I got my mom one of the electric wine openers several years ago because she loves wine, but has really bad arthritis in her hands. She loved it and, as far as I know, is still using it.

6:59 constructive criticism: when taking the temperature of something, try to not have the thermometer touching the bottom of the vessel. you aren't measuring the temp of the liquid if it is touching.

Yeah, especially since both wine coolers were on the bottom of the glass, which is where he put the thermometer.

And this is what happens when people without knowledge spread misinformation. You dont need to, Thermometer are designed to avoid this. If you every seen a thermometer in life then you will notice the measuring area the metal tip is extended a lot further than the tip. It takes average temperature from the surrounding liquid and not just the tip.

@@GameControlYT I am a baker/cook myself and I have a few different types of thermometers in my kitchen. I have the instructions for my digital thermometer in my hands and it says: "Note: It is important that the tip of the thermometer does not touch the bottom of the container."

my first thought seeing that big red wine opener was that if you put a gold cap on it you could make it look like a shotgun shell and sell it as a novelty product.

The Vochill seems like a great idea since I live in Fort Lauderdale where it's always warm weather outside. It would be great to have this since we enjoy our patios year-round.

Frozen grapes also work well to keep wines that are meant to be chilled cold. In my case the bottle is usually done before the grapes get warm.

Nothing wrong with chilling red wine as it is supposed to be served at 'room temperature' which is considered 62 °F and that is considerably cooler than most people keep their rooms, which is around 76 °F. So your red wine should be chilled a bit. Just a free tip from a 'wine snob'. 😎

@@barcham where on earth is the ambient temperature of a room 62, we always kept our thermostat at 69/70, my mom keeps hers at 72-75,and I know some people who don't use ac at all 🥵 (to be fair they're Canada friends but it still gets up to 80-90 in Winnipeg for a couple months) I like 20 Celsius for room temperature (68F)

@@katyungodly 'Room temperature' has absolutely nothing to do with what temp people keep their room at. That was probably the average temperature in Europe or France over a century ago when such things were put down as measurements. Different books will give you different temps, but the range is usually from 62-68 °F, no warmer. By the way, I live in Montreal and our summers are very warm, at times topping 95 °F, over 100 when humidity is factored in. Canada is not exactly a wasteland covered in ice. My own thermostats are set at 16 °C in the winter months.

Too many people serving red wine at too warm a temperature. Should be somewhere between 15C-18C, depending on the wine. Beaujolais should be cooled even further down to 12C.

I absolutely love my wine opener. Mine is black but I think it's the same brand you tested. I have a chiller stick that goes in the wine bottle. I didn't see any change at all when I used it.

1: It would have been interesting to see if the electric wine opener can put the cork BACK into the wine bottle. 2: I'm not sure of how hot it gets this time of year in Vegas, but I think you're in the perfect area to test how long the VoChill will last outdoors. If it can last 45 minutes in the desert, I imagine it'll last 45 minutes in other places. 3: 8:38 I think you meant tobacco pipe. 😎 Still, this was a great video because my wife loves drinking wine, and a couple of these gadgets could make great Christmas gifts.

I had one of the electric cork screws but it stopped working after a few months. It would drill though the cork but didn’t have enough torque to pull it out. Worked fine before that though.

I don’t drink much, if at all, but I did get into this kick of drinking a glass of wine a day (from all those health benefits I kept hearing about haha). So I bought that first product (not sure if it’s identical) from Target (mine is black) and it works exactly like how James demonstrates. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this making his Best Products of the Year list in November.

I have coffee coolers shaped like little barrels that can be used the same ways. They are small enough to be used as ice cubes.

Ooh that last one looked like it would give you some of that yummy freezer burn taste. May or may not be noticable depending on a bunch of factors. I want one of those electric wine openers but it doesn't seem like there is any established name brand - just the same Ali-Express-style item under different names.

You could perhaps use Whiskey Stones to keep wine chilled as well. They are tasteless and reusable. You just pop them in the freezer, then when you're ready to have a drink; Simply drop them in the glass and it keeps the drink cold for quite a while.

That electric corkscrew works great, about the only downside is not being able to stab a zombie in the temple like a normal manual corkscrew but life is made of a lot of trade offs. I guess I'll just have to grab the nearest phillips head screwdriver to dispatch the undead...

I have a 30+ year old manual version of your bottle opener. It’s the original and it’s called the Screwpull. They’re now branded as Le Creuset Corkscrews, but they work exactly the same. Mine is the pocket model. Unless you’re someone with mobility/range of motion issues, the model I have is much better for the environment because there’s no batteries. And if something happens to the screw, it’s easily replaced as it’s a separate piece. That is if Le Creuset hasn’t shirked the quality of the original. Like I said, mine is over 30 years old and still works like a champ. Personally I could do without that wine glass holder chiller. It’s pretty spendy for a very limited use product. The Face Freeze thing, on the other hand, is at least dual purpose. That would feel very nice around the eyes.

The problem with most chillers is that they don't compare well with ice because of the latent heat effect. It takes WAY more heat to melt ice than it does to raise the temperature (or lower it), it's like 30 to 1. To take water at 32.1F and drop it to 32f but frozen takes about 30 units of energy compared to lowering the temperature from 34F to 33F (which would take 1 unit of energy) The same thing happens when water evaporates. It is why rubbing alcohol feels cool on your skin. It really likes to evaporate and sucks a lot of heat from the surrounding area in order to do so. Putting metal or plastic in the freezer completely bypasses this effect because there is no latent heat effect.

@@barcham No it doesn't. It just cools from a MUCH lower temperature. If you could get water down to zero degrees, it would take just as much energy to raise water from 0F to 30F as it does to get 32F ice to 32f water. Liquid Nitrogen can be hundreds of degrees below zero (as low as 320f below zero) and dry ice is 109F below zero. If you are disputing the latent heat effect, I suggest you go argue with God. Also, the density of plastic is nowhere near that of water.

New kitchen? Wine Openers, bought the In Laws a Rabbit Wine Opener. The Father In Law had issues with it Rabbit replaced it after he had used it for 2 years and the new one is now 2+ years. From its construction to ease of use the Rabbit Electric Wine Opener is awesome, and rechargeable.

Great Channel... but I wouldn't get the wine opener because it pierces the cork all the way through... you're not technically supposed to do that... as it often can push a piece of cork into the wine... Would be good if you could trigger the reversal before the corkscrew went all the way through.

It’s not a drill bit, it’s a cork screw on a drill, so the hole is not different than a normal cork screw.

In my experience, room temperature wine is generally how expensive wines are served. Typically cheaper wines are often chilled. Try and see how the flavor changes with cold vs room temperature wines.
