The Chinese migrants arrive in Mexico, and immediately end up on the receiving end of traumatic experiences. Mexico will soon turn out to be the most treacherous part of their journey, with pressure from the government, drug cartels, and smuggling gangs.
Meanwhile, in the US, sentiment is rapidly changing towards migration. Texas makes it a criminal offence to cross the Wall. New York City starts to evict migrants from shelters. Ahead of the Presidential Election, former President Donald Trump threatens a mass deportation.

4:47 As the father of a two-year-old girl, the tender voice of the little girl saying goodbye in this scene brought me to tears. Actually, I've not only watched Du Wei's work but also numerous other RU-vidrs' videos on walk the line, including those by Spanish-speaking RU-vidrs (I have a basic understanding of Spanish). However, this particular moment in this film is the only one that made me cry. I believe that, nowadays, walk the line is no longer solely motivated by the search for freedom or escaping hardship, which carries a hint of ideological undertone. There are many interests involved. In this film, Du Wei exposes corrupt immigration officers, bandits who treat people like commodities, and so on. However, she did not mention the most crucial point: the intermediaries on Chinese social media who are massively encouraging others to walk the line. They conceal the truly deadly risks involved in jungle, border crossing and depict life after illegal entry into the United States as a prosperous middle-class lifestyle. They even deliberately emphasize that being pregnant or having young children will significantly increase the chances of successfully. By doing so, they lure these innocent, pitiable people into potentially fatal risks. All of this is because walk the line to USA has become a business. They collect huge intermediary fees without caring about the lives or deaths of those who choose to walk the line.

Losers in life blame the government for all their failures, then illegally obtain credit cards, burden their relatives in the country with debts, and flee the country. Losers plus criminals use lies to numb themselves and make others sympathize with them. In fact, they are real losers. After arriving in the United States, they are still losers. In the end, the only people who make money are the intermediaries who give them illusory dreams.

Watched all three parts last night; what an incredibly informative, heartbreaking and magnificent documentary. Most people, including myself, have no real sense of what the journey is like for these immigrants, especially the Chinese. I have a not-quite 13-year-old daughter, and the thought of her having to endure a journey like this is terrifying. But the most heartbreaking aspect has to be the fact that once they reach the United States, they mostly realize that it’s not really much better than where they left. Yes, they have freedom of speech and certain other political freedoms that maybe they don’t have in China, but their living conditions probably aren’t any better, and they face a lot of hostility and uncertainty here, which is likely just as stressful. Thank you so much for bringing us this story. Wei Du needs to win all the awards!

Well China is facing a huge economic collaspe which is one reason why China is not flying these people back. The unemployment in China currently is huge and 85% of stores and factories have been closed. Also in China you get no medical care unless you pay first and people do starve in China. But so much depends on finding a job. In China the normal work day is 12 noirs long 6 day a week. Unfortunally they get stuck in the worse area of town that most of use do not even bother to visit.

I’ve watched all 3 parts. Thank you, CNA, Wei Du and her team. This TV report made me so sad for all these chinese people. I traveled a lot for my previous job and know the reality of life in USA and China. I would never advise a chinese family to leave their country and move to USA. It's an ugly business in which some people can die. It's tough to imagine with all social medias how they idealize life in USA. I'm always shocked by the growing number of homeless people in USA. Living in France, my country, is nowodays also very difficult. We have here many immigrants people that cause a lot of troubles. It's hard everywhere and I really don't like this world in which people struggle for their life. Hope all these chinese families have found a better future 🙏

As a Chinese, I think these families are just bored and have nothing to do so they want to "Walk the Line". With a few hundred thousand yuan they can live very happily in rural China, or they want too many unrealistic things and imagine America to be too beautiful. I guess they are regretting it now. In China, as long as you are willing to work hard and live seriously, it is so comfortable and cozy. After watching the documentary, most of those who walk the line are unrealistic and do not live down to earth.

As a Chinese who person still living in mainland China and has been lived abroad for years living. It is quite hard for me to understand why people choose such a path. This actually was an interesting documentary. For these people to leave their home and go through hell to get to the US, Either they are misguided or their homeland was unbearable. However, I find that many of their dreams were delusional after they landed in America. From the likes of this one single documentary, in comparison to the other migrants in Latin America. Most of these Chinese migrants have money, look well fed. Can read and write and have cell phones. That says it all. Life wasn't so bad in China compared to other Latin immigrants escaping violence, death, or otherwise. Every situation is different for different persons, but all the Chinese migrants in this documentary tend to have much much much more resources at their disposal for their journey than any of the Latin compatriots.

This is what I’m struggling to understand as well. The Chinese families are clearly middle-class with access to education, healthcare, secure jobs and good technology, yet they couldn’t have spent time doing thorough research on what the migration journey is truly like and what awaits them in the US? Even if some were to argue and say that the CCP blocks international news and social media propaganda sells the fake American dream, millions of Chinese citizens have found ways to skirt that through VPN and give themselves access to proper information. I wholly empathize with perilous journey and can’t imagine what must’ve been going through their minds as they worried if they were gonna make it across the border at all, but what comes across in this documentary, very sadly, is the ignorance of these families and the delusion they’ll have a better life in the US. No matter how many years they spend living there, they’ll always be seen as outsiders and won’t be able to truly integrate into American society.

As an American, I am against illegal migrants crossing the border into the USA, but you cannot blame these people when the border is so porous and basically no penalty. We all know there is a proper procedure to legally enter the USA. I have worked overseas, (five countries in Africa, Middle East, and southeast Asia...), and I had to have proper documents and a work visa in order to work in the country. Also with all these countries I worked in, they had a strict policy with illegal aliens. I always had to carry a copy of my work visa or passport. You'd be kicked out immediately, put in jail for a long time or in a couple countries even shot crossing the border if you tried to illegally. This is an excellent documentary giving a humane perspective of the determination some nationalities have to live in America and the dangers they face. This documentary also shows the human vultures out there to take advantage of these people. The smuggling trade has become a big business for Mexico and south American countries. I hope this documentary is available in China so those who are thinking to illegally enter the USA will have a reality check not to do it. It's not worth the danger. There are good paying jobs in the USA for skilled, professionals but you need to enter legally.

I can tell the country is getting better year after year, but there is only one thing that makes people uncertain: the future. I could also see that China is amazing, but to be honest, it isn't a country where I would spend the rest of my life. This documentary opened my eyes of the suppression the Chinese feel in their own country. So much so they fell into the lures of immigration agencies that misled the beautiful stories of the American dream. Thank you Wei Du and the team for sharing this story. The journey has been perilous, but executed so respectfully to the stories of the migrants. I am terribly humbled in my country. I wish the families all the best in their new journey on the unfamiliar ground.

Thank you CNA for this eye opening documentary series! Having been to the US recently, I can’t help but to think the “American Dream” is in the past. It seems these Chinese migrants have been misguided with the harsh truth of the reality of life there as an illegal migrant. With the current economic climate and social issues such as drug addicts and homelessness in major cities, it is indeed not what they’d imagine. Please consider doing a follow up on these migrants after 6-12 months.

this is One of the most obvious pro-American sinophobic documentaries of this decade. Illegal Migrants arrive in the USA from India, Taiwan, indeed from all over the world. The specific focus on Chinese crossing the border, particularly when safer ways of illegally"overstaying"the visa, has been a talking point only fringe USA right-wing outlets talk about

@@user-mg1wg4tb5w I was making fun over things and ppl that are not supposed to be made fun of... But the Baba character simply conveys such a vibe to this documentary. I know I can't speak for the director Ms Du Wei and team who have actually done an excellent job recording the (in)famous Line journey. But I suspect somewhere into the journey, seeing how ppl like Baba dream of life to come in America with a literal religious zeal as opposed to what's really going on in the actual America she's known for life (even though she's from Chongqing my home city in China), it might be irresistible for Ms Du Wei to start feeling a bit farcical, albeit not without sympathy about many of these line walkers perceptions of certain things (AMERICA, CHINA, DREAM AND REALITY.... )

Having watched all three episodes, I have immense respect for CNA, Wei Du, and the team; Wei's courage is commendable. The migration route closely resembles the slave trade between the 16th and 19th centuries, with the key difference being one of proactivity versus passivity. These individuals simply seek to flee burdensome debts and begin anew elsewhere. My hope is that they achieve what they are searching for.

How do you know they have debits? Do you know if you have large debit you cannot leave China because you cannot get a passport. These people had to have a passport to travel to Turkey and then Ecuador. You have to have a good social score to get a passport or even get a train or bus ticket. As far as owning momey because there house was never built then they are running away from a lot more horrible scams, then someone asking $20.00 to stay on the bus. If they were so poor how did they pay for this? All the plane tickets ect. Even after what these people went though you still have to trash them instead of understand how horrible living under a communist country is. YOU CANNOT LEAVE CHINA UNLESS THEY SEE YOU AS A UPSTANDING CITIZEN. If these people go back to China I doubt the country will ever let them out because China is limiting passpprt even more. The sad thing is they would have done better trying to get a tourist visa amd then applying for asylum when they got here. The problem is getting a Visa can take up to a year to get.

@@jeffng1712How do you know these people own money? You cannot even get credit cards in China. Also if your social score is to low ( how much debt you is a big part of the score ) you cannot get a passport or even a bis ticket if it is really bad. Also if people own money on a home that was never built who really did get scam? Basically they are running from millionaire scammers to ones that just take $20 instead of life savings. Many of these people have college degrees. Meanwhile wealthy Chinese who probably got rich by scammimg Chinese people can just buy there way to a green cards and eventually citizenship.
