In this video I will be comparing my Wen scroll saw to my Dewalt scroll saw. I will be sharing the pros and the cons of these saws in my own opinion. In this video I will give you the basic idea of how to load a scroll saw blade into each saw. We will also cut out a simple flower together. Stay tuned until the end for a tip to change the performance of any saw!

Kinda like comparing a Ford to a Ferrari, lol. Of course the Dewalt is a better saw...at double the price. The WEN performs very well for its price

I enjoy reading comments and learning what others think of different tools. I have had my Dremel scroll saw for about 20 years, probably have 1000 hours on it, and love it. I had a chance to buy a barely used Dewalt several years ago so thought I would "upgrade". Although it is a nice saw, I did not like it and sold it within weeks. Compared to my Dremel, I found it miserable to change blades. There was no dust collection. Also, my Dremel will cut thicker wood. I am sad that Dremel hasn't made a scroll saw in years and when I eventually have to replace it, there are few options without spending $1200 to $1500.

I'm on my SECOND DW788 while I got my first one sent to the shop for maintenance. It took awhile in the shop and I needed a scroll saw so I ordered a second one. I sold the first one to my neighbor a couple of years ago and he hasn't used it yet! Bummer! I also bought an "arm lift" for mine which is a great help changing project holes or changing blades. Two thumbs up for the DW788!

Sounds terrible! Coming from the Harbor Freight saw, the Wen was good for me at that time. Only because the blade changes were easier. Now that I have my Dewalt the Wen felt like a pain to change a blade out.😬 I hope your Delta makes it back sooner then later!

I can not afford a Dewalt. So I got a cheaper WEN 3921. Now it is not the absolute best one out there. But it is not as big as some other models out there, and it costs a lot less. It does have a vibration issue, but it can easily be fixed. And you should really not go over 2 inch thick wood in the soft wood department. And less than that with hardwoods. But I am a beginner and do not want hardwood yet. So the WEN I got will work fine for my intentions. The type of scroll saw you should buy is the kind that suits your needs and your budget best.

Have a good look at this Wen scroll saw as it is a generic 16” ( 406mm )scroll saw that comes under a multitude of different brand names all over the globe and are basically all the same . The quality of electrical parts might differ and might come with different add-ons , colours, brand names etc. Have a good look at the castings and table as they are all identical and probably made in a country with less scruples. Buyer beware .

I'm a big Delta fan. I had a Delta 2 speed 16" scroll saw that I bought 25 years ago and it was a head of it's time. You would of LOVED it! Model Model 40-560. NO vibration what so ever, super fast blade changing, faster than anything on the market today. Had to sell all my large power tools as we downsized and sold our home 2 years ago. Anyways, the Delta saw has some of the same features as the DeWalt, only $100 cheaper.

I notice when you raised the arm of the Dewalt saw it stayed up by itself. Did you tighten the screw at the back to add more tension. There are aftermarket gadgets available to hold the arm up when changing blades or raising for internal cuts, but you didn't need any of that. On mine, I slide a block of wood under it to hold it up. Thanks for the informative video. Not sorry I bought the Dewalt.

They say scroll saws are one of the safest power tools you can get. That is one big reason why I got my own. I need a little finesse too because I am looking at shaping some custom chess pieces. Using the 3D cutting method with my chosen wood the scroll saw is ideal for this kind of work. They have some good tutorials and books on carving some wood chess pieces and construction of chessboards with scroll saws. That is also a reason why I chose a scroll saw. They are not so bad. They just need a little practice to learn how to use correctly.

I used the Harbor Freight saw for a short time. The vibration was actually less then the Wen. The great thing about Dewalt is that there is not much vibration. It's so heavy. My biggest issue with the Harbor Freight one was that I could not use pinless blades. It came with adapters, but they were useless. I do detailed pieces and need to use pinless blades. There are also better quality and more selection for pinless blades. I also struggled with tightening the Harbor freight tension knob. That was a me issue, though. I struggle tightening with my fingers. I hope this helps. The Harbor freight saw wasn't bad. I feel like it depends what you want to make and how much you will be using it. I am a huge fan of the Dewalt. I also use it alot. Hope this helps!!

My tool experience is with...first, a 16" Craftsman using pin style blades. Clunky and I was afraid it would bring the building down by vibration. Next was a Sakura (now PS Wood). I used that saw until I wore out the bronze bushings that secure the moving arms to the solid frame, and that after 15 years of solid use. Added the quick change kit just before it's near terminal demise. I may still fix it. Now I have a RBI Hawk. I like it fine. Just a little less vibe than the Sakura, but the clincher is electronic speed control vs the five speed belted pulleys on the Sakura. The cheap saws are just that...cheap. Mostly I feel they are uncomfortable and far to vibratory to operate effectively. The pin style blades are so big and unwieldy as to render them only marginally better than a corded jigsaw. If you own one of those, go visit someone you know who has a mid-level saw...pinless blades, EVS, quick change upper blade clamp. You will be hooked for life! I have had the opportunity to spend 15 minutes on a DeWalt. I think it's at the top of the mid-level saws. I wouldn't be embarrassed to say I owned one. But no matter how you roll...you need high quality blades, lots of them, a Deadman style foot petal, and a good light preferably with magnification. For years and years I had a 22W circular florescent lamp, but recently switched to LED. I use and toss blades like they fall freely from the heavens. I tend to tension blades tighter than most as I seek to diminish blade deflection during sharp turns. Go-to blade is #5 reverse-tooth, although I also use #7, #9 and on rare occasions #2's. I buy #5's by the gross!

As for children noise, that is music, its hope.
@Tensquaremetreworkshop
@Tensquaremetreworkshop Год назад
@@FrancisoDoncona Normally, I would agree- at the time I felt is was a poor choice of terms on my part, and I tend to pedantry too (not a pejorative in my eyes, but a liking for correctness). However, I found one dictionary definition 'talk or write about (a topic) in detail, taking into account different issues or ideas.' No requirement for more than one person (which 'writing' would prevent anyway). As the video was stated to be a comparison, this fits rather well to this definition. Especially as the text also says 'we will also cut out a simple flower together' which suggests we are taking part- we may object to that statement, but it supports the 'discussion' aspect. 'you reduce the background music as we speak...' mixed pronouns perhaps, but it does not explain having background music at all. For those who like background music, why not let the viewer choose their own? They can play the music of their choice, at the volume of their choice. The chances of the video maker getting both right is low, so (once again) why do it?

Pegas makes top notch aftermarket Blade clamps for the Dewalt saw

I may have to check those out

I recently installed the Pegas clamps and I'm very disappointed with them. The vibration level of the saw increased which is opposite of what their advertising claimed. Blade changes may be slightly easier with the Pegas clamps but not worth the $80 cost of the clamps.

What size bolt do I need to replace the knob?

For the Wen, it's a M4-.70 x 16 hex cap screw found at probably any hardware store.

Why not mention the costs?

Sorry, I should have. I guess I figured if someone was watching that they were probably already shopping for them and knew the cost. I believe the cost difference is around $350-$400 without the stand and light add ons.
