Can This ABANDONED Old Dodge Drive 800 Miles?!

After sitting in a body shop under a thick layer of overspray for 20+ years, we revived my '64 Dodge 440 and got it running. This thing is packing a 383 Big Block, push button 727, an 8.75 rearend, and enough rust to make any body man quit his job. In this episode, we swap in a fresh transmission, do a few small modifications, and get it "road worthy" to attempt the 800+ mile drive to Bowling Green, KY for Holley Moparty. Can this 60 year old land yacht that hasn't ran in 20+ years make it more than 800 miles? STAY TUNED to find out!

Man, I am a 40 year old hotrodder, but my hotrod usually had a turbocharged 4 cylinder under the hood. I now have a 2013 BMW 128i that I drive as a daily and it's really nice and runs great with low mileage, but I'm DYING to turbocharge it. However, if I come across some extra cash I'd be 120% down with buying a 60s-70s Mopar. I LOVE the big body Polaras and I'd love to get one with a 383 or a 440, but mine would HAVE to have an A833 4 speed manual...or a Tremec 5 speed manual, a Sure Grip, and possibly a set of 3.55 gears with AC.

My uncle has a 72 Vega panel. Solid lifter 327, th350, and a far too wide 9 inch rear. It has 8 inches of custom flairs on the back, air shocks, 10 wide slotted mags , and skinnys up front, true old school street freak.

Basically I grew up in Florida and when I left there to move to Pittsburgh imports were just starting to become popular modern hotrods, and it all changed for me when the first Fast and Furious came out when I was 18. I traded my 302W swapped, supercharged, jacked up with 33x12.50s and chrome bullethole wheels 1994 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer for a bone stock 1992 Acura Integra GS with a full mint condition leather interior and I turbocharged it piece by piece. It went on to make 257 whp at 10 psi on a bone stock 134k mile engine. I put slicks on the front and it ran a 12.4 @ 122 mph on an old Dodge Daytona T3 turbo that was seized when I bought it and I paid $50 for...😂😂😂
@PatandDoopypoopy
@PatandDoopypoopy 9 месяцев назад
The vegs has fats and skinnier. It's vega proper. But missing gear drive. That will be rectified come rainy weather. It's a proper 80s hotrod. Be well, hotrodders. Wheels to the ground -after a proper holeshot of course. Oh and yes has slot mags and wlt bfg's

You should have run a 65 transmission - they are still cable shift (will work with the push buttons) but have a slip yoke so you can run a conventional driveshaft. If you can find a 65 transmission - big block or small block, use the guts from it to rebuild and modify your old 64 with the slip yoke output and tail shaft from your old 64 transmission.

That diod trick was slick. Have a great road trip guys.
@button-puncher
@button-puncher 9 месяцев назад
Diodes are really handy. What Tony didn't mention is how to hook them up. 48:14 There's a band around the diode on one end. You want that end connected to the thing that you want to isolate. So in this case the band end goes to the ignition module, the other end goes to the starter relay/solenoid. A diode's electrical symbol looks like --->|--- sort of like an arrow pointing to a line. The arrow shows the direction of he current. The line is the band. Technically, arrow end is the anode(+), band end is the cathode(-). Also, diodes can get HOT if there's a lot of amps flowing through them all the time. Something to keep in mind and check when you use them.

@button-puncher Thank you for that detailed explanation. I'm not versed in electronics. I would never have known that. My buddy works on electronics & I'm always amazed of what he can fix.

Top 3 favs right now in no particular order ; Vice Grip Garage , some of the Hagerty stuff and Stay Tuned. I say this as I just came in from changing the springs on my Vortec 4.3 over to Beehive springs(heads on car, PITA). Put the new cam in and then tried to put the timing set I bought but the big gear is wrong. I want this cam 4degrees advanced. Think I will degree it with the old timing set and if its close Ill just send back the wrong/adjustable one and hopefully find a double roller in town here.

That fire sleeve, it's good to have it fit loosely. Then you've got an air gap to further insulate from the heat. Ammeters are good but, yeah, you've got to run a meter with an external shunt. @StayTunedTA : Tony, a few things . 1) You should have looked for a 1965' twin cable tranny. The difference is in the tail shaft. In 65', the 727's went to the later models slip joints, just like everyone else used.. 2) 1966 and newer is the real choice for most of us 62-65 guys. Reason being, the twin cables tent to stretch and fail.. You may put the car into PARK and walk away and get passed by your car that you THOUGHT you left in Park!!!!! Also, with the 66' and newer, you can use nearly any aftermarket shifter in the World.. That, of course, means positive shifting and positive PARK!!!! Also lock out and whatever you want to spend the cash on. 3) The difference in the 62-65 tranny/convertors, is the input spline. Going to the later model is DEFFFFFFINETLY the way to go. 4) Check out MAD ELECTRICAL for the best in rewiring an old mopar. These cars going up in flames is REAL. You touched on some of it in this video, but your watchers, I'm sure, need a great lesson on it.. This would be a great HOW TO video for you to do on this car.. It will also help your charging situation and you will have nice, bright headlights as well..... 5) considering this car is cool and it looks like one you will keep, how about doing a video in shortening the rear end??? These cars look BAD ASS with FAT ASS TIRES on the rear and with a bit of wheel well work, (to the frame), you can fit some serious meets under her.... Also, consider joining the 62-65 B body group on FB.... Tone of great info in there....

@SteveP-vm1uc
@SteveP-vm1uc 9 месяцев назад

I bought my 64 polara when I was 15 now I’m 23, I’ve been watching roadkill/hotrod garage since I was 13, so it’s so much fun to watch you deal with the early b body stuff cause I’ve always wanted one of you guys to do so. My car is 64 4dr hardtop with a 383/451 bbm was a push button transmission car swapped to a a833 4spd, gutted the interior. Has the usual cowl and minor floor rot, the left front fender is barely attached but the structure is solid. It is annoying tho anything early b body related is like 30% more than later mopar stuff. It’s extremely fun to watch this series so excited for more episodes

@@StayTunedTA I definitely would love to see a manual swap in the car, the a833 stuff is prohibitively expensive nowadays tho so a good 5spd would be cool. My 833 was a junk core that have like $1500 into just parts cause my labor was free. I do know some guys that are all into the early B body stuff who are local to eastern pa, and a some guys around me on LI. The push button stuff is really cool in a novelty since, best part you can bump start them like a manual it was the advertised feature of them.

Thanks for showing the cable adjustment for the shift linkage. That's something we don't get to see anymore.

Back in the early 90's I was looking at getting a 1978 Ram charger, it had a 440 in it with headers and header mufflers , sounded Awesome, unfortunately it was sold before I could get the money to get it , I think I wanted it because of the white Ram charger in the movie Lone Wolf Maquade .lol I'd still like to get one but I have enough projects, great car Tone y'all are Awesome great videos 👍
