My right eye is blind but I had strabismus surgery because it would Turn inward. I do Eye exercise every day and my eyes look pretty Aligned.

That is great that the surgery was successful! The exercises are helping with my alignment as well!

At what age can one start vision therapy? My daughter is 2.5. Her pediatrician noticed her esotropia in 1 eye the other day and we see a pediatric ophthalmologist soon. I didn't even noticed her eye doing this b4 ped brought it up! But now I really notice it. Looking back at photos it looks like she has had it since maybe 1.5 years old, slighter back then. It's intermittent

Some people start vision therapy as young as six months, there definitely isn’t as much they can do with super little kids, but you just have to find the right optometrist!

Is there any information you can share regarding hypo/hypertropia.
@strabismustostereopsis7799
@strabismustostereopsis7799 2 года назад
Sure! They are definitely less common and the prognosis definitely is going to depend on similar factors as the types in the video; age at onset, current age and cause. Many times a hyper/hypotropia comes after an attempt to align the eyes with strabismus surgery, other times it is present from birth because of a nerve palsy. In general, it is more complicated, but vision therapy can definitely help, it may just take more time. Definitely schedule an appointment and get an opinion from the pros!

I have extropia in my left eye, eye lacks movement also. Would surgery be a waste of time and resources?
@strabismustostereopsis7799
@strabismustostereopsis7799 2 года назад
No, surgery can help the eyes look more straight either way. But definitely meat with a surgeon to know for sure.

I think that it is a combination that works well for many people. But some don't ever need the surgery.

Would you recommend an ophthalmic plastic surgeon for this?
@strabismustostereopsis7799
@strabismustostereopsis7799 2 года назад
Usually the plastic surgeons are more about reconstruction after trauma. I recommend a pediatric ophthalmologist.

How long have you had your surgery? So far it is still looking straight? Any more double vision?
@strabismustostereopsis7799
@strabismustostereopsis7799 2 года назад
It's almost been 2 years! They are still straight, and getting better with each progress visit due to the vision therapy that I am doing. The double vision is very rare, but still comes up when I'm really tired.

Are you still taking zoom appointments? I’m a teacher. I had the surgery when I was three but it has come back. I was going to get the surgery and take 12 days off. Any suggestions?
@strabismustostereopsis7799
@strabismustostereopsis7799 Год назад
I do still take zoom appointments. You can schedule at strabismussolutions.com/consult/ I think that 12 days should be plenty for recovery. You will still be a little red, but the pain should be gone. I'd have to know more about your case to be able to recommend surgery or vision therapy.

Im struggling finding someone that offers vision therapy let alone that is covered by insurance. Is there a special way to search and find someone? Im not even sure what type of eye doctor offers it.

Go to www.covd.org to find a FCOVD (developmental optometrist that practices vision therapy). Getting insurance to cover it is really challenging. I have an article all about it so you can get an idea. strabismussolutions.com/insurance-and-vt-codes-appeals-and-companies-that-cover/

What if I done surgery, why do they operate on both eyes when only one turns out ?
@strabismustostereopsis7799
@strabismustostereopsis7799 2 года назад
the problem is with both eyes, because it is a yoked system and the eyes move together.

For how long does a child has to do vision therapy for intermittent exotropia? My 3 yr old son has been doing VT for 2 months now but no difference. DP > 40!
@strabismustostereopsis7799
@strabismustostereopsis7799 2 года назад
It really depends on the child. They aren't as motivated so it usually takes longer. Intermittent shouldn't be as hard, but with that large of an angle, surgery might really help.

They go hand in hand. Its like getting braces and not wearing a retainer. Ive had 4 surgeries and im still cross eyed lol. 😂
