When Joe Biden won the US Presidential election, President Donald Trump threatened legal action in some of the battleground states that were among the last to count their ballots. It was all part of a campaign to cast doubt on the legality of mail-in ballots, which disproportionately favored Joe Biden. The lawsuits themselves likely won’t alter the course of the election. But one in Pennsylvania sheds light on how the current US Supreme Court might rule on future election laws.

@No One I don't think it really is impossible though. Centrists exist, as well as people who often vote for different sides. I think simply having justices who aren't backed or helped by a specific party can go a long ways. Obviously no human can ever remain completely impartial, but we can still have humans who aren't going to support people just for the party.

Even if we have to create a system to get out the judges we believe to not be impartial. We already have positions in government where party isn't even shown, so I'm just saying this should be one of those.

I mean it was historically pretty clear. Votes counted on or before election day. The end of election day is the end of voting. Votes determine electoral college votes in most states and circumstances. EC votes determine the president. Of course in 2020 we all live in segregated informational bubbles and many people will selectively argue those points based on how much it benefits blue team or red team.

@N F Absolutely. As of early 11/9/20, Nevada has counted 97% of votes cast, while California is at 89%. It's just a state like California can be called 2 seconds after the polls close.

@N F It is true that networks have declared a winner too soon and been wrong. But, even if that happens, it doesn't change anything. The winner is officially certified by each state's Secretary of State after all votes are counted. And no network makes a declaration until that state's polls are closed. So the vote is in before any declarations are made. And that's the important thing.

Texas for example was still counting right up until this weekend. Not to mention Pennsylvania wasn't allowed to preprocess early and mail votes like they did in states like Florida because republican lawmakers voted against it.

2020 posed tremendous issues. Our election system was drastically changed in order to meet the needs of the pandemic. It has been shown that Mail In Ballots had heavily favored one political party over the other. There has been legitimate concerns of voter fraud due to massive mail in ballot turnout. What amazes me is how in the US political parties control basically everything to do with elections. In Australia for instance, all elections are entirely run by an independent outside organisation (AEC for federal elections) that the government can't mess with. The organisations control things like voting locations, counting votes, drawing electorates, etc.

Because getting a state ID costs a lot of money, making it hard for people with lower incomes who cannot afford it. My state ID cost about $90 (in NY) which is a lot for those who need to spend all their money on essentials. If it weren't for that I'd agree with you that we should need ID to vote, the price needs to be more affordable

They do not ask for ID because so they can commit FRAUD! It is against the law to not have a picture ID, if one can not follow the law then one should note be able to vote.

@@autumnstern9438 I disagree here’s why. Low income people are typically on some type of social government assistance and to get said assistance you need an ID. Ebt, welfare, wic, SSI, housing etc. even if you have a low paying job you had to prove your yourself to work.

This is very helpful information, but I really, really wish it had a title like "How the new Balance of the Supreme Court Could Impact the Election" because if I were to share this on social media the only people who would watch are people who already believe Trump is trying to delegitimize results, and people who need more truthful data will be immediately turned off and defensive about the title. It would be amazing to have this type of concise video addressing the misconception of wide-spread voter fraud developed with the intention of sharing it to people who actually believe it's happening, rather than one more source for those of us already researching based in fact. Sad, but that's where we are.

Because, once you have given your name and signed your name no one can come in behind you and vote for that same name it doesn’t matter whether there’s an ID for it or not
