i do not think you are going to get many people that are interested in this team until Lou and son are dismissed. The game has passed them by, how do you have an 82 year old run any business. This team will stink for the next 3 years, no first rounders for the last 4 years, thanks to Lou. He signs d-men to long term deals and never addressed the lack of offense, this guy stinks as a GM, the owners are not very smart for keeping this old man around

This team NEEDS to make trades over the off season and next few years to come! If Lou doesn’t, he’s held accountable. It then will be time for him to step down if the Isles don’t vastly improve Roy has done a lot since his coaching position as of January 20 of this year yet it’s a team effort plus consistent play and goal tending

I don’t think it’s fair to put Sam Reinhart (who was never played like this until his UFA year) in the same category as Matthew Tkachuk. Carter Verhaeghe (clutch player) and Aleksander Barkov. I have no idea what people are watching? Gustav Forsling is easily a top 5 (I personally think he’s a top 3) his defensive fundamentals are off the charts and not only is he defensively gifted, but his hockey IQ is off the charts! He’s also very offensive minded and that’s what separates him apart from other top defensive defensemen. He’s an elite defenseman with elite offensive skills and unfortunately, he doesn’t get enough credit for being an elite offensive defenseman because he never gets caught pinching in and yet pinches, but at the correct times He’s also as clutch as Hell! Isles are nowhere near competing with Florida. Isles are too old and too slow. Trade some top players for draft picks. We need youth and speed. Let's rebuild now. I don't want to finish in the basement for 5 seasons or more just to get some good draft picks. I would trade just about any player that they could get some first round draft picks for. One of the goalies, Anders Lee, Brock Nelsen, Palmieri, maybe even Barzal. Tell the fans we're rebuilding. Lou has to go immediately too. And we need accountability and tough coaching. If your effort is weak, you go to Bridgeport for a month. Look at John Tortorella at end of regular season with flyers, he made his captain a healthy scratch to send a message. I'm starting to wonder if the Isles organization has allowed a country club setting to take hold in the locker room.
@LockedOnIslanders
@LockedOnIslanders 3 месяца назад
The country club atmosphere is a criticism leveled at the organization. I think the fans would tolerate a rebuild if ownership explained it properly, but the owners don't want to do that. What you say makes sense, but it won't happen as long as Lou is GM, he doesn't believe in rebuilding. Thanks for the comment, barriem5318.

I know I’m in the online minority (and I recognize they are a business that needs to generate excitement in the fan base), but I think this team is closer to being the Trotz style conference finals team than trying to catch up to the elites. And I do think Lou pulled off a miracle starting with Garth’s contracts and losing Tavares and making them competitive in all but one covid impacted season. Trotz had it right - we need an identity. Roy needs to give us a new one and Lou can adjust at the margins. Find diamonds in the rough. The dream of landing elite free agents is a dream. No top FA has EVER come here. We are the underdogs!!

Morning Gil, you nailed it but besides the obvious problems of Lou and son being the GM’s and having dealt away the future for years, there’s the “ who wants to wait 10 years “ for an actual team that could contend for a cup ? Yes I saw the 80’s live and what’s happened since then has been more than disappointing, my only other team that I’ve not seen win the big one has been the Jets ! The fix starts with the owners and like I’ve said previously that it’s all about $$$ for them and unless that changes the team will be mediocre and fans are going to be disgusted and find other teams and sports to watch.

Actually it is Lou's fault. All the other top teams in the east made moves before the trade deadline in March. All of them except the Isles. And the next day Lou told the media that he was happy with his roster. Utter failure on his part. No surprise the Isles were useless in the playoffs.

@@barriem5318 I’ve been waiting for a cup since the eighties so Lou finally brought some respect to this team, general manager of the year in 2020, bringing in trotz, trotz came because of Lou, we went to semifinals twice so has been much better in my view than recent history, I don’t blame him for believing in our players, I was rooting for them
@barriem5318

@@eastudio-K Garth Snow did more for the team than Lou. Lou has overseen a huge disaster. We went to game 6 in 2020 and game 7 in 2021 eastern finals both times against Tampa, who went on to win cup. We were arguably one or two player acquisitions from a cup finals. And we were building a new arena. We had Trotz fresh from the cup with capitals. All that momentum pissed away. We miss the playoffs following year. Lou does basically nothing in offseason. New arena opens. Somehow Trotz leaves and we keep Lane Lambert? The best coach in league leaves and we make Lambert a rookie head coach. Been downhill from there. Lou doesn't do enough. We should have fired his a$$ and picked up Kyle Dubas when Toronto fired him. That's a real GM. What did he do when he got to Penguins, did a complicated three way trade to move Erik Karlsson in the year he won the Norris trophy. Lou is useless at this point.

Back in 2015 Garth Snow traded defenseman Griffin Reinhart to Oilers for a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick. Snow then flipped that 2nd round pick to Tampa for a 1st round pick. Those draft pick moves by Snow brought the islanders Barzal and Beauvillier. You think Lou is capable of that kind of trade magic?

If Barzal gets a top winger I think that line of Hovart and Barzal and ? Can be an elite line. I think Barzal has the potential to be as good as those guys on Florida. The rest of the islanders team as far as offense drags these guys down (aside from Nelson) and almost makes it as if the islanders have no stars. But isles have no depth after them Barzal and Hobart are very good to great then next level is Nelson. But Florida has 4 lines all humming and damn Florida plays such a great game in their zone and their forecheck in the offensive zone gets those fast teams to slow down from exhaustion. Kind of like the islanders a few yrs ago that beat the Panthers and what did Florida do that the islanders didn’t - they traded, signed and drafted a team to go further as the islanders did the opposite. Drives me crazy, the teams that the islanders were ahead of only a few seasons ago are now miles ahead of the islanders. Ugh!!!

Fasching should be on the "4th line" with McLean and Engvall. That would be a competitive line, with good speed and decent at both ends of the ice. Maybe not the same chemistry (yet) as the CCCCMM line, but their youth (less miles on their bodies) should keep them healthy most of the year.

NO isles can't compete with the likes of cats or oil. They have high end skill plus fla's commitment to shutting teams down makes them a hard team to beat. And how can isles compete against that with no assets or cap room to do anything plus no first for 4 years? Fla was built with high picks like ekblad and barkov. Throw in some shrewd trades for reinhart, tkachuk, bennett, plus f a signings like bobrovsky, verhaghe (remember him louzer?). Combine that skill/talent with a coaches all buy in work ethic and that's why cats are in finals second straight season. A nice no income tax state too makes players want to play for fla. gm zito gambled fla's future away for the win now approach and it worked. Oil's job was easy. Just tank for the high picks until you hit the jackpot. And oil didn't even tank in the drafts they got mcd and leon. And after nearly 10 years of filling out the roster around those two stars oil are finally in the finals. If isles would have had that kind of top end talent with the work ethic of trotz they could have won a cup. Lack of top end skill showed against tb in two straight cf and took isles down. Now that ship has sailed. Isles have to get in on some high lottery picks, assets to make moves, and get lots of cap relief (plus a 21st century gm) and begin a painful re-build if they ever hope to be where cats and oil are. btw knights mem. cup loss was not heartbreaking to me. I was glad to see p0s dale hunter go down. And that loss never happens if knights don't foolishly ice the puck with about a minute to go. Then another lame flip out attempt cost them when d man knocked puck down and got the shot on goal to which spirit knocked a loose puck home for game winner. Then in typical knight fashion they cried that the goalie was interfered with when replays clearly show the puck was loose because simpson didn't cover it up so tuff shit london you fkd up last minute and lost. And the look on smug loser hunter's face as they lost-priceless. Good times indeed. And george is ahl bound for sure. After seeing him at mem. cup nothing really stood out. Had 1 a and was on ice for a couple of goals getting limited ice time in close games when knights needed more offense. I could see george as a second pair d man teamed with an offensive guy who takes care of the back end with his skating ability. That's about his ceiling.
