First, it was done over a very long period of 200+ years. Not all in one go. And it was the British policies and laws implemented that killed 1.8 billion Indians, not that they were executed.
The two main policies that wiped out 1.8 billion Indians are: 1: Allocation of food: Since the British were at war all the time, they didn't have people to do the farming. They made India do agriculture and then take it away. causing a massive famine every week. 2: Plundering of India's natural resources The British forced Indians to mine all the natural minerals in their country and carry them to the ports to be shipped back to England every day. extremely dangerous jobs, and these poor Indians weren't fed, and hundreds of millions succumbed to the exhaustion. The whole of India was ruled by only a handful of Britishers. Why India chose to never fight back baffles many to this day. Maybe India is just obedient by nature.

Maldives election was fought on India vs China and the person favoring China won the election so, naturally, china will be his closest partner. Just to be clear because some Indians are not clear of this. - Maldives now have bigger debt to India than to China. - India did not complete very expensive project that was suppose to connect Male to Vilingili and near by Island through a bridge, which Indian company promised to completed in 5 years time despite charging for it. China completed a much difficult bridge in this time frame for a less interest amount and a 100 Million Dollar free aid. - India failed to completed a single housing projects given in Greater Male Area despite payments being made to complete them in 5 years. China did a mega 25 story, 7 buildings in 5 years + rand reclamation.
India gave 2 billion dollars to Maldives a couple years back and 4 billion to Srilenka after Chinese debt collectors came to collect. They took the money and still ran back to China.

We need to come to terms with some things: 1. Maldives has some real simmering hate, some of which surfaced in the recent incident. The Maldives government may have put some ash on the fire by suspending the 3 ministers, but the underlying problem remains. In the long term, we have to find a way to address this at beyond band aid solutions to have a friendly relation and as a neighbor we must seek to find that. 2. We have the right to develop our country and for that infrastructure whether for industrial economy or tourism. 3. In a Global world we should set our sights high and seek to be the best in whatever we do. Based on World Tourism Organization tourist numbers in top holiday islands we see the following - we should learn from all of them and aim to be within 3-5 years amongst this top 10 destination: Mallorca, Spain: 13.3 million, Tenerife, Spain: 10.2 million, Phuket, Thailand: 9.3 million, Gran Canaria, Spain: 8.1 million, Bali, Indonesia: 6.7 million, Dominican Republic: 6.5 million, Mauritius: 6.4 million, Maldivian Islands: 5.2 million, Cyprus: 4.1 million. Santorini, Greece: 3.8 million 4. It is not just about blindly saying we have beaches as there are plenty beaches - it is always about the uniqueness and branding it so. Ultimately island holidays cater to ACTIVITY - (relaxation, family fun, cultural immersion, party and nightlife), THEME - (Romance, wellness, eco-tourism, culinary delight, festivals and events) or BUDGET - (luxury, mid-range, budget friendly), SEASON - (summer getaway, winter escape, etc). Remember Lakshadweep is an archipelago of 36 islands - so real estate is limited and should therefore be smartly developed. Let us not forget we also have Andaman and Nicobar which is an archipelago of 572 islands. Criticism can be a valuable tool for growth, even if it stings at first. By using it as an opportunity to learn and improve, we can become the best version of ourself. So let us take a deep breath and get working.

I have been to Maldives once 4 years ago and the public view against India is very negative even more negative than Pakistan in few cases. In simple term majority of Maldivians hate Indian but I do not see any point of Maldives people hating us. In past we helped them a lot and their government was very friendly toward us. Moreover, few people in Maldives have very regressive feeling toward Indians because they still think that Normal Indians poop on street or fields or most people live in slums. According to them India is no better than any Sub Saharan African nation and they had same kind of behaviour toward African tourist visiting Maldives. They think very low about Indian and African people in general. Maldivians has a sense of superiority because they think that they are more richer compare to anyone in the region
