AliasUndercover . There is absolutely no contemporaneous documentation that people were seeing the Marfa lights in the late 1800s. Not even a blurb in a newspaper. The first documentation of the lights is from the 1940s, in an era when cars and electric ranch lights were ubiquitous. Several rigorous scientific investigations over the past thirty years have all reached a firm conclusion that, sadly, the Marfa lights are car headlights and taillights on the highway that cuts through the low mountains. Texans like tall tales.

​@@BigCroca My son and I saw almost the same thing. We were fascinated and delighted by lights (stars?) getting bigger and more colorful as the night progressed. At least 20 or so and they seemed to be coming closer. It would be a single light or 3 or 4 combined together becoming brighter and larger. I was reminded of small kids playing hide and seek, leap frog, chase me..quite a show! We were the only ones left, besides another person a distance away from us. It was 1am when we left and the lights were moving closer to us as described in the comment above. At that point we got a little worried.

Many years ago I had a friend that lived in the Costa Rican rain forest. He described the mountains there as having unexplained lights as described in Marfa.

All science has been based off of things that we see and those things that aren’t norm to a society, then society won’t believe it. I lived in the area and have talked to a few people that have seen the lights up close. Mostly on the road between Alpine and Marfa. They always explain it the exact same way. A glowing orb of fire. Talk to the locals. They’ll say the same thing I promise.

If you’ve ever been to the viewing area as I have multiple times, you will quickly learn to identify both kinds of lights, which can be seen in roughly the same area. Once you’ve seen a big display of the true Marfa lights, you will be a believer like everyone else who has witnessed them in person and is convinced and mystified.

When you try to get closer to the lights, they disappear. They're only visible from one spot and looking in one direction.

I watched an old episode of Unsolved Mysteries and people on that show said they are like a rainbow, the closer you try to get, you seem to just chase them without actually reaching them.

You'd think that setting up 3 or 4 spots in the area would help configure where they most likely originate and from there they could learn more. I'm not convinced on the plasma and tectonic plates theory unless there is earthquake activity in that area. It's just odd that they can't get some sort of fix on a location. Crazy.

I think the land may be private property and violators can and will likely get shot, it is an open carry state and Texas residence justify shooting from the hip then ask questions later ..

You're a funny guy. We have no idea what gravity is and have only theories about what light is. We don't even know what is consciousness. Additionally there is a ton of phenomena that is similiar to Marfa lights like green fireballs, foo fighters, ball lightnings and Hessdalen lights. We don't know what these are either.

Many things we know now were mysteries 50 years ago, 100 years ago, and so on. At some point fire was a mystery. The explanation - in physics and chemistry about what a fire is wouldn't make sense to the Neanderthals any more than the scientific explanation of how consciousness may work to us now. Doesn't mean it won't happen.

Every category I listed has had major advances in understanding them compared to what was understood and explainable historically. We may not understand what gravity is, but we have discovered many of its properties and how to do highly accurate calculations and models based on that knowledge - which is light years more than what was known thousands or even hundreds of years ago. In terms of plain matter, the advances in chemistry and physics have grown by leaps and bounds by the discoveries and knowledge about those little particles called atoms - and then their subparticals called electrons, protons, and neutrons - and now even further into the quantum particles. Resulting in masssive gains in knowing how to manipulate them into a near infinite number of combinations for all sorts of ends. Quantum partical based computer systems are around the corner for mass production. These particles giving even more answers to how and why matter is and works. Again, tell this knowledge we have about these fields to people from not they far in our past and they would think you were crazy. There is always more to learn and discover and because we haven't learned Nd discovered everything doesn't mean we throw out the process or all previously gained knowledge as irrelevant. That is insane.
