My favorite part was when Steve was talking about the smells and the atmosphere in the old service station. Similar to my childhood. Dad worked in a service station and went on to owning his own shop. I loved going to work with him on Saturdays. Now he is retired and when I walk into a shop and smell all the oils and tires and everything all the memories come rushing back of some of the best times of my life. Good stuff thanks for sharing Steve.
I like the history in the beginning, I remember when I was a kid playing in my dad's body shop, out back with the old junk cars trying to find cool parts to make something cool out of
My favorite part was watching you guys give this thing a little love and see it become the coolest truck with just a little work! Well done Steve and Merlin and crew!
Love what you’re doin Steve and Merlin…. My friends and I would go on road trips to nowhere back in the seventies…. Many failures and many good times ….. having food and water.. ( beer) was always a challenge…. Break downs would happen … it was great , you remind me of those times . You probably have more resources than we did but you would never complete your journey on time.. we never did… I got fired from a few crappy jobs for a no show no call. Its ok, It was worth it to get the experience…… I’m 62 years old now.. I still rock… my resources are better..I feel like doing it again with my wife… I got a 1964 Dodge 440 , I may grab a couple of super burritos and make it happen. Thanks guys.
Man I wished I had packed up my things after coming home from the military and moved out West to work in shops much like yours. I have so many years of experience and so many different trades and things I can do besides just turning a wrench or just welding. Now I'm 41 and STILL searching for that dream job where I can paid what I'm worth and treated well and respected unlike my current situation.
I like that you used one of your own tailgate from you own collection to get the job done. Truck look sick keep up the videos keeps me watching. We will be out in April look forward to coming to your shop again.
We really enjoyed making Vegas Rat Rods. We are unsure if we will be back on the Discovery Channel so we went to RU-vid. Watch for episode 3 of our Make it Run again series coming up soon. I am glad you found us as well.
Excellent that a Canadian Won that truck! Congratulations young man from the prairies. Maybe QDM. gets to see that truck around., out there! Congratulations 👏 🎊
Nice to see a Fellow Canuck win this truck, love this episode so funny with the “face mask “ , and your impression of your dad and the fob. We used to put wooden matches in our BB guns and fire them at the sidewalk and watch them burn. They hurt like hell if you get one in the back though. Please keep up the great content.
This is the best RU-vid content I have seem in many months, Go Steve Darnell I watch Cleetus, Hoonigans , many more and welderup and vegas rat rods was awsome. Love you guys , hell yeah
So great to find this and see you guys again! Been surviving on re-runs of Sin City Motors for the last few years and was getting really low on on inspiration. Back on fire again! Keep em coming.....and sending them to uk tele boxes Steve.
My favorite part of the video is the truck of course. I had a 64 long bed in high school that I used tin snips and cut my own sunroof and had red interior lights that I wired in to make the cab glow. The BB guns and fishing rods were an awesome touch (though I had a 12 gauge and abu Garcia rods in mine) really brought back memories and made me realize I was in the rat rod scene 25 years ago. I loved making things that were unique that I made to be my own creation. Also loved the Missionary bit. That was me going to seminary for an hour before school to study the Book of Mormon (unfortunately I didn’t retain any of it because of my addiction to work and cars). Steve I love your videos and your creations. I wish I had a thimble of your talent, I have the creative mind for building, but unfortunately my skills need work. Keep the videos coming.
The using the tin snips to cut out the sunroof LOL! I make many of the inside of my builds glow. Sounds like we share a lot when it comes to creating unique things. I too did not retain anything from seminary. Had cars on the brain. If creating keeps you awake at night then you got the talent. Enjoyed your comment. Thanks for watching!
thanks for the memories. i hunted Panguitch for many years. we hunted mount dutton east and showalter canyon. i have been to that gas station many times. even got arrested there once (long story for some beers and cigars someday) but we got out without serving any time. sweet truck and loved the family history.
My favorite year and color, I have the same truck but in a fleetside. It now has a 454 LS6 big block, backed up with a 4L85E. Original T221, 1 tons with 4:10 gears, slots with 35" BFG mud terrain tires.
Nothing like waking up a engine that's been in a slumber for a while with a pedal to the board red line that will make sure the oil gets pumping and everything lossens up nice and quick and make sure there is no rod issues or wrist pin issues LOL!!
Hey Steve it's Russ from PB, it's great to hear that you could keep in touch with your great-great-grandfather and that cool town that he built, and the lemon drops that you were high on swimming in front of the house. The raccoon hats and the BB guns made the whole video great job buddy ready to get it running 283 Chevy.
A sheer pleasure to watch... simply the best guys in this kinda business....can't wait to pay you a visit Steve..when all this covid calms down....and oh,,BTW thanks for my 57 Birthday surprise you sent ..that blew me away ..your a true gent in every sense..take care buddy.. hopefully see you soon.....all the best..Gary..
I love this series, make it run again is awesome. Sometimes I leave poop in the toilet. It is such a magnificent turd, that I have to let the next person admire it in all its glory.
I can't pick one favorite thing so here's two! "If you gotta put locks on your wheels, move from your neighborhood" And I just love how those wheels and tires pop on that truck, looks SO GOOD!
Thanks Jacob, your Grandma thought I should edit that part out. She said she didn't teach me to talk like that! Come by and see me. I'd love to see you.
LOVE IT! Not sure if Discovery Channel canceled his show but in my opinion THEY FUK UP if they did. What he is doing now would be a huge TV hit and hope he keeps this up because he has a lifetime fan and I'm sure millions of others.
Thanks for your comment. Discovery has not renewed with us so Vegas Rat Rods is unknown. I am continuing with RU-vid and hope to bring some of the same entertainment and some education on welding. Thanks for watching. Appreciate your comment!
I love seeing you talk about your past as it shows where you came from and how you got the passion. Also love to see you spend time with your family as they are what pushes you forward and hold you up in rough times
I love everything about this video. Saving a classing and letting it's history live on. Also who would ever thought we would see these two guys in suits. It very well could have been the first time either has wore one.
Thanks that is awesome my shop is going to donate this welder to a young guy that has been helping us around the shop a lot. He wants to learn to weld so thanks again he will really appreciate it. Rock on metal man
When I was a kid in grade school a teacher use to call me and my friend Butch and Sundance because we were both little hellions in school together LOL!
Thx Steve and Merlin! Great show, and nice to see cousin Dave and Travis! You guys look like real good friends, and seem to have a ton of fun together! Love the channel!
So stoked on this make it run episode 2. Best part of the episode is watching how Steve and Merlin play pranks on each other. You can tell y’all are good friends! Thanks guys..
The best part of the video for me is when you and Merlin are in Panguitch UT. My family is from California and we use to hunt up at the lake. Some trips for deer season we would have 20 or so family members there. Good memories of aunts and uncles gone now. But watching your video of your trip brought those memories back. Loved fishing at the Lake. Next time stop in at the Owens brothers store at the lake. A lot of cool stuff inside.
I also have the best memories of Panguitch. Didn't do much fishing on the lake but spent many days on Cedar Mountain with family. Lots of Elk up there now. The fire of 2017 took out the West and North side of the Lake and back to Brian Head. But still a most beautiful place. Always enjoy the Owens store. Thanks for your comment, enjoyed it.
We hunted a lot in the Cedar Breaks and up in the high country. One spot up high we could look one way and see Brace Canyon and you look the other way you would see Zion. Miss seeing the Elk, Antelope and deer. Ill be in Vegas for my Birthday on March 31st and plan on stopping by your shop. I've been to you shop once and have meet you. Thanks again for the memories Steve.
Thanks Ocboy 574. We loved doing Vegas Rat Rods but the Discovery Channel decided not to extend us another year. Hope you will enjoy my RU-vid channel. Thanks for watching!
I think I smiled the complete video. I love SLC & Southern Utah and I Love old Chevy trucks --> Especially a 1966 because that was the year I was born. Great content. Thanks for doing these videos. PS My buddy owned Grandma Tina's restaurant in Panguitch back in the early 2000's and I spent a lot of time down there.
just what i have been looking for on you tube and i finally found you again damn good awesome show you got and love all of your builds and my son does to wish i could get you two together and he welds for a living making minnium wage and he went to trade school for welding and im so proud of him and keep up the awesome work steve you got this
Actually loved the part where the previous owner GLUED the wrong size in the holes... Didn't love they did that but really interesting how the investigation process of cars needs to be done. The poop anecdote was funny too.
We hung out at a full service standard chevron on i90 at Sullivan in Spokane valley. 1971 72 ish , The owners son had a 70 SS 396 Chevelle Cortez silver. I was hooked.
