I bought quite expensive sparkling wines to beat a cheap champagne. Franciacorta, Prosecco, Cremant, American sparkling wine, etc…. Which wine would win? -Wineking's instagram: jay.wineking #wineking #와인킹 #WineOlympics
Such incredible comradery! Maybe they can taste your new Pinot Noir in the next Olympics 😉 Also, I tried the Franciacorta this summer for 35 bux and it was very pleasant but not as good as a Ferrari 🥂
I would say that the italian answer to french champagne (even though champagne is king), is TrentoDOC, Ferrari is a great producer which is the pinnacle of italian bubbles. Their riserva del fondatore is on par quality wise with some of the great champagnes
Hi from Brescia, nearly Franciacorta, Jay. Unfortunately, you picked Ca' Del Bosco and that's too unkindly famous for kids to drink in discos and clubs to prove they are rich, like belvedere.
Good video. I agree with Peter I have yet to find a Franciacorta that is on the same level as Champagne. I have had Cava's, especially pet-nat that were very tasty. Also as Peter said it is difficult to find awful Champagne. My tip is to go to Champagne and visit rather flat wineries like in Bassuet , due to climate change there the Chardonnay doesn't pick up too much sun, therefore they can develop longer on the branch, which makes for a better champagne.
wonderful exposition on the differences between champagne and sparklers. a serious wine... so well put. you never want to gulp real champagne but prosecco etc yep.
Peter, you were the one who taught me to love Champagne. You were my inspiring voice on the road that I've always turned to when in doubt, thank you, Peter. And after I've spent so many hundreds of euros on Champagne, and so many attempts to understand it, I'm happy that no one comes even close to my beloved wine. This Nicolas Feuillatte is not even an expensive or very fine wine. By the french standards that is, but no one comes close to it. Viva la France! Merci beaucoup, Peter!
I had a Nicolas Feuillatte a few days ago. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. There are other champagnes I'd rather drink, and even other sparkling wines at that price point (I'm a big fan of Ghram beck), but at £19 a bottle it was excellent value for money.
You’re lucky to live in the UK. By sheer distance, the lower end champagnes are cheaper because it costs less to ship and distribute them when you’re closer. The Nicolas feuillate costs £26.50 ($35) minimum in California. If i could get it for £19 it would taste even better…! The same thing works in reverse; top Napa valley wines that would sell for $100+ in the UK can be found for around $67 in the Bay Area, because where I live I am only 30 mins drive from Napa valley so shipping and distribution costs are way lower.
It's $39.99 here in Pennsylvania, it's still the cheapest 750ml from Champagne you can find on the shelves here. Annnd, it's worth it, Champagne is Champagne, always and forever. Looking forward to trying out their Sakura Rosé next.
I'm very surprised by the Crémant prices, here in France you generally see crémant around 10€, and for that it's a good QPR imho. I was in the Jura this summer and I bought six bottles at 9€ each at a domain, I definitely did not expect that $40 price tag (it was not from Tissot though).
But it's not fair to compare the prices in France and overseas directly. The cheapest but still very good Champagne at Carrefour will cost you around 12 or 13 euros, so your Crémant wasn't particularly cheap from that point of view.
Remember that Prosecco sweetness scale is Brut (most dry) to Demi Sec (most sweet). BUT "Dry" is the second sweetest category from 17-32 g/L ... Brut, Extra Dry, Dry, Demi-Sec. I like your channel very much! Maybe a Trentodoc would be more a style for Peter, for a slightly higher acidity than Franciacorta?
Yeah you would need to get an Extra Brut Cartizze to make the comparison work. Or even an Ex Brut/ Brut Prosecco from a select Rive vineyard. I do agree with Jay’s call of artificial peach. I found the Villa Sandi Cartizze to smell like Lipton’s Peach Ice Tea. Great to see Bisol and Ca’ Del Bosco called out as they really flush the market!
@@vitobowen8741 I agree. Might even skip the Prosecco for this round (keep it in the traditional method realm) and maybe later do a full on tank method competition from around the world. :-)
Italian producer here (not sparkling wine producer tho): Bisol isn't representative of the (not that high) quality of Prosecco. Same goes with Ca del Bosco. The easiest brands to find on a shelf are not always of the highest quality.
I came up with a good idea, take a wine cellar quiz or one of those websites that asks you questions about what types of things you like, like if you like coffee or dark chocolate or if you like citrus fruit, and then they send you wine based on how you answer. It's supposed to be for people who want to get into wine and by answering the questions they determine what they think you will like and send it to you. Let's see how accurate they are!
Great video! I hate it when they put crap like "exclusive" or other marketing crap on the bottle. It makes me not want to buy the wine. So most of the times I just pick up something else instead.
Hi guys! I’m from Franciacorta and I agree with your opinion on that bottle. Ca’ del Bosco is one of the “strongest” Franciacorta wine cellars and that bottle, trust me, is like a really base Franciacorta, although you pay it too much. So please come to Franciacorta to change your mind! ;)
It would be great if you could test an English Sparkling wine in round 2. We have some good stuff here - Nyetimber, Squerryes, Ridgeview, Camel Valley, Denbies just to name a few. Might be difficult to find in Cali though
New subscriber here, really enjoy Jay and Peter's video. The chemistry between you two is out of the world. Been learning so much about wine from you guys and it reignited my passion. Love Peter's amazing humor and Jay's trickery 😂
I paid this BBF from Tissot around 20€ in France and it was one of my favourite sparkling wines drank last year. Absolutely above most champagnes you can find in the market. You probably did not like it because it is a natural wine, but that is a pity... You should retaste it and get rid of these horrible flutes 😂
Would have loved to seen the Australian sparkling Arras Elite or Vintage in that tasting. I drink it in preference large house NV Champagne. It has the texture and concentration of a far more expensive Champagne
An interesting tasting of sparkling wine, I was surprised that the Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs did so well. Peter, you are not alone in believing that Franciacorta sparkling wines don't deliver on their promises and prices. I have found that Trentodoc Metodo Classico wines are much higher quality and have a much better QPR, particularly Ferrari's. If it's good enough to be used for F1 celebrations, it should fine for the rest of us. I personally drink Cava Reserva, Cremants, and Winzersekt Traditionelle Flaschengarung and MCC if I can find them.
I’d love to see a Brazilian sparkling wine tasting! They’re getting good scores around the world. Look for Casa Valduga, Cave Geisse and Garibaldi wineries. Cheers
Jay, in French you are supposed to pronounce the t at the end of "brut". No logic to it. Just the way it is. You work very hard on creating the proper sounds and speaking correctly so I figured I'd let you know...Plus, it's in your field, so...
So I watched it. So for my understanding it is only the visual part that do that they use those glasses. But from a wine perspective I would like to know why?
i'm from italy and i've never believed in franciacorta, like you said it does't delivers. Try some Trento next fight, way better quality for the money!
Nicolas Feuillatte is a popular champagne in France low price low quality you can find everywhere in supermarket for christmas, new year's eve... it s like J&B and Label 5 for Whisky...
I find it difficult to find domestic bubbly with the bread/yeast flavors I find in many French bubbly. I find many Cavas taste like generic bubbly. Prosecco is fine but doesn’t have a refined taste, which may be because of the slight sweetness and they remind me of Asti Spumante.
It wouldn't be too big of a challenge to folks who know varietal chracteristics but if they were all from the same region that used the same grape type then it could be fun.
One of my friend who works in the winery in Franciacorta works really hard. Every time I talk to him, I can feel his serious passion about the vines and wine making. In the region, there are also very serious people who care for the vines 365 days. And there are very hard working (also very talented) people who works for the winery. I know it's your channel, you can say whatever you want. But plese do not underestimate all Franciacorta with your easy words.
