Can this tiny drone fly 1Km? Mobula 7 VTX & Range test @ 500Hz That has been my thoughts for the last few weeks and I thought what the hell…. why not try and find out. Watching Nathan Loopz’s video of him flying at the Castle on the hills near his home kinda made me want to see how far I can get with this ELRS Tiny Whoop.
This latest release by Happymodel the Mobula 7 ELRS 1S is pretty amazing. A good 75mm Tiny Whoop it can get a pretty good distance for a tiny lil nugget. I dont usually do long range… hell, Im based in Singapore… an island that is a dot on the world map.. but this time, my curiosity got the better of me. I do also want to know what is the limit of the ELRS receiver and that openVTX range.

Thanks for making this video. Always found the ELRS in the x12 a bit sketchy. I just put in an external ELRS receiver by Happymodel on my x12. The range is much better now. Atleast, i don’t see the numbers go down as quickly.

@@shogunemperor thanks for taking the time to respond :) you’re right it is impressive for an aio board. I didn’t think of it that way to be honest. Still the x12 is my absolute favorite micro quadcopter board, its impressive they can put this much in a Flight Controller :)

Thanks for the Test man ... glad you can get the M7 back. I'm asking to Nathan in facebook about how far he is going and he answered that he went for about 800mtr and looking to your test it sound right. I believe the RX/TX range can be more far if you push the ELRS power more higher however I'm not sure about the VTX with the original Dipole Antenna :D

The moisture man. Them trees! That's a good work out eh? RFMode 7 (500Hz) isn't really great for "LR" but that range is still something not doable with older SPI receiver implementation, afaik.

yeah, thats what I suspected too, shouldve flown on the left side of the creek instead. Yup. I mean I couldve set it to 150hz.. that'd be a norm for LR but i was curious how far 500Hz can go..,. hehehe

Great work! 👍👍 700m is pretty remarkable for 5.8ghz 250mw transmission in Singapore with high humidity and high RF noise floor. In the past, my friend had went out to 5km with 5.8ghz 200mw transmission, but that was flying out of mainland over the sea at 200ft high and with my home-made 14db pepperbox antenna on the sky zone Goggles.

thanks bruddah. Yeah. Though I honestly think it can do better than that.... Wow! Thats pretty impressive man! 5km is no joke!! Sweet!! I think using the correct antennas also play an important role... I was on 2 patch ones just for this.

@@shogunemperor way to go bro! PCB patches are 7dbi in gain, not the best gain possible but they provide descent beam width for FPV and their small form factor is attractive.

Hi mate, good channel and videos, I see you are using Taranis qx7 and ELRS module, witch ELRS module do you use, and did you need to make any modification to your Taranis for it to work proprely? I saw some comments about baud rate or some shit, I also have QX7 and I love it as radio, would not like to switch to new one only for ELRS. Tnx for answers.

I have that same bag! I flew my 85x on 4s 850mah 4.9km with crossfire and tbs pro32 nano 409mw.

Excellent test. I believed that the first of those LQ 7:100 numbers should go down before the second number goes down quickly from completely losing signal and the drone crashes. I still don't understand these numbers very well. :(

And ur right, as long as that number starts dropping, u know ur in trouble! Hahaha in this video, i just wanted to fly till i lose RSSi so i know how far it can go as-is! Hehehhe

First number is the packet rate, 7=500hz 6=250hz, 5=200hz, etc. Those don't change unless you manually select a different packet rate. The second number is the percentage of packets that the Rx is receiving. At a packet rate of 500hz, 100 obviously means you are receiving all 500 packets each second. 99 would be 495 packets. Eventually you drop so many packets that you no longer have smooth control or enough packets in a row get dropped to put the drone into failsafe. Pretty sure Betaflight's default failsafe is 0.1 seconds of inactivity, so at 500 hz you would need to drop 50 packets in a row before you would failsafe.

I was flying it at 500Hz@250mw as mentioned in the video bro. I wanted to see how far that can bring me. If I wanted a long range set up, I would set it with larger packet rates like 250Hz or lesser. Hope that answers ur question?
