You didn't actually build a tesla valve, you merely restricted the flow using fences, which is a trivially easy thing to do. It is not a real check valve unless flow is faster in one direction than the other. Basically, you did the equivalent capping of a pipe, noticing that there is no backwards flow, & declaring that you check valve works, without checking if the water is flowing in the correct direction. As an experienced maintenance technician, I can confirm that is typical engineering behavior.
In his intial testing with the wide and narrow channel the speed of flow would be the same in both the wide and narrow channel. You only get the speed increase and decrease when flow transitions from a wide to narrow section or vice versa due to the change in pressure. These both have the same pressure initially from the main tank. So they would end up with the same flow velocity.
umm It works backwards too just fyi to check to see if it really works you should now test it built in reverse to make them flow faster rather than slower

You made a valve without even testing it in both directions. So basically you just made a path with obstacles. I highly doubt they would get through it better in the other direction
