Can this Resolve Plugin replace Voice Isolation?

In this video we're looking at a DaVinci Resolve plugin that might be able to replace the built in voice isolation and actually give you better results. It's called Supertone Clear and it's a plugin that removes background noise and reverb from your audio in a super simple way, while still giving you a lot of control over how it works.

I also got the beta version and liked it. I jumped on a trial of the proper version when it was released and tested it against a few other recent similar plugins. Supertone Clear had less artifacts than the other ones and gave the best results, so I bought it. I also have Isotope RX, but sometimes it takes too much work to get the results I want with it. I was surprised how Supertone got the same/similar results with a fraction of the tweaking needed-it took me minutes instead of hours. Also, because it's a plugin, I also use in in my DAWS and other audio software. $30 was a great deal, but $70 or even $100 is still a great deal because it actually works!

Yeah, it really does work well in my experience as well. When I said it might be a bit expensive it was more in the context of people picking it up for stuff where voice isolation would be good enough.

I was a beta tester and bought it for 30. Well worth the money. Even the normal price it’s worth it. It works really well!

Yeah, it's really good. Whether the price is worth it comes down to what someone would use it for imo. But then again, that pretty much goes for any paid plugin. If used often, it definitely pays for itself quickly 😁

I did a little testing with OBS and it seems to work well even in live settings, didnt notice any perceivable increase in delay versus using any of OBS's built in noise removers, or RTX Voice

Pretty cool that this could also be an application for it. Guess that's the good thing about VST plug-ins. Multiple ways to use them for different use cases 😁

@@georgekamenov_ Can't atest to what the resource impact is at this moment though. Task manager doesn't seem to show any increase in CPU usage when the plugin is turned on, but unsure if that's just because I have a 8C/16T processor. If you have any input on how this plugin hits the CPU, then I'm curious

I think testing is not rough for this plugin because resolve's audio isolation also give same results for all those audios

Fair enough. The point was more to showcase the sort of control it gives you compared to the single slider of the Voice Isolation. In general with these types of audio clean up plugins I think most of them can give you similar results. It's just more about which workflow fits best into the type of stuff you work on.

I also was Beta tester, and bought it for 30... I don't use it often but sometimes it really is better. And I DO like the option of the opposite... Removing voices (when it works, sometimes).

Yeah, that's a use case I didn't go over but you can definitely use it to remove voices too. Not a bad call, maybe it's something that I can look at in a video down the line :)

I think one of the big differences I have noticed, and it’s still early days, is that Supertone Clear gives me separate control over reverb, whereas DaVinci’s Voice Isolate doesn’t. That becomes an issue when I have a lot of background noise to get rid of.

Yeah, the split controls are definitely very useful in certain situations

I am not sure this one can, but I only use Voice Isolation when X-Noise (for little noise) or Clarity Vx (for intense noise) fails me. It is rare.

It works well, with one major downfall… Causes a delay of the video compared to the audio. I contacted “support“, no replies. Curious, you didn’t show that.

Do you mean delay when playing back the footage in Resolve or after export? I haven't run into any sync issues after exporting and any delays in audio during playback while I'm editing usually get fixed if I just pause and play again. That's why I didn't show anything like that, just haven't personally run into anything like that.

@@georgekamenov_ Interesting, for me the A/V was out of sync, hearing the audio before the video, approximately 4 to 500 ms. Did lots of testing, this was just with playback and post render. I also tried rendering short clip and had same issue. Even when it was bypassed, it was still out of sync, has to be removed from the track. It really is strange, I honestly was hoping for incite from the devs, someone in Korea 🤷🏻 As long as you don’t need to sync with an image, it’s a brilliant plugin

@@oldman8277 That's really unfortunate that it does that. I used to have a similar issue with one of the Accusonus Era 5 plugins a while back and then one day I just updated Resolve and it fixed itself. Audio plugins can be a pain to troubleshoot 😅

otherwise, there is another solution, don't use the AU preset but the VST preset, there is no delay ! I needed to go the preferences of DaVinci to activate the VST Clear plug in
