At the end of his video, he decided to Longboard. He enjoyed riding more. Maybe one day he will try tricks again, but still rad he stuck with pushing around Spain.
I always feel like I’m the only adult beginner, and seeing these people struggle like me motivates me to keep trying, and maybe appreciate the little victories a bit more 😊
Yo don’t give up. Skating culture can be “elite” at times. They’ll throw around words like you are a poser etc. Don’t pay them any mind. You do you. If you can only ride without falling and that’s good for you, then that’s victory. Set your own goals.
Nope, you're not. Just got back into skateboarding after not skating since 2006(I sucked back then since I only skated for a few months). I'm 42 now. No reason to feel weird or awkward. Just do what makes you happy and let the gatekeepers be mad.
I was 42 when I for the first time ever stood on a skateboard. First thing I did was just learned to get on it and push. Everything after that was learning through braile and some tutelage from kids at the park. I'm now 2½ years into skate and ride ramps and bowls. Also being in my 40's, old bones knee braces, elbow, knee pads and helmet are a must
I've learned how to pop shove it in my home and I feel like I'm not going to progress anymore, unless somebody teaches me. The problem is: I'm scared of public places, I feel like everybody is judging me 24/7
I watched the second guys video you watched & it made me feel better about my level of skating 😅 Making me remember how hard it really is to skate 🛹 Love the content Ricky 🔥
I'm really loving these videos man. Thanks for taking the time to put them together as I know editing can be kind of arduous. Hope your knee is healing well so you can shred again in the near future!
Woah thank you all my friends were being mean because I learnt how to drop in in 1 week but this just told me I was improving faster than most other people thank you I will update progress every week on reply’s
Please make a video like that Ricky! Get some one who’s never skated and coach them! This would be a banger video and help you do things since you are injured
plz plz plz coach someone from no experience to an ollie or kickflip that would be amazing! could be a series too if you wanted to make it a weekly thing
Nice video! I remember how tough was at the beginning. I can't stand over my skate. I was 33 years old and falling hurts like hell. I'm proud of me now. I'm not Tony Hawk but I enjoy every day.
As a new skater at 28 I relate a lot to this, though I lean more towards just cruising and hill bombing as a way of being active. I do have a setup for tricks, which I try in the backyard and can kind of tic tac, but a big worry is hurting my wrists because I work with my hands and kind of need them, so that is a big hindrance unfortunately. But I am determined, I'll just very slowly build up to doing more tricks 😅
@@JustinThomasSkateboarding Yeah, I do skate any day that it isn't raining, but I think the problem is I go cruising and my cruising board is different to the trick board. So I've been thinking of just slapping some cruising wheels on my skateboard to get better used to riding that particular board 🤔 But yeah, I do have and wear all the protective gear, but thanks for the suggestions! Definitely will be keeping at it 😃
I agree with others...get wrist guards. Cheap and they work. I'm over 50. If I break something NOW it might be really bad...I've always worn a helmet and wrist guards and....no one cares. People won't stare...or make fun. It isn't 6th grade. Protect yourself and your confidence will improve too
Loving these videos, Ricky. If you're serious about that comment at the end where you say you'd like to train a beginner from the start, I'd love to offer myself up for that! Over the past few months I've gotten really into skateboarding, but due to the lack of fascilities and appropriate spaces in my town I've not felt able to progress. I'd love to have you as a coach!
I feel like skating around my friend’s neighborhood actually made me feel more confident with riding my board. I just landed my first kickflip a couple days ago I’ve been skating for a couple months now almost a year since I started on November. It wasn’t really my first kickflip since I’ve landed a couple before one I almost fell the other one I landed but got off the board too fast and the last one I landed and almost got off but I stayed on it
callmekevin is one of my favorite creators he is mainly gaming and comedy but he gives 100% and i agree wee gotta get kevin to see this so he will do a part 2
Dude I’m 44 and wish u would teach me. I’m in good shape and healthy. I’ve always wanted to skateboard but just been scared. My boys want to learn and damn it I do too. This is my year
Longboarders: You need to learn how to ride it first. Skater n00b: Thanks, longboarders! What should I do after that? Longboarders: What do you mean? Skater: What should I do after learning to ride? Longboarders: ...Does not compute.
OMG TODAY I ROLED DOWN THIS BANK THAT LOOKED SMALL BUT IT WAS STEEP AND I WAS LIKE “well I can go downhill and I might fall but it won’t hurt THAT bad” NEWSFLASH I FELL ON MY ASS AND IT HURTS VERY BAD DONT RECOMMEND TRYING AFTER ONLY TWO DAYS OF ONLY CRUISING ON A SKATEBOARD
Im 13. Im thinking of asking for a skateboard for christmas cause i wanna try to learn, though i have no experience other than trying to skate 3years ago but i barely did anything and my skateboard was way too small, I didnt know at that time. I have been recently practicing falling on my bed just to prepare myself for the falls ill definitely get. I think id mostly use my skateboard for cruising not much on tricks since id most likely just use the board to get to places, not too far though cause i know one small pebble and id be flying off. Ill still try to learn tricks though cause i think they’d be cool and fun to learn. :)
I'm a beginner and this video really put into perspective how some people can learn fast and how others need time to work on skateboarding. This will hopefully help me understand that I can't be as good as experienced skaters right away.
There's a reason these people feel obligated to document their learning process instead of becoming fully invested tho. Ricky you are a phenomenal coach it would be cool to see a tutor video.
Hey Rikki I hope your recovery is going well - after my surgery and recovery I'm doing a road trip through Cali and I hope we can meet up and skate if it can work out.
I am a 40 year old woman who is wanting to learn and vids like Kevin’s and the last one I find inspiring. I just wanna learn to ride my board and not fall and die. Hashtaggoals
Def get a non skater video going! I haven’t been on a board more that rolling in 5 years and went to the park for my brother’s birthday and was like… I know how to do this stuff… but my body didn’t.
it's so scary watching new skaters riding around on such loose trucks lol. first thing they should learn is what tightening and loosening your trucks actually does so they feel more confident on the board.
I stopped skating when i was like 13 (moved over to aggressive inlines) but bought a skateboard again at 35 and I love it. Also sooo happy i did skate a bit as a kid. Helps me a lot in general life and to have some of that skater balance.
i see these videos but when i got my first board like 4 years ago i ollied my first day. idk if its bc i watched skateboarding my whole life or what but it wasnt THIS hard
Kevin lives in Spain and I'm not sure he is confident enough in his Spanish to ask for help from locals. It would be hilarious to watch him try though.
Trying to Ollie before learning to ride it? I’ve never seen someone try that. The way I’ve always taught girlfriends is to start with the, standing on carpet. Get comfortable without stepping off, or accidentally leaning back in a stall. Once they do that the moving becomes a lot easier. Most people put these two step’s together and gets them injured doing the splits
Honestly, Im not a huge fan of those "I learn a skill in one day" channels, as it feels like they just don't want to put too much effort in actually learning it, but just get the views from the "challenge".
I just made a video where I go skateboarding for the first time as well. Curious to see your thoughts. Hope you make another one of these. Keep up the great content!
When that girl did the splits...I sympathize. I'm 53, female and have ridden skateboards just to roll on flat land since 1975. Every now and then I do something similar to that to this day, but not nearly as exaggerated as she "purposely" did it....and it's horrible. I will say that no one makes fun of me...most skaters are so surprised at my age they are just thrilled to see me roll. Ha. I'm thrilled to roll. Not everyone has to be good....some of us just enjoy doing what WE are capable of within our own physical limits. My whole life attitude is as skater as it gets....if you don't f*&k me, feed me or finance me....your opinion of ME or my skills doesn't matter!!
I'm 40.... Just bought myself a skateboard last night from Braille Skateboarding as my 8 year old got a skateboard for christmas so we'll learn together! Well last time I was on one was 30 years ago.... I can snowboard, so I hope some of the skills are transferable.
it was probably 1990 when i was 9 years old when i saw gleaming the cube on VHS that i begged my mum to buy me one , and i picked it up in a day, just by falling a lot, i could cruise , go down small slopes , tic- tacs kick turn 180s OH and a backside bert slide ! but i gave up at the Ollie , couldnt figure it out ...til i was 33, im still skating at 42.
I remember when I started skating I read somewhere that it should take 2 days to get comfortable with cruising on your skateboard. It's been two weeks and I'm still a little wobbly when riding. Watching these people also struggle has helped me stay motivated!
I was having a sesh on a hill and i let out at 2 meter stand up slide, a kid with a sector 9 twin tip with no grip tape was just chilling in the shade, he was so amazed that you could do that on a board he asked me if i was scared and i patted my head with a helmet on and i told him with this helmet you'll never be scared. He asked me why dont you have elbow pads and i told him your knees and elbows can heal but your head is more important. i feel like i imparted some valuable advice to that kid.
yeah man do a video on how good you can get a newbie in 30 days would set the scene for new skaters for sure.... may help people realize that after 30 days you really cant do that much... but you can still get tones of enjoyment out of it !!!! great video... oh and the last girl will end up a skater i think....
2:13 this is me LOL. gimme sk8teboard, but also, lemme learn some shht online. actually it was after watching a cool little series, learning it for adults and i'm like YUP, ordering one TODAY. finally got stuff in but watching some more vids to get an idea. cleared out my garage last night for a thousand million hours but NOW have a good practicing ground! :D
Ricky eluded to the shop vibe which has to be a barrier for some. I worked at a skate shop a thousand years ago (ancient times, like literally Bones Brigade era), and remember the nervous looks of people walking in to face ‘the shop guys’. But also could see the excitement as they stared at the wall of boards, knowing endless hours were spent in the back pages of Thrasher or Trans World deciding what to buy. Cool channel. Glad I stumbled across. Totally worth a sub.
Good video. wanting to skate again after 45 years not skating. I recently watched the one from Call Me Kevin and he had a fun attitude about it. The last one though- wow, good attitude and perseverance.
I think with many skills, people see others do it effortlessly then they think it's easy. Not just with skateboarding. As a sidenote, I haven't decided yet if I'm gonna start with skateboarding at all, as it looks scary and the skate park is like at the other end of town. And the best I can do is ask my friends if they know anyone who knows how to skate and can help me learn it. And I feel like I won't be able to learn it all alone from the internet. I'm 25 and never did skateboarding, but the thought of me rolling around town lives rent free in my head so much that it would be a massive improvement from just walking to everywhere.
depending on your concept of what "makes" an ollie, I ollied on my first day on the board and also landed a kind-of pop shove it. however, it took me months to have them "on lock" still, and to this day I'm still working on them moving. landing an ollie with 30 days? doable for anyone, even though it will look like sh*t. doing an ollie over a crack on the ground? take some, or many months of practice...
I’ve had a blast skateboarding. I ride longboards and am already comfortable on a board. I got my first “Ollie” today. It was like 1 inch off the ground but I was so proud and I’m enjoying this. Been skating for like a week now.
Skateboarding came pretty naturally to me (not tricks just like tic tacs and stuff) and I try to get out every day but I understan all this like Ollies are really hard but the main thing is BEND YOUR KNEES
i remember when i first learned to ollie it took me 1 day but i was like 11 ish around the time and being hard headed i was out there for like 4-5 hours and for the first 2-3 hours i couldnt even pop and around 4 1/2 hours i got it to pop and a little over the 5 hour mark i landed my first ollie but the falling was not nice and after quitting and coming back now at 16 i can say i regret that but its still really funny and i enjoy a lot more now and im omw to learning how to kick flip
starting a 45yrs old i can confidently say, tictacs and pushing/riding i could easily do the first time I stepped on, but learning to ollie has beat me up twice to the point were i was hurting for over a month, (landed with toes on and heel off straining my accillies) now its like im flinching everytime i go to pop.
I learned to skate somewhat 21 years ago. Riding we had down in half an hour i think a week later we had an ollie and by week 3 we were cracking skulls learning to drop in lean forward and commit (for a 12 year old helmets are not cool) i think starting young falling and fear is less of an issue so you learn it faster. Now im happy if my fat ass can roll down the street on a 47 pintail.
Starting to skate again after 30 years! My fiancé's youngest want to learn to skate so these videos are helping us both. But man I wish I knew a more seasoned skater to help us out.
I think im a natural ☠️. I learned how to ride pretty easily. I learned how to Ollie in 3 days still and moving. And I learned a shovit yesterday. I've only been skating for a week and a half. Looking at these people I feel like a pro
TriBeCa skate park and pier 62. Two advanced skate parks ngl. And she didn’t sprain anything. Pretty big win. I always sprain or bruise something terrible when I hit a park
I started skating yesterday and was a little overconfident because I skated a little when I was younger and yeah I absolutely slammed like 20 times and on the last one I rolled the s#$7 out of my ankle so I gotta wait a day or two but I'm loving it
Tbh my first day of skating I got comfortable in about an hour and I did a shove and a really bad Ollie in about 2 hours and rolled down a bank but that’s just me I am a quick learner
I really love the last video because I started skateboarding around 2 years ago so in like 2021 and I didn't have anyone to teach me how to ride the board or balance I didn't even look up tutorials so yeah I just really love the last video
my lil sis thaught she was ready for the mini ramp and landed on her butt so hard it took her 2 years to try again, just don't go too fast learn how to be comfy just riding it and tic tacs are the best way to learn that, in my opinion
Skate parks are not what the first couple videos were. I figured out how to ride without youtube its not that hard. tricks and skate parks are but can't even figure out how to ride ?
Skating can be really easy if you are determined I learned how to run start and push in a day I am now very good at pushing and I am already learning how to do kick flips
When I started skateboarding I just put my legs in the skateboard and went skeeeee from a ramp and I did it at first try and after I learned how to push
