Can We Create a World Where Eyes Don’t Age? I discuss the major issues with the eye and aging and the new medical treatments that are changing the way we age. Presbyopia, cataracts macular degeneration New treatment Vuity
I️ was 20/12 distant and 20/10 near when I️ started AOCS in P-cola in 1988. Amazing how far the once mighty eagle-eyed fighter pilot has fallen! Great job with the narration and topic!
Good idea Bobby...you've opened up another pathway for people who like knowing about Life in general. 🤔💡 Now the door is open, good ideas are pouring through, and this should excelerate your own quest for knowledge. Win win! 😎👍
Hi Bobby, this video caught my eye after watching sailing doodles. I'm five surgeries in so far after torn retinas. After 1 1/2 years later still see specialists. Had to find a different job, but still able to ride my sidecar in the summer and watch you and Stephanie in your videos. Thanks for this informative video and all your videos.
Great job Bobby, I’m 64 in a month and the list of videos is endless.😂😂 getting old is not for sissies (can you still say that), but it beats the alternative.
Good job Bobby! Nice format and content. My Grandmother and now my mom are dealing with the M.D. It is something I have made my eye Dr. aware of. How about a show on sunscreens and how they work. Important to sailors and cruisers alike. Also the sea friendly ones. Thanks
Good video, Bobby. As one of your probable multiple optometrist followers, I’d say you did a very good job conveying the information. Most folks take their eyes for granted until something goes wrong. The best prevention for age related macular degeneration is diet! Antioxidants and carotenoids are your friends, and don’t forget to replace red meat with fish!
Please do a series of how to sail, the terminology you use, weather, sails, and basic knowledge of instruments. Your so smart when it come to boating and thats what i want to learn from you. Please do something like that. Thanks Bobby
Good topic, and nice new channel idea. I must say that once I passed 50 years old I started needing reading glasses. It is quite frustrating to not be able to focus on writing etc. without glasses. Also, I know several people that had the lassic (lazer) surgery before some kind of cut-off age to not need glasses in older age.
Hey Bobby, I've been following you about 2 years since my Auto Accident that is keeping me home. I'm still dealing with a TBI (Post concussion syndrome). It would be a great spin off from the eye video and how concussion effects the eyes. Thanks. Happy sailing
Usage does not cause the eyes to worsen. Time, aging, and environmental issues can affect the eye. Some of these affects are genetic. However one shouldn’t be afraid to use their eyes for fear of losing their vision. Vuity for presbyopia can adversely affect night vision. Also, not to lead anyone astray, the FDA has NOT approved stem cell treatments for eye at present.
Good video, Bobby! Nice format - quick! Lots of alpha here, though you should learn that "OJ' is not and never was "healthy". That is, you can drink it - it has good vitamins and maybe a few good minerals, yet WAY to much sugar and WAY to fast absorption (since it is a few liquid organes). I would wager, you can drink an 8 or 16 oz glass and job 3 to 5 miles and no harm, no foul (since you burn the carbs directly). Sugary drinks are bad... yes, OJ is a sugary drink! Vitamin C is great - even in pill form (even if the pill has some sugar (< 3.0g per serving), like a gummy bear). Carbs are the devil they think we know... Yes, carbs are bad and so are the seed rancid oils (cold press, first press is best) ... The official food pyramid is inverted (at best). My eyes were young. Now I am a young heart with an old soul. -- fair winds!
Thanks Bobby for the information on the eye. Unfortunately you didn't cover what I have, I have lost both of my optic nerves. I have peripheral vision, but I don't have focus vision. I can do a lot of stuff but I can't do some of the thing I like to do
Bobby , that was great (very informative), I have had at least a couple of the problems that you mentioned but, I am very grateful to have 20-20 or 20-25 corrected or looking throught the pin holes uncorrected.. Have you heard anything about the CRISPR technnology ? Would love to get rid of excessive 'floaters' without going through yet another vitrectomy?
Hey, cool channel, Bobby. I hope you make a lot more. I'd like to see one on how an albatross is able to cross an ocean without stopping. How does it get nutrients? Does it ever sleep? Thanks!
I only have had glasses since the 5th grade. Had trifocals for about 5 years now. Looking at cataract surgery now. I've always loved oj. People stop to get a soda, I'd get oj. I can't drink as much of It now because I'm diabetes
It's the high energy UV light that helps bugger up the crystalline proteins in your eye lens, making it less flexible and causing it to develop cataracts. That's bad news if, like me you love the mountains, skiing, or spending holidays where it's really sunny. It also means that wearing good sunglasses is a really smart move. By the way, about 5 to 10 years ago I recall reading something about nanotechnology being used to create a replacement lens that could accommodate as well as a natural eye lens. Does anyone know what happened to this research?
There are now implantable lenses for cataract surgery tat are adjustable to fine tune the focal length, but once set they are locked in to a fixed position. There are also multi focal lenses that allow for focusing both for distance and near. At present, however there are no implantable lenses that accommodate.
@@SailingDoodlesPodcast i would love to learn about sailing, your so knowledgeable and i hear you using these terms and the weather and sails. I know nothing about. Im a automotive technician and have gone to school for it and have many certifications. I would really like to learn from you about sailing. Edit: Because i know your a good sailor and a trustworthy source of information.
Bobby really like the sailing stuff but some of the things you say in this video are not exactly correct. I have worked in ophthalmology (Retina) for 36 years. Patient and family members need to here almost everything you said by a ophthalmologist. Again like the video’s and a long time fan!!! But maybe not this one… FYI macular degeneration is not reversible. We can only slow it down to a certain point.
