It probably leaves a more protective coating on plastic than it does on rubber because the rubber soaks it up and tires are exposed to the sun all day long where underneath a hood, that coating will last a lot longer with it not being exposed to the elements. Plus, it's definitely getting baked into your plastic for sure.

I'm 70 and widowed. My dad and husband used to take care of my cars. I've had to depend on Jiffy Lube and a real Auto Mechanic for the repairs and lubes. But none clean your engine. It is a 2003 so it's 20 years of grime built up. Putting it thru the carwash doesn't clean your engine. While It won't make the dirt disappear it does loosen it. So I followed up by wiping down the surfaces and hoses with paper towels. Then I applied a 2nd coat came back in an hour it's about 68 deg. out today with light breeze. I only used 3/4 of a can total on a Toyota Matrix engine. It looks AMAZING!!! I wore those translucent lightweight gloves and put the dirty paper towels in a plastic bag. It was about 1/3 of a roll of paper towels. I'm happy as a clam I don't expect miracles for a quick fix but this was way beyond my expectations. Thanks for giving me the basics. I didn't catch the part about covering your air filter... I'll jus have to pray it didn't ge into it. Mine has a clip on lid so I think it will be ok. Wish I could include a photograph here.

Rain that's awesome to hear! It gives the engine a pretty nice shine for something you just spray on. Pretty wild how it works. If you want to send a picture, you can send it to our email (trickshiftgarage@gmail.com). Thanks for watching and sharing!

Seems that spraying this stuff on dirt just makes the dirt shiny. Maybe suited to maintaining a generally clean engine. With any chemical compound, you always need to be careful of migration into sensors.
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage 3 месяца назад
I wouldn't worry too much about the sensors. If that was an issue, you would have issues everytime it rained. But you are right about spraying it on a clean engine. It's doesn't really do the cleaning for you, but things are shiny afterwards.

People and car dealers have been using tire foam for years to clean under the hood. You don't even have to leave it overnight. I cover the alternator first then spray everything with tire foam, leave it for a few hours then spray hose everything down, then let everything dry out before starting up the engine. You don't have to worry about the tirefoam being flammable because you will be spraying the excess way during the process.

I've been doing this for years on my cars. I will use a couple of cans of engine degreaser first (on a warm -*not* hot engine bay), then gently wash off with fine mist of regular water out of the hose. Then will use leaf blower to dry everything off. Run it to get all the parts warm. Finally Armorall tire spray foam making sure to get as much as I can. Let it dry and it looks like brand new. I've found that only Armoroll is by far the best product to use. The others just dont make it look as nice. A+++ good idea!! You won't even get your hands dirty either. There will be a telltale smell with AC on, but goes away quickly.

@@johntv5586 Yeah... you can do this on any engine/engine bay. Don't use anything but *armorall spray foam* I usually do *not* endorse Armorall anywhere on a car, but this application, it works the best...and does not leave an 'oily' looking finish. If there is any remaining, use leaf blower. I am sure you will be pleased.

@avflyguy I have been using an engine degreaser followed by water rinsing followed by a Gunk Shine. This video shows skipping those steps and directly applying Tire Foam which eliminates so many steps and products. Additionally eliminates water rinsing too. So my question to you based on your experience - is this a better approach to use the Armor All Tire Foam directly. Thanks for your help.

I love a clean engine, despite the risk (...that the engine might not restart or else damage something expensive... although this has rarely happened to me if I used caution). But using that awful smelling "engine degreaser" from the auto parts is a disgusting chore because the stuff smells SO BAD. I'd swtich to the tire foam in a hot minute if I thought it might work, smells like roses compared to any degreaser, but I'd expect to do some scrubbing (or else you are just armor-alling the engine dirt). A clean engine is just better and not just for looks either. The engine runs a tiny bit cooler and potential problems, like leaks or loose fittings, are easier to find when not covered in filth. And doing maintenance is much nicer too, when you can stick your arm into the depths of the engine compartment and not return with a limb covered in black oily dirt, it makes ordinary chores like oil change or coolant much more pleasant. Also there's less likelihood of crud falling into the engine while doing something else on it. It is very satisfying to open the hood (of my Lexus LS460) and see a clean engine inside - to me its the best car in the world, and I want it to look that way.

Hello MegamanARC! Personally, if I was to use this product on my engine, I would do the following: -Clean engine with soap and water -Rinse it off -Let it dry -Spray Tire Foam on engine and let it sit overnight (to allow the product to coat the plastics and hoses) This video was just a test to see how it performs when you just spray it on. While I was surprised by the results, you will always get a better result agitating the dirt with soap and water first. Thanks for watching! 🤟

This stuff is super flameable when it first comes out as foam but once dissolved its safe, You think leaving the battery connected is safe to use?
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage Год назад
Hello S R! In my opinion, it's completely safe. There is such a short time frame after it leaves the can where it's flammable. It loses its flammability really quick. So, I was not concerned at all about that. But there are always different scenarios for everyone, so I'm not recommending anyone do anything that I do. I don't want to be responsible. This video in particular, was a test to see how it can clean an engine without agitating any dirt or debris. Thanks for watching! 🤟

You can if you want to. I personally think that's overkill. My alternator is located low in my truck, so it's exposed to all sorts of water and debris. I just don't think that's necessary unless you plan on scrubbing every part of your engine down. ATTENTION entrepreneurs in the audience: If I wanted to make my fortune, I'd design and sell disposable cleaning covers just for washing your engine. I'd make them from clear plastic,sized appropriately with a twist tie, made just for covering of the sensitive engine components during a cleaning. I have tried everything from garbage bags to plastic shopping bags to cover up the alt and the starter connections plus the air intake. And they work well enough if I avoid directly spraying the area. BUT none of these methods really do the job of covering the sensitive engine elec adequately so a purpose-designed product would be welcome, at least by me. And I'm certain people would pay for such a product so, where are the "plastic engine cleaning covers" for the alt, starter, and electrical boxes?
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage Год назад
Personally, I think other RU-vidrs and bloggers take cleaning an engine to the extreme. Covering these components isn't necessary if you don't use a pressure washer or a metal brush. Brushes with soft bristles and a regular garden hose will get the job done. Some people believe you can't get the alternator or starter wet, which is nonsense because these parts get wet when it's raining outside.
@robertmaybeth3434
@robertmaybeth3434 Год назад
@@TrickShiftGarage I hate to contradict you but you'd do well to keep any water far away from that alternator if you know what's good for you, If I wanted to own a car with the sensitive electrical parts (like the alt and starter) placed exactly right to ensure that the first puddle I drive through kills the car, I'd just buy a Ford. Nobody does a better job of that then Ford does.
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage Год назад
How do you avoid getting them wet when it's pouring outside?
@robertmaybeth3434
@robertmaybeth3434 Год назад
@@TrickShiftGarage If you bought the right car to begin with, the engineers and designers already worked out this problem so you shouldn't have to give it a single thought to driving in the rain. Personally I just try to avoid puddles deeper than my ankles, and once I quit driving around with the hood open that seems to have done the trick
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage Год назад
The next time you drive in the rain, pop the hood and see how soaked your alternator is. You (and a lot of others) are making this wayyy too big of an issue. The issue isn't whether or not it gets wet. The issue is using high pressure (pressure washer or a hose with the stream setting on) or a brush that's very abrasive. Water alone will not ruin an alternator, starter or battery. These components have all been tested for years. They make sure the wires going to them have been properly insulated and properly grounded. Again, you are thinking too much about this because of other RU-vidrs claiming "You will ruin your engine if you don't cover these up." It's unnecessary if you use common sense.
