regard. So across all Flood cells there would be slight variations. Though overall the same, any "offspring" of cells that had certain mutations would also have them. This would require humanity to find the resistant variations and adjust the cure for them as well. Likely numerous times.
